Yup. As a woman who has been fat her whole life, and now works for an insurance company approving prior authorizations for weight loss meds, it’s a system that doesn’t want us to have these meds or to exist.

something so fun about losing weight accidentally ( “you look so good now !!”) and having everyone rave abt it and then gaining it back and feeling like everyone internally thinks im ugly again

Thank you Josh- I admit to being slightly apprehensive about a video on this topic, but I think you nailed it. I'm a fat woman and it's really difficult. There is so much ableism and fatphobia surrounding fat people and online comments are so demoralizing. People refuse to believe that CICO doesn't work for everyone. So many people have weight problems *because of* their health issues and not the other way around. I have pcos and now type 2 diabetes and I don't talk about my diabetes openly a lot because there's such a stigma surrounding it. So many people think that people cause their diabetes by being fat and eating nothing but candy. I hate the moral judgements on our bodies and health. In my case, my pcos caused my body to gain weight and make it very hard to lose it. My family history of diabetes is what likely caused my insulin resistance and eventual diabetes. I don't have a problem with people who need these drugs to lose weight, though I get why diabetics get upset at med shortages. You're spot on with who the anger should be pointed at though, we have so many systemic issues in the US affecting our health. I hear people talk about how they don't have certain health issues when eating food in Europe vs when they eat food grown in the US. Thank you for putting out good information.

If CICO doesn’t work for you it’s because you’re not tracking your calories properly. Physics applies to everyone, including fat people.

I totally sympathize. I have PCOS, hEDS, and for now hyperparathyroidism. I have trouble losing weight. I’m prone to hurting myself when I workout or just like step down funny. And now I have zero energy. But even when I can workout regularly, since I had kids and got older, the weight just doesn’t come off any more. I did diet once when my kids were really small, but I stopped because I didn’t want to affect their relationship with food. I had lost like 20-30 pounds and then gained it back during the pandemic and like 10-20 lbs extra. I definitely have doctors telling me I just need to lose weight to fix X or Y and it’s so infuriating.

I think you comparing the criticism of ozempic not being real weight loss to anti anxiety or depression meds SO FUNNY because a lot of people do think taking anti depression meds is a weakness 😭 if you were stronger you'd just get over it amirite (I am about to start anti anxiety meds 😭)

It's kind of funny because I'm a type 1 diabetic who gets prescribed wegovy (which as stated in a video is a similar drug that is prescribed for weight loss) to treat my insulin resistance.

IMO there is nothing to be ashamed of wanting to take ozempic. But I don’t think it should be a long term solution. Lose the weight then transition to a whole food diet and exercise to maintain good health. Processed food is the worst thing. Look at the obesity and other metabolic health issues that have been steadily rising since the 70s 80s with introduction of seed oils and processed foods. Best of luck with your weight loss journey!

The number of doctors who have said my chronic pain will resolve if I just “eat less and exercise more”… and I wonder why I have developed disordered eating and am in nutritional therapy

thanks for talking about this in a way that made me change my mind about some stuff regarding this! i still do have thoughts about ozempic being used by people who are in a healthy weight range that want to lose more weight because of toxic online body standards (which also adds to the stigmas and hate revolving the use of ozempic, even though im sure they are in the minority)

Yeah I think it's important to remember that any drug like this will have people "abuse" it but it's hurtful to people who use it to class it entirely as "cheating" or not a real solution. Also, we can't tell as a 3rd party who "needs" it and it's counterproductive to focus on these fringe things

I went on Saxenda in 2022 for 4 months. It's $500 NZD per month here in New Zealand and it was great for short term weight loss. I lost 10kg and for the first time in my life I didn't think about food every waking minute. It was like the brain fog of food was suddenly gone. But I was nauseous all the time, I played around with my dosage (with my Dr) but the nausea remained. Also, super bizarre side affect, I stopped menstruating.... yet managed to conceive. I stopped taking it for this reason as well as the cost.
