To me it seems like a misguided power play " If I labor mightily to get this person their freedom, their sobriety , their sanity then they will be forever in my debt. I can control them completely "
Perhaps if one has the urge to "save" someone, that is not the appropriate person to attach oneself to. Meanwhile, I wonder which of her parents was the alcoholic.
Hi Dr. Grande. It seems to me these two were trying to escape the reality of their situation. Thanks for another interesting video about difficult analysis that keeps the suspense until the very end. Peace and fascinating times to you, Janine Smiley😍🤩😃😎🙂☕☕🥧☕☕🎂☕☕🍩
🌱 Yes agreed. I appreciate that his analysis are always fascinating, some may be older cases, some are current events. His ability & explaining as to the reasons why we do the things we do, or not do..he seems to be able to make sense out of nonsense.. I don’t mean that it’s not serious business what he does, he has a strong constitution to do his type of work. I appreciate him very much so.🌱
@@justinoz1526 there are people who, for various reasons believe they can fix or save a person-they get something out of this. Sadly, the reality is that you usually can't do this unless THEY want change badly enough to make a genuine effort to do it. This occurs more often than most of us realize. I agree with Dr Grande's thoughts, but I also suspect Dan was behind the killing. It didn't go according to plan e.g. was he really expecting to get shot, too?
@@amyrussell860 The state should not facilitate the delusion of the person who thinks they can save or fix a prisoner. As I asked in another comment: why are prisoners afforded the right to marry in prison? It's ridiculous & potentially dangerous. If a prisoner wants to reform they should take advantage of prison programmes designed to help rehabilitate them, not con naive people on the outside to lobby on their behalf.
It's a shame that Carol's father's parenting deprived her of an important support network and potentially led to her seeking support from dysfunctional relationships.
There's a ridiculous TV show about desperate people dating criminals in prison. I've never watched it, but I can't imagine getting involved with a criminal working out well.
Going to a prison for a husband is like shopping at New-to-You for underwear. Just don’t. And if you don’t have the means to shop elsewhere, just go without! 😆 Thanks Dr. G. I’d HOPE these stories are getting through to at least a few prison-love ponderers.
Oh boy Dr. Grande, how does anyone find the nerve to talk to strangers knowing they could be a dangerous Dan just as easily as not? But I’m absorbed with your treatment of their stories - you’re a treasure .
@@Koozomec yep, walls keep everyone out, but I’m protected by a bunch of Vaisnavs, and a devotee of Neem Karoli Baba so I personally feel safe in a graveyard at midnight- thanks for your thoughts. Ram Ram
I have subscribed to your channel for a long while now and I have to say it is nothing short of indepth education especially about mental health illnesses. I have suffered one myself and this channel has been of great value to me. Thank you Dr. Grande. Love from Nigeria!
Please take a look at the case of Nia Owens. She and I were friends and she was murdered in 1996 by nothing less than a demon. She was 14 at the time of her death. It took years to track down her killer and he is now free which is beyond any reason I can come up with. If you can dig up any information on this and add your unique spin of analyzing the trash juice of a human who killed her, I would truly appreciate hearing your insights. Her story is only more tragic because of how few people know of her, how her life was cut so short and how our alleged justice system saw it appropriate to free a child murderer so quickly. Thank you.
This is disgraceful. I'm so sorry. Our justice system has truly become an injustice system. Thanks to insane policies demanding "sympathy for the devil." God, help us. I'll pray for justice for this poor girl and healing for you and her loved ones.
Wow ! I looked up this case . I cannot believe he got out after 9 years . Of course he had " good behavior " in prison . He couldn't stalk and rape , young girls there . Also , he had help and that person has never been caught . No justice was served . I hope her mother is still fighting for full term , prison sentences .
@F C You do realize that up to 10% of inmates are innocent don't you? I agree our justice system is a wreck, but not because it's too sympathetic, but because its too evil. It has literally become the prison industrial complex. Benjamin Franklin (one of the founders of our system) said "that it is better 100 guilty persons should escape that one innocent person should suffer".
I'm so sorry this has happened. It is heartbreaking that so few know of her. I really feel for her mum and those who loved her. I can't understand why he'd only have to serve nine years!!!! As well as being punished for taking away the life of a child and in such a horrible way, surely he should still be in prison because anyone who is capable of doing what he did to her is surely a dangerous person.
🌱 Hi there Dr. Grande, kind of snuck in on my phone there… Looks like I’m about 30 minutes behind, but that doesn’t mean I’m not ready. You always get a thumbs up before I even start the show.. you’re my favorite Dr. Grande. The one and only.🌵
Wow like looking in the mirror in some ways being a nurse I found myself thinking I could fix relationships learning from mistakes no you can’t. Now I question everyone due to immediate family trying to be both mentally and verbally abused. I have tons and tons of friends and learned to weed out those that are harmful. Love your discussion very insightful.
