If parents have a problem with someone may be pervy when their kids are in the hot tub, don't let the kids in the hot tub. Kids shouldn't be in the hot tub anyway. Yes, no one should have to worry about that, but don't set your kids up for the possibility.
Great story, Don, and good for that lady! (I guess that camera must have had auto-focus for the creeper to emulate a motor-drive manually?) As for people being concerned about the ship's hot tub with its see-through wall facing the pool deck, you/your kids are knowingly and deliberately walking around in your bathing suit on a fully exposed outer deck in front of the ship's thousands of people, and you're concerned about people looking at you through the hot tub's glass wall? Then why go out to the open deck to swim and lie around for all to see in what you're wearing? 🤔
Motor drives went away with film cameras. The sound a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera makes is the pivoting mirror getting out of the way of the sensor.
NO KIDS and nothing GROSSER than drunk adults inside a pool or hot tub for hours on end - drinking and um - not using the restroom (?) suspicious to me so no hot tub for me. :(
If a person is going to be a pervert they will be it with or without a see-through hot tub. So if you're worried about that sort of going on, then keep your kids or yourself way and go to those that aren't seen-though. And btw... kids do not belong in hot tubs! It is not a swimming pool.
Actually Royal Caribbean has those clear glass hot tubs / pools on many of their newer ships including Odyssey and Ovation. They are inside so many people can see thru/into the glass. However, they’re located in the Solarium so only adults are using them and seeing them.
I was SO hoping the story would end up that way. I told my wife that if I saw someone doing that to her I would take their camera and throw it into the pool! I had no idea that she was actually going to do this but in the ocean! She’s my hero!
Most places have age restrictions on Hot Tubs, not that they are ever enforced. I was at a resort a few years ago where a woman across from me in the hot tub had to rescue an unattended toddler who fell in headfirst. As for the creepy guy's camera, I sat in a pool by mistake with a small camera in my pocket. The camera was ruined, but the pics were recoverable on the SD card.
Hot tubs feel so good but adults should never stay in one more than 15-20 minutes. And anyone with high blood pressure should not stay more than 10 minutes. Kids should not be in a hot tub at all.
If people can't control themselves in public (PDA) areas much more visible than limited to a cruise ship, a glass pool facing inward won't be a deterrent.
Wonderfully hilarious story. I think this worry about the hot tubs is much ado about nothing. If you have such a problem with the glass hot tubs then don't use rhem or allow your kids to. Problem solved.
ROFLMBO... He got what he deserved. Now I am a Travel Advisor with Expedia Cruises and I do professional photography (more on the artistic side) and I would say yes that is creepy. When I take photos of people it's always away from the pool deck and if I take photos of the pool deck, I will ALWAYS use a wide angle shot to get as many people in the shot as possible to show the vast number of people having a good time. If I want to take a photo of someone I ask their permission and show them the photo afterwards. If I do a Candid shot I will walk up to them after I take the shot to show them. I also ask them if they did not like the photo or if they did not want their photo taken, I would ask them if they would like me to delete the photo right in front of them. More times than not they would ask me to send them the photo, and I would do it for free in an email. Or I would ask them if I can post it Online on my Facebook page or Instagram. The Majority of the time people ask me to take their photo. I actually love that especially since I have some social anxiety because of PTSD and it has been the best therapy for me. I mostly do nature, wildlife, and event photography such as Bike rallies (Daytona Bike Week) and Car meet ups. There are ethical standards for photography. What you described here Don, is an example of what not to do even if someone doesn't care that their photo is being taken. Someone is always going to care especially if it is your wife or husband and you take photos like this. He definitely got what he deserved. 😂
The best voyeur bar on Miami Beach is at the Fountan Bleu hotel. The pool has port holes in the side that face the under pool bar. Very frisky swimmers there.
Awesome story of the creep. I bet that it cost him more than just an expensive camera. I love to take photos on a cruise, but before I take a photo involving someone who I don’t know, I will ask them if it’s ok. 99% of the time I will not take a photo unless there are no people in the photo, it’s just a matter of respecting people’s privacy.
What about the parents letting their kids walk around more than half naked in the pool etc… I also thought there was an age restriction for the hot tub?
