Every year on Purple Day, people around the world try to raise awareness of the condition and raise vital funds. It's a day to talk about epilepsy and people's experiences of it - so we visited one of our care services in Llanelli, where a number of the individuals we support have the condition.
We wanted to find out about how epilepsy impacted the day to day life at the service. How colleagues supported people with their epilepsy and how individuals feel about the condition. We chatted with Pobl colleagues, Eileen and Chelsea, who proved to be just as passionate and knowledgable as we imagined - telling us about two of the individuals they support, Paul and Adrian.
Both Paul and Adrian have complex health issues alongside their epilepsy. Adrian is non-verbal and can have multiple seizures per day. Paul's seizures are less frequent but still impact on his life. Paul was happy to speak with us about his experiences of epilepsy and how it makes him feel. He was also keen to promote further research into the condition as in his words, "something needs to be done" to find better treatment for the condition.
