He’s definitely that guy everyone wanted to pick first to be on their team lol even Robert O’Neil said he was so happy when they were picking guys from Green Team and the first guy didn’t pick him to be on his squadron so Rob got to pick him to be on his Squadron.
Been shooting for years, but listening to DJ and Mike I feel like I'm a brand new shooter again. Love the knowledge and content gentleman and thank you for your continued service to our country and the community! Respect.
None of this posturing to present and square up plates helps civilians. They need to show civilians how to use cover and get small instead if presenting armor we don't have.
Doesn't get any better watching techniques of spec ops guys who have been in the thick of it. Enjoyed Shawn Ryan's episodes with Mr. Shipley and Mr. Glover. May we never forget the sacrifices both have made for all of us and our great country.
It's hilarious. They present marksmanship fundamentals of skeleton support and natural point of aim as if they were the first ones to land on the moon.
I’m blown away by the similarities in theses techniques and martial arts. Any good martial artist or fighter knows footwork is everything. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised the same is true for shooting and tactics. Great content!
yeah i noticed that from the start of the video when he was explaining the foot placement and stance was very similar to what they teach you in boxing keeping your toes forward etc.
You can see the respect Mike has for DJ. Mike is no joke. But he was just absolutely engaged with DJ and as they always say - Special operations soldiers are always students, they are the best at learning how to learn!
Amazing how this turns out to be the basic proper empty hand fighting form we were trained in, bow stance. Also note how you can easily transition in this stance, about face, by merely pivoting on the balls of your feet. Training this stance repeatedly by properly advancing forward and reverse transitioning left and right 10,000 times or until it no longer requires conscience effort. Excellent video, thanks!
Great stance tip! What’s just as important is the other tip your giving us to not stop learning. If you Mike can learn something about your shooting stance than we all out here in the interweb world can definitely learn as well!! Thanks Mike and DJ!
As a boxer all this posture and footwork talk makes ALOT of sense. Footwork is the key to most everything in boxing and I’ve found it similar with shooting.
I've been teaching this stance for about 5 years but this is a far better explanation than I have come up with. Always good to hear it from the pros that do this every day. The only thing I can add is using natural point of aim by adjusting your toes left or right slightly to center the shot. After a few weeks of practice it will come natural and you wont even realize you're doing it. Great stuff as usual
Yeah apparently dudes from SOF with decades in SEAL Teams and ODAs never learned skeleton support and natural point of aim. About time they caught up on 100+ year old marksmanship fundamentals hahahhahahaa
I've been using this stance ever since GBRS was still the three of them. I've taken a few classes in my area, and a lot of instructors are still old school. They all want me to square up, both feet under shoulders, lean forward, and throw my hands out as if touching the target. I feel so unstable doing this. The second I switch back to the "boxer" stance, I feel so much more stable and have better control.
So I've watched a few different videos on stance and grip tonight before this popped up in my feed, and this is one that felt completely intuitive before going back to the range. It was like every cue from weightlifting or bjj or wrestling clicked while watching. Good stuff.
I’ve been shooting professionally for 30+ years in LEO and thought of myself as a very good shooter. I’m retired now, but I will be incorporating this stance and movement into my training. This totally makes sense but has never been taught before. It was always square up on your target.
The forward stance is something that I remember drilling constantly in martial arts; it's really cool to see this crossover in a way that I was not expecting (but feel like I should've known to do all along). Thanks for the knowledge.
Indicative of the truly elite in any discipline, like combat, dance, art, anything - the best can always admit that they are still learning and are able to kill ego to learn new ways from others who motivate them. Much respect. Some of the most accomplished people I’ve met don’t like being called a “master” because to them “mastery” means they’ve reached the end of the learning path.
Outstanding! I've been teaching these techniques for decades as an AF CATM instructor but you describe it much better and give reasons for the leg positioning that I'd not heard of before. I like how you describe the position as being loaded or ready for movement, to get off the X. So many instructors teach shooting as a static thing, but a gun fight is a very dynamic environment full of movement. I've shared this video on my MEWE group, "Concealed Carry Issues." MEWE is like facebook but for those of us who embrace both the first and second amendments. Thanks for a great video and I salute your service.
