I heard from other expats, who were also real estate investors, saying that buying a house in Thailand is generally not a good idea. I believe condos are currently the only type of property you can actually own. There are also weird laws for foreigners who want to buy a single family house with land. One of the worst parts of all this was the returns on your property averaged to be around 3-5% annually. That's terrible considering your returns will likely go to repairs and refurnishing. Properties in Thailand also doesn't appreciate like in the US. It actually tends to depreciate because of how the Thai housing market works. In this case, you're better off investing some of your money into the US S&P 500 index. The returns on this averages around 10% annually and doesn't come with headaches like dealing with tenants, renovations, and refurnishing.

You can definitely tell when people have never traveled. 😅 I lived in Thailand for about 4-1/2 years, and while I was there, I dated a guy from the UK for a little over a year. We had a lot of fun both exploring our own town AND exploring Thailand. While it wasn't my plan at all, I met so many guys (actually, people in general) from all around the world, and that was the greatest joy of living abroad. Also, I never felt safer than when I lived in Thailand. I can definitely understand the desire to stay abroad. ❤
