Good Evening Everyone!
Sorry I have been MIA lately. These past couple of weeks have been tiring. My daughter had to undergo surgery (nothing too serious) and everything is fine. Afterwards, I caught some sort of cold/flu. Luckily, it's not COVID (tested negative 🙌🏻). Thankfully, today was the first day that I started feeling better. So, obviously, I needed to get out of the house and share a secret that I have...
I have a confession....I absolutely love Aveiro. It is a place that I've been to a few times that just never gets old. When I go there, I love discovering new stores, new side streets, new buildings etc. If someone were to ask me if there was another city I would consider moving to, I would have to say Aveiro is definitely one of them. There is just something so magical about this city that I haven't seen in any other city (yet).
We were waiting to ride on one of the gondolas, but there was a huge wait (over 2+ hours). Unfortunately, we were limited with time so we will need to add that to the to do list for next time.
I highly recommend checking out Aveiro

Hey Josie, great video! Glad you love Aveiro as much as I do! I was born in Canada but my parents are from a city about 5-10mins away from Aveiro, right by the beach. I love going to visit Aveiro when I can. Those gondola-like boats are actually called moliceiros. They were originally used to harvest moliço, a type of algae used as fertilizer. On your next trip to Aveiro when the weather is nice, stop by the beaches Praia da Barra and Praia da Costa Nova. Costa Nova is famous for their colourful striped houses. And Praia da Barra for the Farol da Barra - the tallest lighthouse in Portugal. You can even climb the stairs all the way up to the top of the lighthouse! (not sure if they are still doing this though because of the pandemic) The district of Aveiro has beautiful beaches and other places worth checking out! 🙂

Thanks for showing more of this city. I wondered what there was besides that central canal area. It looks very appealing! Now, I’ll have to check it out on my recon trip.

Hello my husband and I are looking to relocate to Alveiro. Would you be able to tell me whether it gets very noisy living along the canal? And if so are there a few areas away from it you'd recommend that are quiet, but where we could still access the city centre by public transport? I'd greatly appreciate your feedback thank you

Hello would you be able to help me with some info on which neighbourhoods people live in Aveiro? I can't find any videos that talk about this for people who would like to relocate to Aveiro. Much appreciated

Do you come from California… “good find” for expensive real estate.
@Nubianette

I live in California. That €950 apartment would be more like $4,000 in my city. Condos in my building go for $500,000 and up. It’s horrible here because it drives away middle income earners. It’s not sustainable.

@@Nubianette I hear you. The problem with some Californians coming to Portugal is that they apply the same high prices from there to Portuguese real estate prices and call it a “good find”. Truth is many Americans can’t even afford to live in California and leave to other states. Some youtubers seem insensitive to the local people by stating how “cheap” in various situations when it’s not cheap to the locals and other immigrants. I ask myself why they even come to Portugal.

Americans moving to Portugal are getting a lot of attention, but we aren’t even in the middle of the statistics. So there’s an insignificant number of Californians moving to Portugal. Real estate in Portugal is like the “Wild West”, where prices and conditions are all over the place. So many family members may own a property, that it just sits abandoned. People are looking to spend what they did in the US. They can’t. Most of us are retiring, and that’s at a lower income. Moving to another country is expensive. Once we settle, we want to use our extra money fo travel. So, if I were moving today, I’d like to pay €900 per month or less. Yes, cheaper than what I’m paying, but just right as a retired person. On social media, some people talk more affluent than they actually are. It’s fun to compare prices and find that good quality things, less expensive than home. It’s new and exciting. Practical daily life, you wouldn’t hear that over time. Those lower prices is why many of us are able to move to Portugal. The alternative is for some of us, stay in California, and continue working until we die. Especially, a single person in California. this doesn’t sound so affluent, right? So, we’re just excited that we can retire to a beautiful place with beautiful people, and not work until we die. 🎊🥂(that’s Portuguese wine in those glasses). 😉

Caldas da Rainha, Aveiro, Alcobaça (estas 3 cidades portuguesas que me lembro agora) são ambas conhecidas pela arte nova nos seus edifícios, aliás penso que Aveiro tem um museu de Arte Nova

I have watched hours of video taken in portugal and have yet to see any litter, nor has anyone mentioned the lack of it. My question is are there any cities with litter and homeless people? The worst thing I saw was a small amount of graffiti.

I do see littering more in Lisbon, but outside of big cities, I rarely see it. There are workers who help keep the cities clean as well as store owners doing the same. Homelessness isn’t a big thing here. From what locals have told me, the government does provide aid for those in need. I’ve had a few encounters of people coming up and asking for food or money, but not nearly as much as back in the states.
