I’ve lost count of the times I wanted to end my life since I stopped menstruating. I lost myself. The old “me” died. Yet not one GP suggested HR. After watching Davina’s Documentary I am now on HRT. I’ve wasted six years!!! SIX YEARS!!! I’m so furious.

I struggled emotionally and physically for all that time and Iv got my life back , and want to say thank you for the amazing work you do for all women , I am now sharing and talking whenever I can, which I never had the courage to do for so long 😄

I went to my doctor 5 years ago when I was peri menopausal. Told him I was very depressed and had awful anxiety but not once did he even ask me if I was menopausal. Eventually I went to see a menopause specialist but she laughed and told me I was too young and was sent home. Fast forward a year on, I went back to my doctor re the menopause but just got handed antidepressants and referred for an assessment on my mental health because I wasn’t functioning. I had insomnia and terrible menopausal symptoms. Another doctor told me I shouldn’t be put on HRT due to cancer risks and that I wasn’t a suitable candidate so I’ve spent the last 5 years suffering badly and unnecessarily. Yesterday, I called my doctor (changed surgery!) and explained I was having trouble sleeping, having low mood and anxiety..body aches etc..I never expected her to ask me questions on the menopause because no other doctor has but she explained a few things and offered me a trial period of HRT patches. Already after just 1.5 days, I’ve felt like the old me again, no low mood and noticed an improvement in my energy levels which are still low but definitely improved. It will take several weeks for these symptoms to improve but the crazy thing is that my doctor from the previous surgery told me the reason why I’m suffering so much with low mood and low energy is because I’m just “wired that way”….what the floof?!!!!! Thank you Davina Mc Call for raising the issues that for so long has been taboo ❤❤❤ I have now shared your menopause videos etc with others thanks to you!!

You have changed my life. For the last three years I have had aching limbs and muscles, headaches for a lot longer, dry eyes, and complete fatigue. I went to the doctors several times and was diagnosed with low B12, Vit D and Iron which has all been treated with no change. After seeing your channel I was astounded that this was the cause of all my problems. I called to my doctor's this week and they refused because unfortunately I have had 5 pulmonary embolisms over 30 years! As you gave me the knowledge that this is not a reason for me not to be given HRT I will fight this as it is not far on every woman that goes through this. Especially it clearly states on the NHS website that the patches and gel does not cause blood clots. The doctors really are clearly not trained or aware of their own website details. Thank you again for being the shining light for women.

I have lost more than 60 % of my hair, can’t sleep, no sex drive, irregular bleeding, tingling sensations in my legs the list go’s on... I have had private blood tests done but no one out there to answer any questions. Watching your program has answered all my questions about what I have been going through for the last few years. Hi Davina Just want to say a HUGE thank you for helping me to understand HRT. Before seeing your documentary I had taken all manner of alternative natural remedies WHICH did nothing to help. Only been taking since yesterday but HRT does work. I was having around 30 hot flushes during the day and around 15 night sweats. I was a walking zombie (Not a good look). Since last night having put a HRT patch on I haven't had one night sweat and only had one hot flush (where I would have had around 10 by mid morning). THANKYOU again you lovely lady for highlighting HRT (and of course the RISKS which let's be honest are minimal...taking the contraceptive pill has more risks than HRT).

I'm 51 next month, I had about 18 months with no periods, then spotting over 3 days (when there was a supermoon ...yeah, crazy) in January 2020 and nothing since. I haven't slept properly for years, everything aches, I feel aged, I've always been a positive person but my mood is often low now, I struggle to concentrate and get overwhelmed easily which in turn makes be feel worse because I see it as being weak. I had my smear last month and asked the nurse if I was menopausal or peri menopausal. She asked how long it had been since last period and I explained the above. She said I was unlikely to be peri or meno and I'd need to wait another 6 months before I was considered to be anything. From listening to this, I think that is likely incorrect and will be heading over to the menopause doctor website now for some research. Thank you 👍

Was fobbed of by 3 doctors that they don't know what's wrong with me but it's not perimenopause as I'm too young and goodbye. Early menopause runs in my family so I knew what was going on with me. After watching your documentary and doing some research, I asked which GP in my surgery dealt with women's health and have been on HRT patches for 2 weeks. I was dismissed for 2 years. Thank you for getting the word out there, talking about menopause and symptoms and the safety of HRT. The only downside is that I think everyone watched it and now 29 year old women are flocking to the menopause groups thinking their low mood is perimenopause 🤣 But honestly. Thank you to you and Doctor Newson, I doubt I'd of gone and fought for my right to HRT and of known my rights to HRT at my age. Sadly many women including myself, I see it multiple times per day in the menopause group, women aged 46 plus are being told they're too young. Too many women are suffering and dismissed. Hopefully this will start changing.

