After proclaiming the death of the SmartTAG, Touch 'n Go revealed that they would be rolling out an RFID tolling system in Malaysia. While this seemed like a huge move forward at the time, the truth is actually a little more complicated.

Mine actually works better than my Smart Tag! I can't even check my balance on the Tag anymore but with the RFID linked to the e walle plus with auto reload I no longer need to worry about not having enough balance.

我装了两年没有用到，今天终于第一次可以用的时候过toll。no tag detect。妈的搞到后面排长龙。ewallet塞了百多块都不会扣。

One more thing during installation is that all tinted cars cannot use in car RFID stickers which is a huge bummer.

Only certain tints with additional materials not supported. Perhaps metallic tints as it interferes with radio waves.

@@alexwnl I asked the installation guy last Friday & he said any tint also cannot, even if it's a very light layer also can't, based on testing on a customer that had exactly that. 🤔

@@Abebil3 that's not true. RFID works under tint unless it blocks radio waves. Maybe just a standard excuse since they only offer headlamp stickers.

I don't see any significant benefit from using RFID compared to SmartTag rn, unless all (major) tolling infrastructures have gateless systems. Step up your game Touch N Go...

Enforcement of standard plates is required. Also ensure all highways and cars are RFID ready. Hopefully within 5 years it can be accomplished.

Well I can see the similarities between SmartTAG and RFID, the main difference is that SmartTAG still requires you to put in your TNG card and you still need to put money into the card whereas RFID does not require a TNG card and instead it’s connected to your TNG eWallet.

There is no different between smart tag and RFID. Smart tag you just buy and use it at any car you want which RFID only limited to a specific car. Besides the battery i dont see any xtra advantage from RFID

I know I’m 3 years late but RFID is connected to your TNG eWallet so it doesn’t require a TNG card. As long as you have money in your TNG eWallet you can pass through the toll.
