Thank you for posting such a clear video! It took me several watches but I finished two, and really enjoyed it! Will definitely make more. Also, in case anyone hasn't had to figure this out yet... It's totally possible to turn the basket even if you sew the opening into the wrong side. 🤪 And I only back stitched on the sides..
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. This is exactly what I need to organize my fabrics, and the added bonus to that is, once I make all the baskets, I will have less fabric to organize, hmmm, after all that, I might have to go fabric shopping. Thank You so much for sharing your great instructions, and the very informative work sheet, and Your Talent with all of us.
You are so welcome! I think we are all going to be in the same predicament of needing more fabric after we use up our fabric to organize our fabric…lol. Thanks for watching!
You have to be one of the best online instructors I've watched! Every time I watch a video you've produced I make the project -and they always work perfectly. I am not, however, a member/user of Facebook so cannot access the worksheet. Is there another way to get it from you?
Thank you for your very kind comment. I am always happy to hear that people are making the projects and having success. You can send me a message through my website and I will send you the Worksheet. Thanks for watching. www.rosiesartstudio.com
This is a cool project. My only issue is I do not do Facebook so I am not able to access your patterns or worksheets. Is there any other way to access these?
I just made my first basket, it took a while, but the first ones always do, now that I know how to do it, the next one will be much quicker. I Love these baskets, I'm actually surprised at how much fabric will fit in them. Once again, Thank You for Sharing your Time, and your Talent with all of us. I'm off to make several more baskets 😊
Thanks you so much for sharing this technique with us, and especially for showing us how to make any size we want. I really need to sit down and figure out how to organize all my sewing paraphernalia. These baskets may very well help me. You are pretty awesome for sharing with us!
Love love love. Reminds me of Nancy Z's Sewing with Rectangles and Squares programs and book. This is even simpler. I love fold flats for RV & camping supplies. I can fold them up yet use to carry back and forth and store between uses. And this style allows me to add handles in a variety of options doing so. If it's a shallower basket I can add D rings to the triangles on one side etc. That allows for a detachable handle or shoulder strap. Love simple yet useful projects. For those who need a machine cover for any of their sewing or serger machines not to mention die cutting and heat iron plates etc. You can apply this simple design for them too but lay them over the top as a cover. Add a bit of ribbon or webbing on the bottoms to have a pull off handle to grab off the machines when you are ready to use. So many possible uses. Thank you for such a fantasticly done tutorial. I'm going to send this link to a new sewer friend because she could use a little push to making things without a paper pattern. Thanks again.
Such precision the way you fold, press, and sew. It is a great design and a surprise it folds so flat. Also like that thr outer and lining are like one piece rather than 2 separate and fitting one inside the other. I don't remember seeing you box out the corners. Maybe it was all done with the folding. Remarkable. Thank you. There might be some organization in my future.
I love these baskets! I've already made three and it one gets better and easier. Do you have any tips if i'm using a directional fabric. Thank you so much so your ideas and guidance!!!
I really enjoyed this video. I have made boxes like this in the past-but not as simple a method as this. I really love how you gave the measurements to adapt the box to any size. Really looking forward to giving it a try. Thank you.
Darn it Rosie, I've been looking for this basket for a couple of years. How'd you know? Can't wait to make a gazillion of them! Question: Do you have a picture of one made with the heavy interfacing?
Hi Rosie. I came across your channel from watching April's Craftroom, who makes Quilts. So glad your channel came up. I love these Baskets. Thank you for detailed instructions. I am a new Subscriber. Have a great day! Happy Sewing!🤗
Oh, I can think of so many places where this can be used. Besides the sewing room, I'm thinking dresser drawers to corral socks and other small clothing items that seem to migrate out of their assigned space. It might work well for small embroidery projects but I would want to add a pocket to keep the little scissors and needle packs from sinking to the bottom. These would be such a cheerful addition in the kitchen to hold lightweight goods such as pudding or soup mixes even a biscuit basket for the table. Oh, how about a few small ones for a desk drawer to contain paperclips and tape that always seems to run off to a far corner. So many ideas...I don't think I'll run out of places to use these; good thing I have plenty of fabric bits. 😄
Hi Rosie, what a great pattern and another well-done video! Since this is a new release I wanted to make this comment here so you'd be sure to see it. On the subject of top stitching on a zipper installation on a purse or bag I wanted to thank you for the knowledge to not sew all the way to the edge of the fabric. I made two purses this week and used that method and "wow" it comes out so much better and cleaner (the zipper tabs). I hope I explained that so you know what I'm talking about. You always do such a great job on everything you sew! Thank you!
Hey Rosie, I'm having some trouble with my dimensioning on this pattern. I wanted to make a rather wide and not very high basket but it did not turn out well. My dimensions were 16 deep by 5 high by 12 wide. I know you said to keep the depth and height similar but didnt know the extent of that. What can I do?