What has struck me most is the mental health side of the peri menopause/ menopause and I wonder how many women were sent to asylums or put on unnecessary. medication . I have also heard that the Japanese don’t have a word for menopause, the inference being that they breeze through and somehow in the West , we make a fuss or it is our fault due to unhealthy life choices. Perhaps in Japan , women are suffering too. I haven’t had the crippling symptoms but definitely have less energy, motivation and finding it very hard to lose the stone I need to. Now however I am asking my GP for HRT for future proofing. THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊 xxxxxx

I was diagnosed post menopause in March this year, age 42. I'd had symptoms for the last 2 or 3 yrs, but no-one (inc me) connected the dots to it being menopause because of my age. 9 months ago, I asked a male GP if there's any chance it could be menopause - he laughed and said come back in 10yrs and ask me. 3 months later, I went for a pill check and mentioned how awful I'd been feeling. The lovely nurse booked me in with a female GP. Fast forward a few blood tests and a referral to the menopause clinic (which has a massive waiting list). To tide me over, my GP has prescribed 50mg of everol conti patches, which has changed my life for the better. I can't believe how long I put up with feeling so rotten. In my experience, going through early menopause (possible poi/prem meno) seeing a GP who understands and isn't terrified of HRT is what made all the difference ❤

I knew it was the end of periods but I thought it was like a sort of reverse puberty where hormones would be a bit out of whack and then settle in a new place/level. I just never put it together that no ovary action = no hormones! I was totally against HRT and now I excited to have the chat with my doc. So many of the things that have been wrong with me for the last 4-5 years can defo be put down to menopause.

Fab programme on TV. This needs promoting any which way. I'm 70, had oral hrt 20 yrs ago but had to come off due to high BP as recommended by my gp. Since then I've had awful joints- even had a chunk of thumb/ wrist chiseled off to ease the pain. I've had bowel cancer, very low energy, been diagnosed with asthma, and now have the best beard growth going! I'm seriously considering going back to gp for help with this hair growth. Both of my daughters are now older than I was when I had a Hysterectomy and they are starting to suffer. Go girl get it out there!

Good for you Davina . Like many I thought it would be a few hot flushes 🙄. Wish I’d opted for HRT earlier - but I too was a victim of the scaremongering headlines from years ago go . My more enlightened GP said it’s a shame I didn’t asked earlier as I’ve lost out on years of heart protective benefits of HRT .

This is so very helpful. Of all my girlfriends who I am sure have gone through their fair share of peri menopausal and menopausal symptoms, only one told me about her daily struggles with hot flushes, night sweats and heart palpitations. Isn’t it sad that women don’t want to talk about something this important and help each other understand what is going on with their bodies by sharing their own experiences? Thank you both for this insightful discussion which has helped me a great deal. I have put my concerns aside and have decided to try HRT. I simply cannot go through life without sleep. Guess no one can or more like, no one should have to.

Thank you so much Davina & Dr Louise Newson, I'm 49 in about a month and I have had some really bad days, I do love being a woman but this sometimes makes me hate myself. All those symptoms which are difficult to control. I'm actually overseas, I used to live in London (lived there for 20 years & loved it). When I arrived here I was 42 (French Caribbean) I was always sweating and I started looking at menopause on google, and every time I was going to my Dr she used to say "na u're too young" or "u're not used to the hot weather yet" I still had regular periods. Now I definitely know that I am peri menopausal & I have to say it's not nice... I haven't been able to watch your program yet but hopefully I will. But thank you cause I did have some reserved regarding HRT, so I will do more research and speak bro my doctor. I'm sorry this is a long one. Keep doing what you're doing! I keep saying that this subject is way too taboo even within the women community. Thank You X

Davina, amazing documentary 👏 I had a huge fight to get HRT prescribes, rather than anti depressants, it was like going to war ... just to be prescribed HRT. The mood swings, hot flushes, tingling, etc I just wanted to call it a day, but mow on HRT life has changed. I now have my next fight as they want to stop prescribing HRT after 2yrs, I can’t go back to the way I was. Davina thank you for shouting from the roof tops, you’re amazing xxx 💃

Hi Davina, first of all I would like to say THANK YOU FOR a brilliant program about the menopause. I’ve been going through the menopause for almost 10 years and I tried different HRT but it made my symptoms worse so I’ve been doing cold turkey for at least 7 years but I struggle with sleep, sweats, and awful dryness too! Is there anything out there to try and combat this?

