Good, honest, review..and I agree. That Krypton Brainiac is the one I have, which is why I didn't buy the subpar Essentials one. It is the best Brainiac by far, but very expensive to own now. You failed to mention the joints become looser as you contort the figure as you use them. I have had this happen on Batman and Aquaman, which also leads into getting them to stand. It is an EXTREME act of patience to get SOME of these figrues to stand. Batman and Aquaman again, being the worse. Not an issue with Deathstroke and Flash. It is weird. Can't wait to watch your Superman review. I am a HUGE Supes fan, and I was bitterly disappointed the most by the Essential figure. No belt loop paint, nor S on the Back? DC, hire a Product QC person for your Chinese factories!!
Give me good paint/sculpt EVERY TIME over articulation...as long as a figure can do an iconic pose etc I’m good...not every figure needs Spider-Man like articulation
Loved hearing your thoughts on the new DC Essentials and I completely agree. I only have the Batman and Flash, ended up cancelling my Superman preorder. I am currently on the look for the DC Direct Last Son Superman for my Justice League shelf.
I'm done with Essentials already. The ankles are awful, I can't get my Superman or Brainiac to stand due to loose joints, almost no sculpted details, poor paint, and QC issues with almost all of my Essentials. I'm so disappointed. I feel like this line is doomed to be cancelled even faster than the Icons were. I really liked those Icons figures. I wish they could just bring that line back.
Thanks for another enjoyable review, Brad. I've collected every figure released in this line so far (including the two Doomsday Clock figures) sight unseen from several online shops and have been fortunate not to have too many issues with the ones I've received, with the exception of sloppily painted eyebrows on an Aquaman figure that I replaced with a second, much better looking one. Minor paint slop here and there, but nothing major. I find the sculpting, articulation, and color schemes for each figure to be quite amazing, especially in-hand. The only other DC Collectibles I've picked up so far are the Bombshell figures, which I think are comparable in quality to the Essentials line, meaning just some slight issues for me depending on the figure. I have seen quite a few collectors out there who are disappointed in the DC Essentials line to this point, but I really do enjoy collecting these figures and hope that with improved QC and with DC Collectibles honestly listening to collector feedback, the line will go on to produce a solid, wide range of characters beyond the current standard buck with different shapes and sizes (larger Darkseid, smaller Robin, etc) for quite a long time.
Great and honest review Brad. I have Batman and Reverse Flash and pre ordered Shazam/Black Adam two pack and Batgirl/ Night wing. The rest I'm undecided on. I like the Superman but wanted the no trunks version and the rest like Black Manta I think the multi verse movie version looks better. I have the Brainiac that you showed so I don't want the essentials one because it doesn't compare. Keep up great the reviews Brad!
Great review. I ended up canceling my pre-order for this wave. I was already frustrated with the line. I got a Batman with a very loose hand in the first wave. I was then at my LCS where they had a Black Manta marked with a loose hand. Someone must have returned it. Then there's the paint issues and the same body for everyone so far. Tough run for DC Collectibles with the cancellation of all those Icons (which I really liked) and now this. Mattel looks a lot more exciting right now.
One thing that turns me off to the line is every character looks identical in the face department. Looks like Supes cosplaying as brainiac to me lol...
Whoever is in charge of the animated line needs to oversee Essentials...the animated figures have perfect paint...i own all of them and not one is messed up
Great unboxing video man. . . . sucks that they canceled icons for these basic figures. No accessories no new sculpt and still over priced. I hope one day the dc characters get good figures that don't require their customers to make them better.
I liked the death stroke figure I got from wave 1. These figures don't look as good but I'm mainly buying these figures just to get character representation on my shelf
Just to let new people know that a new 'Let's Open" format is here to stay now but I also do more in-depth action figure review where you aren't stuck looking at my ugly mug.
Brad The DC Universe Geek that’s with a lot of companies. Even hot toys and sideshow has QC problems and it’s more so now than 5-6 yrs ago. These companies just stopped worrying about it and just want to meet deadlines to maximize profits b
I've had all of the heroes on pre-order forever, and will have Batman, Superman and Flash on the way soon (sitting in my BBTS Pile of Loot). The paint apps have been obviously bad from your vids (doesn't surprise me about the Superman trunks, I saw that in your review) but that doesn't bother me too much as I'm getting into painting. That said it's getting a little depressing that we're going to see the same buck on every single figure. I don't mind everyone conforming to the 'superheroic bod' but some new sculpts here and there would give them a bit more personality. Do they even see this as a long-term line? For me I'm just hoping to have a core JLA and that'll be it. (Sorry 'bout the insomnia, too. My Dad suffers and it's kinda hellish.)
Stephen Reid I took melatonin last night and it put me to sleep so that’s a plus! I think that DC Collectibles might just be looking at getting a few years out of this line judging by Jason Fabok’s video. I hope that they make a teen buck too for characters like Superboy and Robin. That way thee can be more diversity in the line.
I added you on IG. I have about 300 action figures and at this point I decided to buy only what’s needed for the collection. I was thinking about this Brainiac, but it’s a little bit too big to fit with my DC Universe Classics and DC Multiverse.
A. S. Vieira Thanks for the Instagram follow 👍🙂 As far as Brainiac you may want to try the New Krypton version by DCD. He’s bulky and slightly taller than a DCUC but that’s OK because Gary Frank drew him larger. It’s actually the one in my Superman display.
Me encanta tu canal soy coleccionista de Dc Universe y Fan Number one of Superman pero es en serio..? Como compras tantos juguetes..? Tantas figuras...? A que te dedicas y cuánto ganas bro.... $$$$...? O my Lord!
I agree absolutely but every DC Essentials figure I reviewed from this series on my channel was special ordered in for to my small local comic/gaming store me and not purchased online. You’re right that it is one of the dangers of purchasing online. Being unable to inspect your merchandise. As a reviewer I buy it flaws and all so that I can try and give the viewer an honest and average look at the merchandise rather than just getting it sent to me from the company so they can give me a flawless one. Then the viewer wouldn’t see a closer look at what they are more likely to receive. You are right though.
Man Brad...this was a hard watch... only because I can feel your disappointed. Makes me glad I'm making vids right now on DCUC... and I'm barely on my wave 1... Hope DC does a better job at QC....all the best!!!👍✊💀
Hi Brad, personally i prefer your normal format to show the figures, i don´t care the way that Shartimus and others do. Talking about the DC Collectibles action figure quality is normal that you are disappointed with the paint application. I must say that i have the first wave and i don´t see bad paintings in any of them, i´m still don´t have the second wave because i´m from Europe and the figures arrive a bit later than yours, maybe it´s the point , i think the first shipment figures are made it so quickly than the paint aplications are wrong, i don´t know , it´s just a theory, when arrives to me the second wave i´ll tell you.
oscar nolla salvador Thanks. I’m trying to break my review format in to three distinct formats. Let’s Review, simple hands, camera and product with less cuts and finesse, and also the one I’ve been doing the most lately which takes a long time to put together. This way there will be something for everyone and it keeps it a little diverse in presentation style.
I wanted the reborn Superman from this line and i tell you the truth i was so hurt that he was not coming out. But braniac is so messed up i'm don't know about this line. I love them all but the have to be done way better.
