I love your personality, you come off as very smart, funny, and knowledgeable. I’m just a regular guy who fell in love with the ancient world as a kid. I regret not studying this in college. I love your channel and your videos.

Tacitus is interesting as there are verses in Germania that continued to apply to Germanic cultures as late as the Viking Age. such as Germanic peoples preferring silver over gold in trade, hunter-gatherer tribes in the far north Scandinavia (perhaps the ancestors of Finns or Sami), the right for women to divorce their husbands, plus various other writers mentioning women warriors which is always interesting

Beautifully done account of Tacitus, Erica! I wonder if it's a Classics-nut thing; but I was about eleven years old when I got into ancient Greek & Roman history too. Never looked back since.

@@MoAnInc been binge watching your vids, love to see your passion, interest and humour in these, some great interviews too Reminded of how much there is despite the huge loss of so much from the classical and ancient world I imagine you'd dream of getting inside an actual ancient library or theatre. As I'm sure many of your subscribers would, which seem to be accumulating currently All the best

Well it's kind of obvious that he only likes vespasian because he is the one in power at the time and it would be suicidal to critizise the emperor. Dead men on the other hand they can't really go after you, can they?

So, exisntential doubt here. Original ancient latin pronunciation was "Takitus"? As a Mexican, that would just make it completely impossible for me to take his work seriously lol

Hi, I make sure to reply to as many comments as I can within a week of them being posted. Your original comment was made six days ago, so I would hope you would understand if it takes me a bit of time to get to every single comment given how many I get under each video. There’s only one of me and 25k of you. That’s fine if you want to unsubscribe, but I think it’s a bit ridiculous to assume I can get to all of my comments immediately after they’ve been left considering I get around forty a day. Regardless, I will be uploading more on Thucydides in the future if you’d like to return at any point.

Itane sentis sermonem Taciti esse iucundum? Mihi quidem difficilis et laboriosus videtur. Sed hac de re dubitari nequit, quin ille fuerit rerum scriptor, quo neminem apud Romanos invenias meliorem.

Troy (2004) doesn't have Greek Gods and Goddesses (You already know that right?) Troy: Fall of a City (2018) does have Greek Gods and Goddesses (only Zeus, Hera, Hermes, Aphrodite, and Athena)

I’ve always been blocked about , the endless bowl of oatmeal, that is ro-man umpire ‘his-tory’ ,and yes, I’m a recovering anglihman. Starting with the mis-representation,of thousands of historical fact, the ro-man, tales of umpire building is much like the russians, in quality and scope. The after the fact historians, failed on too many levels, as they took credit for WAY TOO MUCH, that they had little to do with. Architecturally, they ripped off 100 yrs of history, pretending, along with the geeks, that they championed that form of architecture, when they did not. An even larger part of their population, were beset with syphylis, without any awareness, because only when you’re old, will it show. Add to the fact that Roman Cat-holic Christianity, is the farce of the millenium, as seen by Hebrews, protestants, and well, all other religions, including world class religions. The JURY IS OUT.