Dr. Grande you’re part of what inspired me to pursue a degree in psychology. Currently attending ASU. So glad we have such an educational and entertaining channel to enjoy!
🤣 👏👏 Thank you again Dr Grande. I needed a good laugh this morning.!! Not that the story is funny, by no means. But your…. Probably because the pain and death parts…. Love your commentaries. Big time
That’s a very sad story. Unfortunately, I think many people settle for a subpar partner for fear of loneliness. Obviously not everyone engages with a criminal but often times people are willing to overlook clear signs of disfunction in order to pursue a love story. Alright, now moving over to your podcast on Candy Montgomery, I am almost done watching it.😉 Thank you for your incessant work producing amazing videos for your audience, that’s much appreciated, Dr. Grande.❤️
Still my favorite show on RU-vid...As long as Dr. Grande keeps committed to telling us his stories, I'll keep enjoying his stories. It ha become such a habbit, I don't know what I would do without my daily dose? Experience withdrawal symptoms for sure...and we don't want none of that, do we? Hi from Belgium. 😉

Such a sad and puzzling case! Love these older crime cases that I've haven't heard of before, and listening to your breakdown of them! Such a great video Dr. Grande!
Perhaps you could work your speculative magic on the case of the three missing Skelton brothers? In any case you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work
"The Rain Falls on the Saved and the Damned": Hard times are common. Just ask Carol. What had she done to deserve the stern father, the unresponsive lover turned husband, and the deadly Dan Montecalvo whom she tried to save from a life of crime? The answer is "nothing." She didn't actually do anything wrong in the strong sense of the word, yet she was a victim of injustice, hardness of heart, and prejudices. People who are decent but are dissatisfied with their lives often put on weight. Weight isn't just weight. It's a sign. It says, "Life is difficult and the only comfort I can find is eating foods that make me feel better, but also make me appear to others like a blimp. I know it's not good but I need food to compensate for the hardships." The love that she sought in life appeared to come from Dan Montecalvo. But Montecalvo was the least likely person to provide that. He was a difficult man, with many inherited demons. Dan's problem was a lack of structure and orientation. He sought comfort in his addictions. He lived the life of the damned. Carol lived a missionary life of hope and redemption. Both of them failed. Moral of the lesson: just because you want to do good, know who you are dealing with before you act. The next scene might include your own brutal murder. Thanks for reading. 🤭
The rainfall verse is about mercy.and grace. The rain is GOOD, not bad. Her first marriage was hardly better; an Eastern man in the 1970s is a TERRIBLE match. The treatment of women was appalling.
If he owed so much obey to some entity for gambling debts, they may have been tired of waiting and sent people. That would explain why they didn’t care the lights were on and there were vehicles there. I am highly doubtful he committed the crime and feel he ended up jailed because he called out the cowardice of the police. He was right to do so.
Dr.Grande I would really love you to analyze the case of Ricardo Lopez. He’s the man who was obsessed with the singer Bork.He filmed himself over months (its on RU-vid) kills himself after sending a nail bomb to her. It’s really sad to see somebody deteriorate right in front of you and not be able to help them.I thought you might find it interesting especially because it’s videotape and you can get somewhat of a clinical idea of what he’s suffering from
Hey Dr. Grande💝 As always, your work & your timing is flawless & impeccable!! Great analysis Dr Grande. That poor women, didn't stand a chance, I believe Dan shot himself, too get rid of his wife, and for the money. Thank you Dr Grande. Great analysis. Sad topic.
Are you serious? You've been watching too many thriller movies. Nobody in their right mind shoot themselves in the back. It's too risky considering the easy access to vital organs. No guns were found. The pigs even looked in books. No gunshot residue on him. Plus, the vindictive cops were out for revenge, bcuz of the lawsuit and he even wrote down the times he spotted cops following him. Do you really think the city wanted to pay out eleven mil to a career criminal? Pigs have killed for less. The cops are as corrupt as the criminals. Cops generate most the revenue for cities thru traffic enforcement and the hate to lose
@@cottontails9003 Not! Watch again, he was shot in the back and it went into his intestines. He didn't shoot himself. You just want to believe he's guilty, cuz the authorities say so. You want to believe the authorities are always right. One day you'll see just how corrupt the system is. You think they protect and serve? They take and lie.
@@scottricci5063 your immaturity is showing. Pig stands for pride, integrity and guts. You can't condemn all police. There are a few bad ones ,of course. But most are good. They live from paycheck to paycheck. Some even have to get food stamps if they live on their own. Most have to live with one or more roommates. You can wash gunshot residue off . People have been known to shoot themselves. Look at Diane Downs. Anyway, if you need help, don't call the cops you hate so much. Wouldn't want your space to be invaded by a "pig". Grow up.
