The second I hit publish, my heart sank a little In fear of how you would perceive this video. Thank you for your light hearts and beautiful words, I appreciate you for taking the time to watch this and comment. I have ready each and every comment. 🥺The good news is that I am in such a better place where I could be open about these issues with you now. Love you all!

I have watched your videos for many years and told my husband a dream of mine … one day when i conquer my anxiety/panic disorder and the fear of flying I am going to Sam Fran to have my hair done by Silvia. Little did I know that you struggled too… I can identify with almost everything but nothing tears at your heart more than the fear that your child might not be liked.. I am also a very sensitive empathetic person so I feel the weight of the world so much more than a lot of people. I’ve had anxiety since I can remember and it comes in waves where I am ok for few years and then it gets worse again and I’m just at the low point again .. I will check out a couple of your book recommendations as I am a reader but other than Atomic habits have not heard of the others .. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and struggles, I feel you more than you’ll ever k ow and I’d never judge you for that. ❤❤

I agree. And don’t let analytics dictate who you should be. Comments and analytics can be data to consider, but I believe people follow you because they enjoy your authenticity and desire to share your expertise. I think the way you have educated people about all the variables regarding going blonde, has help most of us realize how complicated and unpredictable it can be to do at home! It’s given me added respect for a good colorist!

People unsubscribe, not because they don't like Amelia, they just once subscribed to maybe hair or makeup video, and now seeing child/mom content doesn't suit their tastes in general. Maybe it triggers them. You never know. Don't blame yourself or you little Amelia for their choices and preferences. Some go, some come, its natural. You are doing a great job with whatever you post!

Suggest during morning time: Praying, breathing in the goodness of God, being thankful to whom/what? To God. LOVE all the growth and self reflection. During one marriage slump I said to my husband- “you being less than perfect is actually good for me,” it causes self reflection and growth in me. . . And FYI, I come and go- basically I come when I need hair tips for blondes but don’t want to be in you tube more than I need to be. Thanks.

I’m so, so, SO glad to hear that you noticed how scrolling on your cell phone affected your mood. It took me a long time to realize how social media directly correlates with mental health and anxiety. I personally had to quit social media altogether. I’m so much more at peace and have so much more mental clarity. And more importantly I’m present and actually enjoying the current moment. I refuse to live my life on my phone. RU-vid is your job so idk if that’s a realistic option for you but just wanted to share. I wish you the best! Keep going❤️

Sylvia, I started watching your RU-vid videos like 10 years ago. You are a true OG RU-vidr. When I moved to San Francisco in 2017, you became my hairdresser and I’ve never had a better one. I’ve loved watching your videos post pandemic - watching you learn and grow within yourself, your work, your relationships, and now motherhood. You are relatable and amazingly vulnerable. I have been having a lot of panic attacks lately (tingly fingers, feeling faint) and it always helps to listen you talk about ways you’ve gotten through it. I love you and will always a fan of you and your work! Amazing job editing btw ❤😘!

You have a super power which is hair - focus on that. That’s why I watch. There’s no shortage of mommy content there’s an excess. I hear about mommy complaints all day long in my private life from co workers and friends they can’t help it and can’t stop. I’m not even a mom. But I lend a sympathetic ear to them. So if I see it on RU-vid I’m not going to waste my time watching it. Posting about your daughter is signaling to the audience that your priorities have shifted not because we don’t like your child. I also watch you because I admire your beauty, your skill and talent. You also have great taste - the music you choose in your videos and I’ve gained a lot from all the tips and tricks you’ve shared. Keep going.😊

Wow. You just gained me as a fan BIG TIME. I discovered you about two months ago when I had an at home hair disaster. I found you so helpful and started to watch lots of your videos to understand what happened to my hair and I learned so much. I so appreciate what you just shared and totally understand anxiety and panic attacks and marvel that despite struggling with this you chose a public forum to have your business in. It takes guts and so much strength these days with cancel culture and people being offended by literally everything. And also ppl don't get how hard it is to make videos. Talking and smiling at the same time, remember your topic, staying on track, editing all while making it look pro and so easy when it can be really hard! You are SO talented!! Please keep making your videos. I think you are wonderful!!!

I started watching you during the pandemic when I wanted to do my own hair. You helped me so much! Thank you! So I just want to say, after watching this video, that I relate to you so much and feel a lot of the same things (wanted to be the perfect mom, love my alone time, reading, have had to learn to forgive others for not meeting my high standards that I set for myself!). Just want you to feel great about being who you are, because you’re perfect just as you are. We all are. It’s taken me 60 years to figure that out. 😉

I appreciate all the time and energy you devote to your channel! I have learned so much from you; the way you explain things, taking your time to ensure the information is relatable and understood. You break down the elements of the information you’re sharing and you find a balance of sharing the key elements of the ‘lesson’ without being boring or dragging the concepts out. Your energy is so mellow and it’s a pleasure to listen to you talk. It actually kind of soothes me. 😊 In regards to anxiety and symptomatic ocd: OCD that is symptomatic vs a true constant disorder can stem from feeling overwhelmed with things around you in which you lack control of. In times like these, it’s a coping mechanism. I.e.; you’re worrying about a bunch of outside things affecting your life- you meet a friend for lunch at a restaurant and you find yourself fixating on the napkins and silverware on the table being straight. Or pamphlets on a counter; you find a compulsion to straighten them in an orderly fashion. These compulsions are more impulsive in times when there are a lot of outside factors going haywire and they are out of your control. Being mindful of your behavior in these moments is a good thing. This is where breath work and awareness is key. Anxiety can be redirected. Again, breath work, in the moment and using your 5 senses can benefit you and help redirect your ‘present’. Personally, I like to use my sense of smell. I have various soothing oils and lotions that I’ll use on my hands, wrists, etc. and I try to focus on being present in smelling the scents. I will breath deep (like yoga breath work) in through my nose and out of my mouth. I envision good energy coming in and all the negative going out. Asking/praying that the negativity neutralize, if you will. I’ve been dealing with this sort of stuff my entire life. It doesn’t define you. If you read Albert Einstein’s autobiography, he discusses energy and gets into how it’s impossible for intense emotions/energy can last for eternity. That concept helped me immensely! You be you! I wish you the best of luck at working on yourself and finding what works best for you!❤