Ingenious. A question I have is, can you make a longer, shallower basket? What happens if you want your depth to be larger than its height? Something like a 6 inch depth and a height of 3 inches?
Rosie, You are by far my favorite instructor! A thousand THANKS! Thank you for offering FREE sewing videos/patterns! Thank you for taking the time to explain everything (rather than rushing through, like so many others). Thank you for your precise measuring/marking instructions. Thank you for no annoying music or barking dogs in background. You are THE BEST!!!!!!
First time finding you, i have subscribed. Your tutorial is excellent, so clear with good instructions and shown everything with out rushing. Thank you for this and giving full clear information. I will definitely be looking at your other videos and maybe go to see your Facebook page. Thank you.
I made one of these boxes this morning, following your excellent instruction! I only ran into one issue - on the ends where the seems meet at the top, one side sits a little higher on each end, only about 1/8". Any ideas as to what I did wrong?
i LOVE how perfectly aligned your inner fabric is ... i cannot wait to make several of these to hold my fat quarters. Do you have a tutorial on how to fold yardage? that's my biggest mess in my stash!
I am glad to hear you are going to make the basket. I fold up to one yard for this size basket the same way I fold the fat quarters. You might want to make a bigger basket for fabric that is more than a yard. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your talent. I appreciate such clear instructions. It's definitely easy to follow and I'm going to try some of these with St. Patty Day fabric.
As long as the height is more than half the depth, this should work, right? I want to make some storage for my son's shelves, I'm thinking 12" deep, 8" high, 12" wide. I'm going to use a heavier interfacing so that it's not too floppy, that should probably be able to handle Lego Duplo pieces... I hope!
Personally, I wouldn't use fabric boxes to store sturdy pieces like Lego. I've observed that most people use fabric boxes to store their craft supplies like yarns, ribbons, fabric scraps, tapes, basically things that are not heavy. If you want a basket that's not floppy, how about lining a sturdy basket (from any material you like plastic, bamboo, rattan, metals) with fabric?
Love the idea and look of this basket. Followed the video and worksheet EXACTLY and ended up with a basket the wrong size. I needed 5" high, 5.25" from side to side, and 12" from front to back. I ended up with a basket 6" high, 5.25" from side to side, and 10" from front to back. So I tried it again, using the worksheet formula again, and ended up with matching baskets the same wrong size. l What am I doing wrong? My fabric cuts to start were 16.25" x 18.25". I hope you will respond so I can correct what I'm doing wrong.l
Hello, I really appreciate your instructions and help with making the worksheets like you do. You have made at least one other which I've seen somewhere on your channel. But, It would be nice if there was a link to be able to print out your worksheets and sewing tips (IE: cutting the interfacing smaller because of not wanting any bulk) because I don't have a Facebook account. I appreciate your considering this if you will. Love your channel bunches. TYSM for sharing. 😻😉🥰
Ive been doing fabric bag making to challenge my spacial reasining which is pretty abysmal. This technique will seriously adress my abilities but wow! So challenging but so helpful a demo. Now for my effort....!!!!
Apple Watch your video four times. Then I went to your script and wrote down the formula. Now I want to make it. But my confidence is on a -0. No before I start I’m gonna go to Facebook and find you.
Just found your channel and enjoyed your instructional method, so, of course I subscribed. I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Thank you for sharing. 😊🌹🦋
Thanks for a well-organized and carefully presented tutorial. The worksheet is wonderful! I am making my first fabric container now, with larger dimensions. Thank you for all of your time in developing the tutorial for the fold-up container. Pat
I just finished my basket. Your tutorial was very easy to follow and your attention to details is upmost appreciated. Your method of teaching is amazing. Thank you for sharing
My baskets weren't perfect because of the bulk at the side seam and I probably didn't cut as accurately as you, but they still look great! Thanks for a great tutorial.
Rosie, I really enjoyed your tutorial. I do not have a Facebook account and really do not want one. Do you have any other website where I can download the worksheet? I would be most appreciative. Pat
So I printed out the calculation and you were very clear. My brain didn't follow to double the height. But... It turned out great for another gift for another person. And.. I love the fold flat.
Excellent instructions. Adorable, useful, creative boxes. I, too, can think of many used. They are almost necessary in many locations in my home! I can’t wait to start mixing and matching fabrics. I’ve been told that *that* is my super-power. Happy sewing 🧵!
This is the first of yours that I’ve watched. You are so clear in your instructions it was a joy to watch. Thank you very much. I have subscribed and I will look forward to seeing more of your inspirational content.
Great basket! I can see how you'd get obsessed with the flat fold method. I've had both calculus and geometry, but I'd never be able to come up with this. Thanks for sharing all your hard work!😊
I love this fold up basket - can't wait to make one. I make crossover bags that I often take to gatherings to sell to folks and this basket would be awesome to carry them in. However I'm wondering if there is a way to put handles on it for easy carrying.
