amazing video! :O The second part of it, the light makes the head and the part you're working on, difficult to see, but it is an easy tutorial to follow nevertheless! thank you so much for this!
I have wigs that I built faux hairlines on that have lasted for years. My Sailor Moon wig has been going since around 2014. I cant speak for everyone though. I imagine it largely depends how they are looked after.
Hello! I've seen others use white glue or tacky glue to make hairlines like these. Why do you prefer contact glue? Really curious about your opinion/experience
I actually use both depending on my mood but tacky glue tutorials already exist. If I had to sum it up in one sentence, Pattex transparent glue is quicker but tacky glue is easier to handle for a beginner.
Hi! Halfway through the video you mention the use of pins but if you did use them at all i didnt see or notice, how did you end up using the pins? Was it just for securing the wig to the head in general or was there a part of gluing the wefts that required the use of pins
Hi Rhen. Do you mean when I mention pins in the text screen cut? When you buy packs of wefts they can come pre-sewn onto fabric strips. For the visible part of this fake hairline I used what is known as loose wefts (no fabric strip) but for the centre front to fill out the space just behind the visible hairline I used bound wefts: hair that was already attached to a fabric strip for easy attachment to most cosplay wigs (as show here: www.coscraft.co.uk/5667-thickbox_default/straight-weft-cobalt.jpg). I measured the length of the space and then glued down the bound wefts in rows. I pinned them in place with pearl head pins whilst the glue dried overnight.
In this instance I used a drill. Drills and twills I find are nicely durable and slow to fray. By the time the glue is on they will no longer fray at all.
Can ypu please make a tutorial or diy on how to hairstyle a grimmjow wig cuz every time I search it up on youtube their already styled or the styleing isnt as spot on as yours
this is awesome!! how do you prevent the glue from getting all over the place and sticking to your hands and stuff? i always find that i have that problem when im working with glue and wigs, and its so hard to manage the loose hair because of it :(
Hello! The answer you are looking for is practice. I used to get hair everywhere. With time and practice I have developed finger dexterity with handling wig hair and I've become familiar with the tackiness points of different glues. I wish there were in easy answer but there are somethings in life to which you just have to get stuck in. Get messy for a while and I know you'll get the knack :)
The simple answer is on a wig head. If you want added security you can build a wig box like this : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ovWj9uveF24.html :)
This particular contact glue is transparent which is what makes it great for wig work! Most contact glues have a yellow tint. In theory there's no reason an alternative contact glue couldn't be used but I couldn't tell you for certain without testing
For this particular wig I bought an extra pack of wefts in a matching colour. The base wig and wefts came from coscraft.co.uk. But as an alternatively if you have them available in the right colour you can absolutely use off cuts!
kimkannival I like to use drills, cut on the bias where possible so the fibres have a little more give, as they are sturdy and slow to fray, However I've also used lycra, gabardine, Bengaline, duchess satin, etc. I suppose the criteria for fabric choice are: shouldn't fray too easily (once the hairline is attached the glue will seal the fabric from future fraying), needs to absorb the glue, needs to have some stretch around head curvature, similar in colour to either the wearer's skin tone or the colour of the wig. Xxx
I've never used Elmer's glue. I have however used Hi-tack glue for hairlines. It's a white fabric glue that dries clear and flexible. There are tutorials online by other cosplayers that discuss its use for hairlines.
You can't expect someone who's a cosplayer or into crafts and such to have a tidy room all the time lmao, when I'm working on a cosplay my room is a mess....
