Jollibee is a hugely popular Filipino fast food place that mainly serves Filipino/American style fast food. The spaghetti is Filipino style which is pretty different from the traditional Italian style. It’s definitely more of an acquired taste, the more you eat it the more enjoyable it is. Most fast food chains in the Philippines offer spaghetti.

The spaghetti is the kind of thing where if you grew up with you, you're going to like it.

I fully understand that most foreigners doesn't like Filipino spaghetti specially if you are Italian because the sauce is made of freshly tomatoes and herbs and nothing else while Filipino like sweet sauce. Me, I can eat either way .

the thing about filipino spaghetti is that it's catered towards us filipinos, and most of our dishes are savory/sweet which is why most of us really enjoy the spaghetti even though others think its weird

Tbf Filipino cuisine are mostly sweet and salty, explaining the sweetness of the spaghetti. Also its not like other ketchup(made from tomatos), filipino ketchup is mostly made of banana so it being banana ketchup. So most brands use this especially jolibee

If anyone is curious why Filipino spaghetti is sweet, it's a combination of two things. First, the Philippines was a major sugar exporter due to the abundance of sugar plantations. This basically explains why a lot of Filipino cuisine has a sweet base and why even imported foods would be fine tuned to be sweeter. Second, the creation of banana ketchup (the base for the Filipino spaghetti) coincided with wartime periods when spices weren't being imported, so a sauce engineered by Maria Orosa made use of the abundance of bananas and sugar to make a multi-purpose sauce. Thus, when Americans brought spaghetti over during colonial occupation, normal ketchup was used as a tomato paste substitute to make bolognese and Filipinos started using banana ketchup since it was assumed ketchup was the base. Jollibee is also popular out here in the Daly City, California aka Little Manila. You gotta dip the spicy Chickenjoy in the gravy sauce. Their mango juice and ube pies are fire too.

I would definitely try homemade Filipino spaghetti. My girlfriend’s family makes it with fresh tomato sauce and chilis also yes one of the ingredients is sweet banana ketchup. Jollibee adds more sugar so theirs is sweeter because it’s fast food. Good Filipino spaghetti should be sweet, garlicky and a little spicy.

As a British Pakistani, I can confirm Jolibee is amazing. I would say it's the best (halal) friend chicken in the UK.

I think the hype around Jollibee is that it's finally getting recognition, because we Filipinos get extremely happy on small things like this one. 😂. There's also a pretty good amount of Filipinos abroad that miss Jollibee because majority of us grew up eating it. The fried chicken is really our pride, the spaghetti is not traditional, but it is what we ate growing up and we really didn't have the chance to eat the traditional one. So yeah, that's pretty much eat. So happy you get to try Jollibee! 😁

The spaghetti is really an acquired taste. I used eat alot of sweet spaghetti compared to savory ones when i was a kid. Because of that, eating the sweet spaghetti just brings back childhood memories.

Filipino style spaghetti is sweet due to the fact that sometime in history we had a tomato shortage and a filipino scientist made a ketchup alternative made from bananas hence the creation of filipino banana ketchup. That condiment is somehow sweet due to the fruit component but flavor wise it reminded us of tomato ketchup without the sourness/tartness of tomatoes. Due to its accessibility, Filipinos started using banana ketchup to make spaghetti which started the sweet style filipino spaghetti that you know of today.

Jollibee is moreso a nostalgia restaurant for anybody who was born in the Philippines, or raised by Filipinos. To outsiders, like me, it's an acquired taste for the Filipino-style spaghetti, but we should just be mindful of the history of where it came from. Just like Korean food during, and post, Korean war.

Sweet spaghetti tastes like something went wrong. It just feels like toddler food. The problem is even "normal" or "italian" (it's not) spaghetti here in the PH is still super sweet. Filipinos be doing diabetes speedruns.

Philippine spagetti is really weird to me with an Italian American background. They use banana ketchup for it, which if you told that to someone in my family, they'd think you were a psychopath. But if you do like it, all the more power to you.

Spicy chicken joy with gravy and adobo rice or garlic ricr is the correct order. Maybe a cheeseburger (the meat is like meatloaf not like a normal burger). Theyre really really good.

I think they use banana ketchup for their spaghettis, which we Filipinos mainly use, that's why it tastes different than the usual tomato sauce base :))

There’s a Jollibee on Dundas, Promenade Mall, Avenue Road and Wilson. Markham Road has a bigger dining area. My favourite thing at Jollibee would have to be the Yum burger with cheese, burger stake with rice, the chicken and the spaghetti.

Jollibee spaghetti is not really a great tbh, but we love it because it's a comfort food for us especially us who grew up eating it as a kid. It's very nostalgic

The spaghetti sauce actually is ketchup. It's banana ketchup which is popular in the Philippines. Japan also is fond of ketchup based pasta sauces. It's probably too sweet for western palates though

The tomato sauce is banana, back in WW2 because of the Japanese the Philippines didn’t have much food supplies like tomato’s but some one (I don’t remember who) invented a way to make spaghetti with bananas, hope this helps

I fully understand why some doesn't like our spaghetti, it is kinda sweet simply because they are specifically for kids. Kids loves jolly spaghetti. I, myself loves it because I grew up eating jollibee and also we make the filipino style spaghetti.

The last time I went to Jollibee was about 1 or 2 years ago, and I tried the chicken burger and it exploded with flavour that I couldn’t handle because I was not familiar with so much flavour instead I always ate some simple burger from McDonald’s or KFC so Jollibee is not a restaurant to go if you aren’t familiar with too much flavour or you just hate it. (I am not saying I hate it I am just not really into big flavours)

Funfact:the maker of jollibee went to USA and found that all of the fastfood there is salty and the filipino like sweet so he came back and made a fastfood that is why the spaghetti is sweet

Ketchup is literally an ingredient in Filipino spaghetti. And the ketchup used for it is usually made out of bananas. It’s apparently due to due to there being a tomato shortage at one point in the Philippines, and someone decided to substitute tomatoes with bananas one day. And now it’s a pretty common household ingredient in the Philippines. Why is there hype? Because there are people who grew up with that dish in the Philippines. That’s the case for most regional dishes. Weird for outsiders, hype for the locals.

Filipinos have that sweet tooth. We love our spaghetti sweet. Actually ive never tried spaghetti that isnt. So if you dont like it, i saw it coming. I think foreigners generally dont like filipino spaghetti.
