She's really not any more. Any time she is on tv it comes off as cringey. She seems like she is just into herself. She could be huge but I think she continues to try with a character that is one dimensional. She has zero depth with her BOSS/CEO gimmick. I want to see her try a anti-hero gimmick. All it is, is "see what a big star I am" with zero substance. Switch to a DGAF attitude, lose the valley girl voice and start putting on bangers. She has so much talent it's unbelievable. I think she has the ability to change women's wrestling but I think she is scared to maybe either fail or try something new. She will be generational when she finds her niche.

Rankings are created so TK won't need storyline reasons for his PPV booking. He just makes the rankings up so you can't complain why certain wrestlers get title shots or not. Mariah May is ranked #2 over Willow for no reason other than to allow TK to book Mariah into a match for a ppv

As Brian somewhat said, it is extremely lazy doing Willow vs Mercedes off the jump. Willow has almost no cache and is not seen near the same level as Mercedes, they are both faces, why is there a revenge angle being played? They can salvage this by turning Mercedes heel instantly and having her injure Willow in her TBS title match. Mercedes needs to be wrestling on TV or not on TV at all imo.

Or maybe: have some exciting stories, angles, promos, etc. instead of one heatless "banger" after the other.

Booking smaller venues is the right play, I'd rather have a compact but stacked building than a half-empty arena

So first, it's worth pointing out that 18,000 is the full capacity of the venue itself, not the full capacity for the wrestling shows. Even WWE scales the big arenas to about 10-11 thousand for Raw and Smackdown. But one other thing to consider is that a lot of markets don't have a bunch of different sized arenas and venues for every size event. Sure, in places like Chicago, maybe United Center is too ambitious and Now Arena would have been just fine. But in a place like Quebec City where they just were yesterday, it's either play the big NHL sized arena or play some bingo hall where you actually have to play less than what you can usually fit and massively scale down your production, or you just don't go to that market at all. Plus, the way people talk about AEW's attendance, you would think it's 3,000 people scattered all over the arena with a bunch of empty seats in between, when AEW does a pretty decent job of scaling the venue so that the people fill up the sections that the camera is going to catch, and it ends up looking good for TV. And I think making it look good to 800,000 people watching at home is more important than making it look good for the 3,000 people at the event.

@@Dinobot2Agreed but the issue is that people will post the empty seats to social media and that adds to the perception that it's cold. I expect them to do around 60,000 for Wembley which is a huge attendece but there will still be a massive amount of empty seats.

There are pictures and videos from the pre-pandemic era where they'd have empty sections on the hard cam side and during parts of the CM Punk era, and no one would argue that AEW was "cold" then. AEW could be selling 10K seats to each Dynamite and having 1.5 million viewers. but if that week's Raw did 12,000 tickets and 2 million viewers, AEW will still be "cold" to people.

I think there is a misunderstand from people like Tony Kahn who grew up on tape trading. Those NPJW and AJPW matches from the 90s still had stories in the matches. Beginning middle and ends. So much of what I see sometimes is just moves. I think Bret said the match was the third act of the story. How do you do that with just random throw away matches every week?

It's like a film buff begging you to watch their favourite movie for it's superior action but then you find out they just watch car crash compilations on youtube.

They have a lot of talent. Good talent at that. They had a million eyeballs at one point but Tony just doesn’t really understand not only wrestling booking but writing in general. If only he’d brought in a real booker from the start. I worry now he’s never going to admit his mistake or even if he does, it’ll be too late.

It's never going to be the same since cody left, and then don't get me started with the backstage drama with khan and Punk and just overall issues with talent retainment and overall booking. You said Ospreay and Okada matches are what made people latch on them when its proven statistically that is incorrect. Ospreay lost viewers on his first match as an AEW wrestler. But the last two weeks he gained viewers when he was doing promos. Matches with no build or stories will make many fans turn away no matter how good the guys wrestling are. Talking to the fans and appealing to them is what draws and that has been proven by Ospreay's time in AEW. He drew more by talking than when he was wrestling.
