how could anyone hate this? it means they get to spend forever with each other. i think it's perfect. thank you for making this vid.

The older couple were going to seek them out in Barcelona to ask for the infection, because they were in love but one of them was fatally ill. The woman may have chased Oskar and Eli for years as an unsolved case but she seemed ready to let that go, hence the phrase "Let the old dreams die, we're dreaming new ones." I thought that if they found the younger pair then they could act as new guardians and form a kind of surrogate family. And to those saying that Hakan met Eli when he was a child, that simply did not happen. In the book it is described in detail how Eli recruited him as an adult and what led up to it.

I just read the sequel and I think it's only right that Oskar pledges eternity to Eli. It's the supreme sacrifice for love...he gives her his soul.

For anybody who's interested in just reading about the Oskar/Eli continuation, read the self titled chapter "Let the Old Dreams Die". That's to help pinpoint it for yuns :)

Let the old dreams die...They don't exactly chase the couple, its more poignant than that. Stefan was dying, they wanted more than just to catch Eli and Oskar.

This is good news.They were truly in love and honestly i was concerned for their safety and well being.

Man this is one the most beautiful works of fiction I've seen... It's so emotional and lovely. I only wish the author would tells us more what they are doing now. 10/10 movie / soundtrack and book.

I will never get tired of this movie,seen it probably 10 times. Unbelievably beautifully filmed movie and the music is fantastic, one of the best movies ever done.

I like it. My original interpretation of this ending was that Oskar would become Eli's human familar...growing old and eventually dying. But at the time I guess I forgot that Eli could turn Oskar. That's a much nicer way to imagine how it went.

John posted recently on a let-the-right-one-in-forum that he has new ideas and plans to write a full novel (sequel) to LtROI and explain about Oskar and Eli in the present days. THERE IS HOPE!

Wow just finding this out after nearly 10 years of thinking Oskar would eventually become another Hakan. Just so happy!

big fan of the series but the sequel needed to me. i think the book does it justice and the ending of the movie reinforces the beauty of the story.

I personally think that Eli deserved to be with Oskar. She had been through so much that it was only fitting that she find someone. Hope one day soon there will be a sequel to both the movie and novel. (Only to the original version that is...not the US remake)

Just read LTODD last night, and wow. What a follow up, from such a different and unexpected angle. I sat up for an hour after thinking about it, and have thought about the story for the better part of today as well. So beautiful, so haunting. ***SPOILERS BELOW*** If JAL were ever to continue this story, a fanfic I had would be a series of killings being investigated by a Spanish policewoman. She tracks the killings to Stefan who is now a vampire. Karin was killed somehow years ago (accidental exposure to sunlight or something) and Stefan is slowly losing his humanity, but more murderous and brutal, regretful he didn’t let like just take its course and doomed himself now to an eternity without his love. He can’t bring himself to kill the policewoman because she reminds him of Karin, and a grown-up Oskar-Eli romance blooms between them. Meanwhile, Oskar and Eli are searching for Stefan as well with plans to destroy him, because his killings have become brutal and sloppy and are threatening to expose vampires to the world and upend the quiet careful life they have spent three decades building. That’s what I’ve got so far... anyway, LTODD was amazing!

I know this is very late but I just finish reading the whole book of LTROI and it's sequel, from my own interpretation Eli really turned Oskar into a vampire because she?...really did cared for him greatly than Hakan , read the book it's so much easy to understand their relationship than the movie, even an 11 years old like me can understand it

thank you so much for posting this. i didn't even know there was a sort of sequel to the story written.I remember a lot of people questioned whether or not eli really loved oskar,or if he was just going to be her new daytime guard. but if she turned him to be like her,than it was true love.

Having Karin and Stefan track down Eli and Oscar to Barcelona sounds like a pretty solid basis for a sequel. Make it happen!!

Best vampire story ever. Almost better than Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice.

If there was one thing I didn't like about the film, it was the fact that they played down Eli's affection for Oskar and implied that she was just using him the whole time. The real horror in the original book isn't the vampire. It's the humanity. The society they lived in took away Oskar and Eli's childhood (and in Eli's case, their gender), abused them and turned them into monsters. Oskar through his bullies and Eli through the great "vampire". That's why it's so powerful when they connect with each other. For the first time, they're allowed to behave like children again. That's what it was about in the end. It wasn't about Oskar becoming Eli's new helper because the vampire in a way doesn't exist. It was about two children turning their backs on a society that has let them down. And the film adaptations have taken that and turned their relationship into something it wasn't.

If I'm not mistaken "Let the Old Dreams Die" is just an epilogue that only takes up a few pages, like five if I remember right. I'm pretty sure the rest of the book contains other short stories including one that follows up on the families in "Handling the Undead." I'm thoroughly excited for this book!

"Chased by Stefan and Karin" is a bit inaccurate. They might also be JOINED by Stefan and Karin, but that, of course, depends on Eli &Oskar.

From my reading, I assumed--though it's never stated-- that Karin and Stefan are going to try to get Eli and Oskar to turn them into vampires, as Stefan is dying of cancer and Karin is getting quite old and has had heart trouble.

Watched the monie let me in on Netflix and loved it. Then watched the original movie loved it even more. Then read the book and loved it the best. Then I got let the old dreams die. Loved the closure, but hated that it was all from another groups perspective and that it was only a short story. Didn't bother with the rest of the book.

But why Eli didn't transform to a vampire her last partner?

Its been a while since I saw this movie but what I remember from it is Eli's been through several helpers to support him/her need to feed off of human blood. That old man was not its father, it was it lover. I think Eli just wanted a replacement because he can't go around killing people on the streets it would be too obvious. Needs someone to not make it look bait.

I saw the film in 2009. I believed that Oskar would become what Håkan had been, a human helper who would age over time. Several elements led us to believe that Håkan had met Eli as a child and remained with her for 40 years or more. Years later, reading the book, I discovered that Håkan was a pedophile teacher, paid by Eli for his help. As a reward for her last mission she would let him touch her. In the literary sequel it turns out that Oskar was transformed into a vampire already in 1981 and that in 2008 the two are together

the Epilogue itself is only around 30 pages...but their are other stories making up the book ..the Epilogue is good though...very good :)

If Oskar is a vampire how does he get to ride on the train? Shouldn't he be in the coffin like Eli?

I haven't read the book but I read that its a lot darker then the films. I heard that Eli was manipulative and although she acted like a child she had an adult mind and used her caretakers. But it would seem that if they were both vampires they must have decided to stay the same age together.

Ok, I can rest at ease and not spend 23$ just to not read about Osker and Eli. Although, I am a little confused as to why Osker isn't choose to age till 17; his body would be stronger.
