I wanted to comment the same thing. Apparently "convicted murderer" is not an impediment. Also, so many people either can't afford college, or end up with debilitating debt, but here we have this exemplary individual not only getting a degree and a job in her field, but she can afford to opt out of it because "boredom". Something definitely wrong with this world.

Dr. G---"Most people don't have knowledge of destructive personality traits" What a great informative statement. People are often just flummoxed when people with personality disorders behave the way they do. It would do for everyone to watch your videos because you are actually educating the public instead of just looking for social media fame. Thank you for all you do.

"Most people don't have knowledge of destructive personality traits" - this right here is huge. For one, this is why it's so good what Dr. G is doing, teaching the world about these things. But also, it points to a giant gap in our education system. I think it's vital that all people receive at least a cursory education about personality traits and disorders, and about mental health in general.

My sister took psychology classes and has never been successful in applying it to real life situations. She got mentally stuck somewhere along the course. - My other sister initially came out of the class with "women smart, men dumb" mentality, that is until life experiences showed her it was more complex than that. - I had to figure it out via observation, and self reflection. It was painful, but I dropped a lot of bad views and now understand why my relatives behave the way they do.

@medea27

While I agree wholeheartedly with the need for better awareness & education about mental health (for kids _and_ adults), it should focus on situational & self-awareness rather than identifying traits or disorders. Human behaviour is highly complex & actions need to be assessed _in context..._ a destructive behaviour in one person (eg. focussing on their needs only) might actually be constructive for another (focussing on their own needs when they usually prioritise everyone else's). We should be teaching kids to use active listening, empathy & critical thinking to _assess_ a situation. The danger of categorising behaviours is that they are easily misinterpreted & misapplied... not every selfish act is malicious, and being selfish doesn't make you narcissistic. That's why Dr Grande is so careful with explaining _how_ he comes to his conclusions...there are no straight lines between a behaviour & a pathology.

When we were on holiday my 7 year old son and 9 year old stepson wanted to swim in the small hotel pool. I always got into the water with them and would never have just watched from the side, even if I was just a few feet away, that didn't seem safe to me. I can't imagine letting a 6 year old swim 150ft out into the ocean without a lifejacket! I would have insisted on a lifejacket and stayed in the water right beside them and also never out of my depth so I could easily rescue them if necessary. There is no excuse or justification for allowing a 6 year old child to drift off 150ft into the ocean!
@rejaneoliveira5019

Laura’s actions were indefensible- who leaves a 6 year old unattended at the beach and does not render CPR after the child has drowned? Furthermore, Kelly ended up facing such a terrible loss, first she lost her husband then her son to this awful woman. My heart goes out to her. Thank you for the analysis Dr. Grande, I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. ❤️ Also, what a lovely shirt! Pink is my favorite color.🌸🌸🌸

There's always something more chilling about a person who is willing to murder a child to get something for themselves _and_ still accept some culpability for their death... most people try to stay one or two steps removed from the crime to distance themselves from blame & give their story validity (eg. "I turned around & he'd been swept out to sea..."). Instead Laura weaves the entire event _around_ herself to extract the maximum manipulation opportunities ("look how kind & caring I am, taking Taylor for a beach picnic & noticing the life jacket chafing his neck... I was so panicked that I forgot every life saving measure I had available... I made a heroic dash for the hospital... etc etc). People like that are even more dangerous because you'll never see it coming.

My single mom had four of us in miami and always at the beach in the water. My bros were running around city on their own from the earliest age. My bros were snorkeling, catching fish for the oldest one’s aquarium, fishing and getting around on the bus and bikes. They became thieves, but no one drown. It’s a miracle we all made it through. My mom was neglectful. She wasn’t well. She did her best. We were totally dedicated and loved her bc she was always going to work. The message I got from her was, “I work. I take care of you guys. you should appreciate me.” Looking back on it, I see it a little bit differently.

