"Let The Children March", was written by Monica Clark-Robinson and illustrated by Frank Morrison, and originally published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
It tells the story of the Children's Crusade in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963 from the perspective of a little girl who marched in the protests. The Black children of the city marched every day for almost a week to protest the racial segregation in their home, and although they marched peacefully they were met with violence by the Birmingham police. National TV and news crews brought images of this march into homes all over the country, and the local energy and national attention forced the local white leaders to agree to desegregate the city. This was announced on May 10th, 1963.