This video has been sooooo informative. I had a blood test a few weeks ago to find out what was going on with my hormones, no one told me it was pointless! I was due to have a doctors appointment last week and she postponed to tomorrow, the next day after rescheduling my appointment, I had a "moment" at work, where I just couldn't stop myself from crying, I was mortified it happened at work!! However I work in a small supermarket with about 100 people and I'd say 50% of us are menopausal age, so we have all been talking a bit (and laughing at each other when we are having a flush) But I would say 48% of us are not educated about the menopause (some I don't know about because I don't really talk to them). So this video has inspired me to open up on my Facebook page and get us all educated. Fingers crossed for my appointment tomorrow 🤞

Just watched this, it was very helpful and the informative, thank you. I watched the documentary and thought it was brilliant! I ha e been to the doctors regarding peri menopausal symptoms and discussed HRT with my GP. I was worried because I have a family history of blood clots and breast cancer. You have helped to put my mind at rest, so thank you for that. I have been referred for pelvic scans which were normal. I have also been referred for a gynaecology appointment and I’m not sure exactly why. Still haven’t been prescribed HRT. I understand GP’s have to keep an open mind and be thorough, but it should be easier to get HRT, especially with all the benefits it has, surely!

I wished I'd seen this 10 months ago ! 5 weeks ago today I had full abdominal hysterectomy because I had a larger abdominal mass which I was told could be a sarcoma. I'm 43 &was totally devastated! I had 7 days to prepare for surgery. Thankfully it wasn't cancer, I had a large abdominal fibroid 24cm. But all of a sudden I'm in the menopause with all the symptoms possible & feeling absolutely terrible! I have just started on estradiol patch called evorel 50 & I haven't noticed any difference with my symptoms or how I feel but it's still early days. After watching this I realised that I'd been having symptoms for the year or so & was blaming myself..I thought I'd lost my edge, couldn't bounce back like I use too, just wasn't coping & didn't know why! I work in education (primary school) which is predominantly women & I'm shocked how little knowledge & support there is especially because the majority of my colleagues have or have yet to go through the menopause. I thought I was going off my mind until I watched this. Thank you for raising awareness because not even us women understand the menopause & the impact it has.

Dear Lola you could look into taking herbs vits and minerals and change of diet to help you to balance hormones or natural hormone therapy 'doctor Christiane Northrup' on u tube may have some good advice for you but obviously check with medical professionals that it's safe along side your treatment if you do pursue any of these X hope you have someone to talk with even if it's a counsellor as you need support. Hi. Thank you!!! Genuinely have the last few months been suffering with anxiety which has gradually been getting worse till recently when I have had to have some time off work. I have hair loss. My skin has changed. Mood swings and problems with my periods. Your documentary has given me a bit of light in this as I just couldn’t understand why I feel the way I do but everything seems to be pointing towards the start of menopause possibly. I’m going to be 42 years old and had 10 rounds of IVF to have my son (who is now a toddler). I have no idea whether the IVF has potentially sped up my going into menopause earlier or not but my poor ovaries on the last cycle had given up. I have a dr appointment tomorrow and I am going to be asking to be sent for the basic assessments necessary to see whether I am in the early stages of menopause which will give me answers which will be like a weight lifted as my recent anxiety has hit me for no apparent reason. After all the drugs for IVF all those years HRT is something I would be more than happy to be put forward for by my dr. We shall see. But just wanted to say THANK YOU for being so open on this subject as even for people like me who haven’t even been thinking that I’m near menopause it actually would make sense from everything going on when putting them together I actually possibly have a possible answer. Thank you Davina!! Xxx

Great video, I actually cried during this...Davina you set me off every time you cry 🥲 I’m wondering is there a forum where test results can be interpreted and discussed? I’m 51 had a hysterectomy at age 31 and have been on the lowest dose patch (25mcg) for the past 8 years, I have been really unwell for the pay 6 months (increased migraines, debilitating anxiety, dizziness, nausea, right sided head pain) I feel I may have low testosterone and my patch isn’t enough, I have started putting 2 on so it’s 50mcg. I have the balance app so am logging my symptoms, which confirms my concerns that I’m under medicated! I really need to start feeling well again ASAP, I’ve been off work sick for 5 months because of it all 😢