Man, I absolutely love this type of content, especially from you Tier 1 guys. While I'm a veteran myself, albeit I was an A-10 Thunderbolt mechanic in the AF, I've always been seriously interested in the art of gunfighting. So, to hear and see these simple little adjustments demonstrated so that us normies can better our shooting, is priceless for me. What a fucking awesome thing to be able to learn this stuff for FREE from absolute professionals of the trade. Thank you boys 🤙🏻
DJ's knowledge is amazing...I have learned valuable techniques with every video. Mike's humble attitude being a man with great knowledge always has a teachable spirit is why he is someone I seek information from. Thanks to all our warriors for providing such information.
Very interesting DJ showing the advantages of a more linear staggered stance and being able to perform better rotational rom. For me it looks very translatable to the starting position of a weighted split squat. Great instructor and another great video 👍🏼🔥
I could listen to Shipley all freakin day. He could be reading the ingredients off a soup can...I'd listen to him. Great presentation gentlemen. Also, great ad for wearing jeans...wearing mine after this video and may wear jeans forever now.
For the know it alls and people who think there’s nothing else they can learn. Mike Glover is former Tomb Guard, Green Beret, CIF, Delta Force Operator, and CIA Contractor. Probably the most impressive and extensive military resume someone can have and he’s here humbly and quietly learning from someone who may or may not be showing him how to improve. Stay humble. You can always learn more.
Fuckin love DJ his testimony his story on Ryan’s show resonated with me. He’s helped make my training in LE better and changed my mind set. I now believe in being the best for myself and to ensure all the ppl i work the streets with go home to their families even if that means I don’t! Thank you DJ!
This is super interesting. It's the standing "base" we always talk about in jiujitsu. Hips low and square, posture upright, weight driving through your feet
That you failed to find good teachers isn't a strike on teachers, it is a strike on you. This information has been out in the civilian sector and competition shooting since the 1990s.
We all find this satisfying and informative cause you know these techniques are proven by Tier 1 operators to work under the stress of combat. I'd trust anything these two tell me when it comes to proper presentation.
Another absolutely steller video. GBRS is ahead of everyone else. Whats scary, is all these top tier groups put out all this insanely good knowledge for everyone to help defend themselves, when all the threats of society have access to it as well. Its unsettling in ways... but we Can't help that unfortunately. Keep the content coming gents 👌🇦🇺
Man defence needs to rehire people like DJ I heard him say it earlier I agree you shoot & often instruct better once you’re out. You definitely get to hit the reset button a bit & reload/re-understand the dynamics of your former trade.
Not really. He's regurgitating mechanics and techniques developed in the 1990s by civilian competition shooters. DJ and these guys didn't discover or invent any of this. Delta, SEALS, whatever.. they were stuck 20 years behind the curve when they discovered civilian competition shooting and suddenly made a huge leap forward. Now these dudes who were taught by their military instructors that learned from civ competition, get out of their bubble and regurgitate the same information as if it's them discovering some never before seen frontier.
It's like in martial arts, how you plant your foot is going to determine what kick you're going to throw next, that ground grip with the foot is going to give you that force to keep going.
This is absolutely a game changer for me honestly! Going to be using this next time I go shooting, put into practice 😎🤙 and does anybody know what jeans DJ is wearing? I would like to know.
Lol, I asked about his jeans in different video once and I got a bunch of shit for it. Was just curious- I like a good pair of jeans! One person responded that they were Wrangler, but I haven't seen Wrangler make them with that extra front pocket like that (I know Viktos makes jeans that look kinda like these).
I’m definitely going to practice this stance while shooting. It makes perfect sense to present the body armor plates and maximizing its ability to save my life. #protip @talksthatheal
this stance is not only for plates. you benefit from this stance in terms of awareness, field of view, comfortable and stable (because its a natural position for your body) and in this position you can move/sprint any time very easily (for cover for example). and in combat, movement is what saves you the most.
Something small to consider... If you break a window, standard house window, the piece can fall away and cut your fingers. Gloves might be good idea to bring along. On a call. Had to make entry, in a situation that escalated quickly, so broke a window on a door. Small shards cut a couple of my fingers.
Are you Don Shipley's son? If so he should be very proud of you , cuz you know your shit. You touch on physiology and kinesiology and people don't pick that up by accident. Thank you for your help, and im sure your service in the Teams.