How would Dan have shot himself in the back? And after shooting himself in the back, how and where did he get rid of the guns? It's not like he could get away for a few minutes before the police arrived, with a gunshot wound through his torso.
Excellent commentary!! She had trouble finding men because of her looks so she choose to try to fix a self destructive man who bought destruction on het as well. BRAVO !!!! I have seen many women chose men they should Know to leave alone.
She had problems that prevented her from meeting men, and admittedly there are many people who rule out potential dates because of weight. That wasn’t her biggest impediment. She clearly had some self worth issues. In fact, given that she was reared in the Catholic Church, I can tell you where she likely got a lot of them.
He had a lot of motive (financial- 600L life insurance, he was a gambler) He had much more opportunity than anyone else, unless someone did intrude (unlikely without his consent). He had a least one gun, even though he was a felon. He was a lifetime criminal and a substance abuser. He also married one of her friends. It would be hard to imagine too many scenarios where he wasn't guilty, he could have set up the entire scene in one way or another. Very interesting case, thank you for the video.
Thank you so much! Love your analyzes. Could you do commentary on the man who represented himself at his trial accused of raping his wife, attempting to kill her and child neglect?
I agree totally. I would even lean towards not guilty. I think it’s very uncommon to have someone shoot you in the back to make yourself look innocent.
@@joditorkelson8649 lt seems like Dan didn't commit the crime if no guns were found - unless he managed to get them back into that book and the police never searched it....He could have just shot himself in the wrong place in all the chaos of the crime - or maybe Carol somehow got hold of the smaller gun and shot him before she died (Like in films). He could have been wearing gloves which he also had time to hide...?
That'll buy you a 24 ounce Milwaukee's best. I thoroughly enjoy your insight and your format. Don't have a ton of money but will continue supporting as I can.
carol probably thought she could use psychology to extract dan from his deeply entrenched criminality? what if it were so entrenched that it was written in his dna? he could be from a line of criminals stretching well beyond his criminal father. what was she thinking?
“He lived in Hollywood, so why wouldn’t he have a manuscript?!”lol When I first met my fiancé in Toronto, he had driven from L. A., for a seasonal job opportunity, and (of course) he was traveling with 2 screen plays, that he had written. I found that a little odd at the time, but I brushed it aside, and decided he was a keeper.
Great Stuff, Dr. Grande. Thank you for exposing stuff that should be left to fiction. You take on a tremendous burden in your exploration; much apreciated. All the best, Stephen
Carol's father threw her to the wolves when he refused to accept her back after making a youthful innocent mistake. He was the first unfeeling man in her life.
I get that he was a criminal, in and out of jail a lot. But you cannot convict someone solely based on their past. You need solid evidence more than he said/she said or a confession.
@@jonadams2334 people make mistakes in life. It's part of the life. You cannot show me a single human being on this planet that hasn't made a mistake.... let me give you an example. I live in Nebraska and pot here is illegal. Next state Colorado is illegal. A kid I grew up with did 16 years because cops found some ditch weed on him. DITCH WEED for 16 years dude. When he got out I couldn't even recognize him, you can see signs of depression and ptsd.... Are you telling me he don't deserve a second chance? What was seriousness of his crime? Murder? Bank robbery?
When women are not discerning when it comes to partners, the consequences are sometimes not just heartbreak. They can end up being persuaded to make bad decisions that result in legal consequences or worse. I feel for Carol. Perhaps if her family had been supportive, she would not have been so vulnerable.
I just finished reading the book about this case that Karen Kingsbury wrote, Final Vows. This one will always have us wondering. Did they send an innocent man to prison?
What if Dan had paid someone to ransack, and make like a robbery attempt at the house? The plan was to take a night walk to get wife out of the way. but that hired person was caught off guard? In a state of panic, both of them were shot by this intruder to escape quickly. I don't think this man would have been any happier going to Hawaii for a vacation anyway.
I feel driving around with a manuscript composed with bad grammar should be a felony (at the least a misdemeanor). It definitely should get you some time in grammar prison. 😅😂
Dr Grande I love, love, love your channel. I am a long time Delaware resident and was wondering if you saw clients in private practice. Also could you touch upon the Mandela Effect?
*Dr. Grande...* Normally "prison love" leads to a ruptured sphincter not a carefully planned murder. I'm very curious to see how this video plays out. 🤔 *"NUFF SAID"™️*
10:28 Lol! Dr. Grande is one of my favorite sit-down comedians and very easily the most deadpan. This one is funny because it's true: You can't swing a dead cat in Burbank, California without hitting an aspiring screenwriter (or actor). By enjoying the humor and chiming in here, I mean no disrespect toward the victim, Carol Montecalvo.