Easy peasy. If youre that concerned about people looking at your children on a cruise, Don't let your kids splash around in a hot tub people want to relax and enjoy in. Better yet dont bring em on a cruise. I won't miss them honestly.
I agree that children under, let’s say 10 years old, shouldn’t be in the hot tub and all children should be properly supervised. However, properly supervised and behaved children should be allowed to be in all pool/ hot tub areas that are not set aside for “adults only”. If parents/others are worried about “pervy” people in hot tubs, etc, it is important to teach your children to be loud/disruptive, tell their parents, if someone were to touch their legs inappropriately or something while sitting in a pool. Saying kids just shouldn’t be allowed in the hot tubs doesn’t change anything. Those “pervy” people need to be called out when they do something inappropriate. Maybe the “see through” side walls of the new hot tubs will bring attention to and help prevent some of the inappropriate things that can go on unnoticed in traditional hot tubs. Keep your hands to yourselves people and wear appropriate swimsuits.
That’s how the Loft 19 pool is like on the Carnival Celebration. It has a glass wall that looks directly into the Serenity pool area that’s one deck below
I was doing some photography of the sunrise at a beach once. Was about 200m out on a rock platform, at 5:00am, with the camera pointed out to the rocks and sea. Some guy takes the trouble to hike out there and inform me that it was “illegal” to have a camera at a beach, because there might be children present and I could be taking photos of them without consent.
Personally I go in a hot tub to relax, you don’t want kids playing in there as it’s annoying! If parents are that bothered about people perving on their kids in the hot tubs there is a really simple answer. Don’t let your kids in there. X
Standing from a distance with a telephoto lens is creepy enough. But with that being said, if your willing to wear such a suit with everything hanging out your inviting looks from others. Pedophiles are everywhere and there is now way to stop them from being pervy. Keep your kids out of that situation and only good things should happen.
I believe that possibly the image you used is of a pool, not of a hot tub. Some cruise lines have inward facing glass walls on pools. Windstar for instance, has them for their infinity pools.
You get to see all the funniest stuff. You got me with good click bait because when you said he saw the creepiest guy ever on a cruise because I was expecting you to talk about me.
As far as that pool goes well, you're wearing a bathing suit out on the deck anyway so I guess if you don't want to be seen in your bathing suit, DON'T PUT ONE ON AND GO OUT IN PUBLIC! IF IT'S A HOT TUB THE LAW IS NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 16! IF YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT CREEPS CREEPING AROUND YOUR PRETEEN / TEENAGE DAUGHTER MAYBE SHE SHOULDN'T BE SCANTILY CLAD?! (The example of the three young ladies running on the beach is exactly what I mean by scantily clad) Yes I have been on cruises yes I have been to beaches and pools and I have seen some of the things that girls are wearing these days and let's just say, I have seen (not staring because I'm not a pervert) but glances of girls that must be 11 or 12 years old and even like 13 to 15 wearing exactly what was demonstrated in that video example you gave. I think it's time that we start teaching kids in schools and in other gatherings and parents especially need to start teaching these girls exactly what is going to happen with the pictures that are guaranteed to be taken and what could end up happening to them if they happen to be caught by themselves alone! Yeah, that guy is damn lucky I wasn't there because if I had seen that well, he would have had a very bad day! And if that camera scope that you showed is the actual scope that he had he could actually go to the top floor of the resort and zoom in from up there and still not even zoomed all the way in to get the clear shot. (People are creeps and parents need to start teaching their children (daughters) the dangers That lurk around every corner! It's a tough subject but maybe it's time to start showing these girls things like the sound of freedom and any movie that you can come up with that has to do with Jeffrey Epstein. As far as that photographer goes I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have to be their boyfriends It could be somebody who has a sister or a daughter or someone like myself who has little nieces and that would not end well for him! OH MY GOD I WANT TO GIVE THAT WOMAN A HUG! I WANT TO GIVE HER A HUG I WANT TO GIVE HER A HIGH FIVE AND I WANT TO CONGRATULATE HER!!!! (The thing is, we don't know what she did afterwards! I'm pretty sure she's filing papers as soon as they get back home. (If she's smart she will file those papers ASAP and get it done) (I mean I don't know for sure but I'm guessing because it is a party resort that the young ladies were probably about 21 years old However, who knows how many pictures he's taken of those under 18!)