Hey I have similar story. Only my mom had two kids not 4… and we lived in north jersey not Miami. But other than that , pretty similar. My mom did / still does have many issues with her personality , she could be very wicked at times. But she means well to be honest. She doesn’t do mean , awful things on purpose. But she does get very angry and turn verbal abusive and then apologize afterwards. But yeah anyway me and you have a similar story. Hope you’re doing better in life now. Later ✌️

In the 80ies and 90ies us children would literally take off from home for hours and come back injured having fallen from trees, bruised from riding our bikes, etc. I don't see it as a miracle you and your siblings having survived going swimming with the supervision of your mom. Tragic accidents happen, yes. But you can't helicopter children all day every day, especially when it's in a ratio 4:1. I'm sure your mom didn't imagine her life doing this without a partner to share all the responsibilities. I'm diagnosed with narcissism, I don't have children yet. My mood swings and anger management have improved with therapy over the years but I still have tantrums with my husband on bad days. Sometimes I wonder if I should be a mom one day or let it be because I'm scared of the damage I could do to their mental health. All I can hope for is that I'll always be trying my best cause I can't recover from my mental illness.

our mother is borderline... she had 5 children she did everything in her power to infantilize. One by one we grew up, got wise to how sick she is and moved out. With each child leaving the nest she would have yet another nervous breakdown and end up in the hospital. Im 53 now and cant even remember how many times this woman ended up in the hospital. What a nightmare our lives were at her hands. She;s now 85 and in ill health and not one of her children want anything to do with her. Every 6 months we find out she's had another nervous breakdown as she gets hospital staff and friends to reach out and find us to tell us about it. It's telling this woman would send her child back to his father but would take Taylor to the beach. Definitely shows premeditation. She seems to have a lot of personality traits similar to Diane Downs. She was another woman who thought getting rid of her kids so she could be with her new lover was no big deal. It's beyond appalling. This woman should have been sentenced as an adult for the premeditated murder of her ex boyfriend. Both my daughter and I are terrified of the ocean. We just like hanging out in the sand and look at the water or listen to the waves. Sometimes I will go in the water. I have swam in a river once as a dare but I get antsy around water. When kids are in the water I get anxious. I can’t believe she let him swim without a life jacket or not being around him. I don’t think she loved her husband. The kid looked so much like his dad. How could she not see that? She didn’t love the kid version of her husband and drown him. My little half sister reminds me of my sister who was born after me. I tend to subconsciously want to spoil her because of that connection.

We had a similar case in Spain a few years back. A woman killed her boyfriend's son from a previous marriage. She actually Frenched the man extensively in front of the cameras in a press conference because the ex-wife was standing next to him while discussing their son's disappearance.

This might be an unusual request, but a while ago there was a computer game called "Facade" It featured a virtual couple named Trip and Grace that are having marital issues, you play as an old friend coming to visit them and you can interact with them by typing. They react to what you type and this was very novel feature which made the project really popular at the time. Sometimes it takes them a second to react, but its still very interesting. I was wondering if you would be interested in playing through it, its fairly short, and might make an interesting video. I wanted to see how you would rate it for realism, and see if you can use real life techniques to get an idea of the personality behind the characters.

I think many women stay married for this reason. I think it’s to protect their child especially if the guy has history of picking the wrong women or is impulsive. David didn’t really know the woman and married her right away. It’s a big risk. You have to see people in their worst moments and how they handle stuff. But you also have to do a background check.

Anyone who’s cpr certified, does not Panic when it comes time to use it especially to save a child’s life. She drove to ensure that child wouldn’t survive the trip to the hospital. The man said she smiled & waved when got to the beach, not leaving. When leaving she was driving in a fast erratic manner. I saw his interview (in broken English). She wanted David alone, he would never leave his son.

Being CPR trained doesn't affect a person's level of neurosis, potential for panic, etc. She's still a killer though.

I would agree that she definitely has HPD, but just because someone has a fear of loss of a object of affection doesn’t mean they have BPD or will kill. BPD is often sensationalized and misdiagnosed. I believe she has ASPD. I also am very curious about her family history before 17, I could find nothing about her parents and her upbringing. She was 17 and on her own, very strange circumstances, and in her suicide note she left everything to her mother, but was living on her own (she stole her landlords gun). Very perplexing story
