Toyota should've given their truck engines D4-S injection. Those engines are brilliantly bulletproof and this small addition could've made them future proof for years to come. Extra power and efficiency at the same time while being way less complex than the 3.4L and 2.4L. That electronic waste gate is so damn unnecessary. Toyota even changed their mind on the 2.4L and gave it a mechanical waste gate. Just update the engines to what the 3.5L in the cars and the Tacoma had. 300 hp in the Camry and Highlander, not too shabby, and with the extra displacement they won't feel weak in truck applications. The 2GR went from 2GR-FE, to 2GR-FSE to 2GR-FKS. 4.0L 1GR-FE -> 4.0L 1GR-FKS 4.6L 1UR-FE -> 4.6L 1UR-FKS 5.7L 3UR-FE -> 5.7L 3UR-FKS
Great review, the F bomb was cracking me up. This ride will definitely go down as a legend. Got mine for the price of a 4Runner with comparable miles…feels like quite a bargain to me. Those who complain about cost of gas simply can’t afford it, truth hurts. 😢
The third row in the GX 460 folds flat into the floor (I’m not sure about the GX 470), so it’s almost like a third row delete because once it folds down into the floor, it’s pretty much a two row SUV with a lot of cargo space. That’s how we use our GX 460 90% of the time with the third row folded flat, but it’s great that the GX 460 does offer a third row because when we have need to have more people in our GX 460, the third row comes in handy. That’s one of my concerns with the GX 550 Overtrail where you can’t get all the off road features and a third row, but you can with the GX 460.
All the luxury off-roaders have spare tires on the back. The new Defender has a spare tire on the back and a side opening door. It's what every off-roader should have, that or a split tailgate. There's a version of the Prado with the spare tire on the back that gets a 39 gallon tank because of the freed up space underneath. The GX should've had that too.
Get a 4Runner if you want a stupid bro dozer with your spare tire on the back to make it look like you’re tuff. Tucked under the bottom keeps it classy since it is a luxury vehicle. Can valet at Nobu without looking like a clown.
Another RU-vid video on the new Lexus 550 by a Lexus maintenance person indicates potential future mechanical problems for this V6 Twin Turbo engine as so implemented in the GX 550 model as opposed to its use in other Toyota platforms. Never buy the first year of any model vehicle- you will be the experiment from which the engineers and designers will be learning from.
Too bad Lexus killed off the V8. I prefer that to the turbo V6. Though the V6 doesn’t sound that bad without the augmented pumped in sound. Also I noticed the 4.6 in this car sounds much like the 5.7 V8 in the sequoia prior to the redesign.
