@@gaara4667 hey bro, to be honest, I’m still on warranty, the car is at 21k miles, so it’s really not much to say. They did replace the rear brakes and disks. They also did the park cable clip, super common on F series cars where the plastic clip breaks and the park cables rub when under WOT. Other than that, nothing else, planning on getting a JB4 soon, I still have about 13 months of warranty left

So today I was at auto polishing center to get a wash. The line was extra long today, I waited about 45 mins before the car was rolled into the bay for its hand wash. The whole time I had been idling. Boy was that a mistake. As soon as it went in a loud whistling sound was coming from the car and then massive amounts of white smoke was being released from my exhaust that smelled like gas and oil. Turned the car off immediately. Then turned it back on a couple mins later to move it out the bay and same thing started smoking. Turned it off again popped the hood no smoke from the bay no leaks and everything was sealed. Immediately I thought it was my turbo and could possibly be something catastrophic. But then again no CEl Light and I drive reports system ok. Decided to let it sit for 30 mins. Started again and no smoke idle was fine. Drove it home 25 mins away no misfires drove like nothing ever happened obviously I drove conservatively and put it in the garage. After reading threads and forums I came across this video and hey man, thank you because I can sleep tonight lol. Gonna get this replaced tm.

Positive pressure in the crank case would not push up against a downstroke piston unless you have a one cylinder engine. With multi-cylinder engines, every downstroke is matched by an upstroke for an opposing cylinder, so overall volume (and thus pressure) should not fluctuate over time. Another way of looking at it is that any upstroke piston is helped with the exact same force that is resisting its opposing downstroke piston. It's adding equal weight to both sides of a teeter totter. Positive crankcase pressure (PCV) can cause oil leaks and engine oil sludge though
@kern417
@kern417 9 месяцев назад
Positive Crankcase pressure is always pushing up on the bottom of pistons whether they are going up or down. It creates resistance when pistons are on the downward stroke.
@bobvance-
@bobvance- 8 месяцев назад
That would only be true if the pressure had nowhere to go. In the case of multiple cylinders it has other places to escape.@@kern417

Great video Kevin, as always! Cant get more didatic than this! I have been wasting my thoughts on this subject recently. Debating whether to run a catch can or not. I really like the catch can idea, but dislikes the added maintenance item to keep track of and also I am very concerned about adding a container of likely flamable content on top of a hot turbo area, with extra components such as hoses and fittings that could also be another point of failure. I also dislike that, in most cases, seems like I would have get rid of my engine cover. Last week, during my regular oil change, I wanted to know how my PCV system is doing, so I decided to pull the breather hose out of the valve cover that goes into the air intake, to look for some gunk in there. After 5 min trying to pull that little shit out, I gave up and went straight to the charge pipe xD. Pulled the charge pipe and was impressed by how CLEAN it was, not a single drop of anything, pefectly dry, including the throtle body. I could eat on eat. So that gave me some peace of mind and makes me believe the PCV system is working as it should, even after running on Stage 2+ for almost a year/20 k km on both normal / spirited driving conditions, including a few trackdays in the count. A bit off, may I suggest topic for another video? Oiling capability in our B58 under high G! This is a topic I catch me reading up late at on night on the bed every now and then xD I have a number of logs from my trackdays this year that shows no oil pressure losses, but Im on Michelin PSS, and im pulling like ~1,2G max when cornering on a fairly long sweep. I wanted to go to some proper track tires, but this is something that bugs me a bit, so for the time being, grease my tires will be at the end of the stint

i have a 2018 b48/46 and the pcv appears to just be a hose the runs from the valve cover into the turbo inlet. i always noticed oil in the intake, even when it was stock ( i have a jb4 so the boost is higher now). so i added a catch can. couple questions. do you think running a slightly higher weight oil would cause less blow by? the engine calls for 0w-20 but ive heard of folks running 5w-20/40. also, have you ever used products like CRC turbo and intake cleaner?

Hi Kevin, My car has already 55,000 miles, it is B58 Gen1 and tuned with MHD Stage 1, it does not consume any oil between the change intervals I do 5,000 -6,000 miles... It is my daily driver, I do per month approximately only 1,000 miles and I do not usually push it to the maximum constantly, only sometimes when the highway allows me to do so. This engine does not consume any oil? Or only in some scenarios? Greetings from Spain! 👋🏻😁

@LuizPauloDT
@LuizPauloDT 10 месяцев назад
Oil consumption on the B58 is something that intrigued me a bit. Because my car has never shown any oil consumption (level sensor oils reads MAX level, no excessive soot in the exhaust tips), I decided to experiment. Last weekend I measured how much oil went out. I drained it hot, as per service instructions and let it drip until it was dropping. I managed to get ~6L out of 6,5L I put in. So there has been some slight consumption in between 7k km of normal daily driving, spirited, occasional race and 3 track days. Oil in question is Motul 8100 xcess gen2 5w40. After replacing the oil, I measured on ground level, downhill and uphills … same MAX reading in every occasion. That bugged me so I bought a new oil level sensor which will be replaced in my next oil change, likely end of the year prior to storage for winter time. Either my level sensor is faulty or it is not accurate enough.
@kern417
@kern417 10 месяцев назад
You'll never be able to drain all the oil. There's oil in the galleys of your cylinder head, your turbo, and between all of the components. Even if you remove your oil pan and leave your engine overnight, you'll wake up to a puddle of oil underneath.
