@@STANDupPhilosopher73 because it would have looked a bit silly in an already over the top berserk movie to have wherever he goes there's either a drug dealer shootout, sniper shooting at kids, explosion at a prostitutes house, this was pretty unrelated to the story so it got canned
Mel with an angry look on his face, 80's style mullet, and a fully loaded 9mm Beretta brings back so many good memories. This was an action movies were truly action movies.
In the movie when murtaugh first meets Riggs and refers to that little stunt yesterday as pretty heroic.. it was this deleted scene.. not the shootout n arrest at the Xmas tree lot👍👍👍
@@mkrny111 thats the bit I thought Murtaugh was referring to when I saw this on VHS theatrical release...waaaay before I even knew this scene existed, never mind was cut out.
@@mkrny111 aye, I've seen those bits (re-watched the opening bar fight recently actually). Personally I'd prefer them left in, and the bit where Riggs asks the prostitute to come home and watch TV with him. Having just had a nice time over dinner with a new partner that's what he does... Speaks volumes about how lonely and cut up he really is.
I took it as a "now we're talkin'" reaction, since his character had just been introduced and established as suicidal. If the guy is willing to hurt a kid, then he shouldn't have a problem offing a police officer. That's why he stands in one spot and gives the guy the chance to shoot him. When the guy fails horribly, Riggs takes him out.
Police just need to tell FUTURE SNIPERS: Hey,Mr.Sniper….. We called Riggs, he’s is on the way to talk to you! Watch how fast Sniper Man comes running to the police with their hands up💯😂
Why call SWAT. Just call Riggs instead. Love it when Riggs took out the lunatic gunman and SWAT arrives running up the stairs and Riggs is walking back to his car. No problem.
It's really a shame that they didn't release the director's cut on Blu-ray I've read online somewhere that it is not really approved by Richard Donner as a true director's cut but it is nice to have that extra footage and the Blu-ray is just a standard cut of the film which is why I will hold on to my regular DVD of this
Well...at least he was honest about it. I kinda wonder, though, if honesty and bravery count for anything, anymore. Look at how many times that the Powers-That-Be have conveniently lied to us. Then, when ya try to pin 'em down, and call 'em on their trash, they duck and run (In a verbal manner, of course), like a bunch of cowards! Just give me bravery and honesty any day. If I mess up, I'll be the first to admit it. I'm brave enough, and honest enough, to admit when I'm wrong. Shouldn't we all be that way?
Love the directors cuts of the first 2 Leathal Weapon movies, picked up the novelization a couple of years ago, its really good, a few different things between book and movie, but worth the read...
The beginning of Lethal Weapon 3 could almost be a nod to this scene. In that one just after the bomb blew up the bomb squad turned up whereas in this scene after Riggs killed the sniper SWAT turned up
For me, the BEST SCENE CUT caus' we can see crazy RIGGS n' why his nickname is "Lethal Weapon"...he's shooting "Mister Sniper" with précision. WAOOOO...the best moment of movie that we have never seen caus' cut...that's pitty ?! There, it is real RIGGS not like the televison series who is too Kind and not rather crazy :-)
I love this scene as well as it shows how crazy he is. I have the director's cut and it was probably cut from the theatrical version since Mel's Aussie accent is strong in the scene.
He had a death wish in the beginning because of his pain from losing his wife… as you can tell when the sniper shot at him, he didn’t even budge. But when he came back for another shot… he was out for blood, and Riggs never misses his target.
The funny part of the whole thing is, is that Riggs wanted to "Have a shot at this guy". Leave it to Riggs, to get the job done that the other "Cops" were too afraid to do!
@@roberthall573 Man... that crazy Gary.....Busey! He's one of the nuttiest, weirdest, and funniest, actors, that you'll ever come across! A true homestyle sense of humor, some of the absolute biggest teeth you've ever seen in a person's smile, and just doing things his own way, and gittin' 'er done! I like Ol' Gary. He's one of my all-time favorite actors. A huge salute to ya, Gary ..Busey!
@@roberthall573 Gary Busey, playing the part of a nut job in Silver Bullet, ain't a big reach for him. The man is a true wild child, when it comes to being silly and funny and all. @@commanderkeen3787 another expert testimony on RU-vid ( about a movie lol). Posted as a fact. Absolutely disregarding human reflexes taught in 3rd grade biology.
Riggs get back here or it’s ur badge😂😂😂.. we need the late frank McRae yelling from 48 hours and last action hero telling ..sllllllllaaaaaaaaattteerrrr!!!!!😂😂😂.. riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggsss!!!! U go n it’s ur badge.. you’ll be twisting in the wind, hung out to dry, up the creek without a paddle 😂😂
We miss the big police lieutenant who’d yell in all the movies . Sllllkaaaatteerrrrrrr!!!…. If u miss, you’ll be hung out to dry, you’ll be twisting in the wind, you’ll be up the creek w no paddle.. he was in 48 hrs, last action hero, loaded weapon, and was meat house foreman in Rocky 2. 👍👍
Absolutely a great seen a wonderful part of the movie he goes up there and then once he sees a kid gets shot he's like no wait a minute that is so cool and so brave and I bet there are a lot of police that are out there that would probably do this and thank goodness for our police departments and sheriff's offices and people that put their selves on the line in the line of duty for stuff like this
In addition to showing his shooting skills, it also reinforces the blatant disregard Riggs has for his own safety, and his own life as a result of his wife's death.
can u imagine being this actor and telling your family in Oklahoma...im in a summer blockbuster movie with Mel Gibson as the lead...IT LOOKS AMAZING!...so 6 months later you take your family to see you on the big screen and...YOU WERE CUT OUT!...GRRRRR!
For me, the scene is made by the expression in the eyes. In character, it's almost: I'm still alive. But then to chide himself: That was stupid! And walk away portraying indifference. Perhaps I'm reading too much into the scene but, as some have commented, very few movies of this kind these days. Stay Safe! 👍
The sadness in Mel Gibson's eyes as Martin Riggs, after he has won the shoot-out, and killed the sniper, has a lot of emotion and depth to it. I feel Martin Riggs's sadness at that scene, at not wanting to have to do that, at wishing the world was not like that. Not a lot of actors are as good as Mel Gibson.
Another way to look at it is from a marksman position. The target is behind a metal barricade. Riggs needs to draw him out for the kill shot hence the line “do you only shoot kids.” This sets the stage for his character & suicidal tendencies. I would have loved if this scene had not been cut because it’s early in the movie, but the payoff is right after the jumper & Roger asks him if he has a death wish. The best scene though is the look of stunned awe from Roger when Riggs tells him how he killed a guy in Laos at a great distance with a rifle at high wind. Roger is also ex-military. He knows that only a few people in the world can make that shot & he’s,staring agape at one of them.
As much as i love this scene it was rightfully deleted. It just repeats the Christmas tree drug deal scene in terms of Riggs risking his life to take down bad guys. But still am awesome scene though.
A bit unrealistic in that Riggs would have to have stuck around to answer questions, and pick up paperwork for the incident - but... hell of a scene... should have been kept.