I've loved watching you change and grow and come into your own and now that you are a mother and still doing your thing, it's just beautiful to watch! I love that your daughter is blessed to have a mama that cares to cater to people that cannot afford to go to a salon, but you still help us all to have beautiful hair! She gets to see you have a heart for humans all over, whether we can afford to pay salon prices or not. Whether we are your in person client or not. That's amazing and you are the first person I've ever seen take these professional skills and share that knowledge selflessly. I hope you grow tremendously in your in person and online client base because you deserve it! - from another mother trying to make everything work while dealing with the same mental struggles, I appreciate you so much!!

Everyone shares the highlights of their lives, it's in our nature to want people to see the best version of ourselves, but I think it takes a secure and courageous person to show the good, the bad, and the ugly and know that people respond to that with respect and admiration. I never comment on videos, but I feel like I have to on this since it resonates with me so much. The last couple of minutes, especially. It is inspiring. I have watched your videos for years and appreciate you for teaching me how to color and cut my own hair. I am fascinated with hair but never went to school for it. I am a 47 year old mom of beautiful twin girls in college, an esthetician, a nail tech, and an artist, and I always want to teach others what I know through my experiences. Even more now that I have been receiving therapy for anxiety, ptsd, depression,ADD, perfectionism, etc. I have felt deeply that I should be making and sharing content to help others. But I have never made a video and don't even know where to begin. It feels like time just keeps passing, and making progress toward anything feels so slow when you have anxiety and perfectionism. I admire your vulnerability. It really spoke to my heart.

I've been watching your channel for some time now, learning how to color my own hair, because to me it's a form of self-expression, and also probably a form of OCD as well if I think about it! But hearing someone else share that they have had the same struggles as me, that there are others out there like me, and no less someone who looks literally as amazing as you do, is just so validating. And I know I'm not the only one thinking this. Thank you - thank you for sharing so authentically, as you are validating the experiences of so many of us who look on instagram, youtube, wherever, and see beautiful people, and can know that not everyone is actually perfect, even if they present themselves this way. You are so tremendously beautiful, smart and talented. Keep up the amazing work!!!

You are the best blonde colorist I have seen. I have fine thin hair and have learned so much from your expertise. I have been a nurse for sooo many years and sometimes we all feel imposter syndrome. The trauma codes I have worked in say otherwise. You are not an imposter, but rather an artist. I love your hair videos and that’s what I enjoy watching. Your doing a great job. You will figure out what you need to do for your business and what is best for you and your family. Everything will fall into place.

Elle, your vulnerability just makes you more beautiful and authentic - something that is very hard to come by on social media. I have recently subscribed to your channel because you did exactly what you said - you brought content that was so meaningful and made a difference, you are constantly living the difference, growing as a person on a live stage! That’s brave and beautiful. Your philosophy in life is to become the best version of yourself and that is what you present and that’s not easy when you have a lot of pressure to deliver on people’s changing needs and wants. I respect the time and energy you put into bringing your content to the world. I’m going to go and read the books you read as they resonate with me and if you ever start a book club please let us know. Kind regards, Charlie ❤

Remember your content has always been educational first and foremost. You have been generous in teaching skills!! Hair, style, make up, skin care, etc. You are an educator and your personality and lifestyle and Adam and Amelia are all just icing on top . But please don’t be distracted or analyze how people receive the icing. Many are here for the cake only.

I just found you. I watched a home highlights vid from like 8yrs ago. I was so excited to see a new vid. Thank you for sharing your experiences. It really gave me some key things to think about. It’s hard to be vulnerable and you did it with grace. I relate to a lot of your struggles. Thanks again.

You are so beautiful inside & out. I really appreciate your authentic offering, raw vulnerability in sharing. As an introvert in a professional public space dealing with anxiety it’s so difficult to do this and I commend you, hear you, respect you, applaud you and thank you.

I never comment on videos but felt you deserved a comment. I’ve been a long time viewer, maybe 5 or 6 years. I don’t watch every video because most don’t apply to my hair, but the videos I’ve found that do are so so helpful! I appreciate the advice you’ve given. I’ve always admired your hair, makeup, and style. I would love to see lifestyle vlogs, or style tips. I would definitely watch those videos! I’m glad you posted this. This alone will keep me as a subscriber for years to come. Best of luck to you! :)

It’s heartbreaking to hear your sadness because to me you *are* all the things you believed you were in your strongest hours. I understand life has its ups and downs (had a bit of a day myself today) it’s expected, it will pass and if handled correctly, we grow better. God bless and loads of love ❤

I've had anxiety and panic attacks my entire life started in school middle school escalated really bad at 16 and 17 moving into adult hood it got worse especially when I was driving at work I can totally relate I have not even been on RU-vid that much anymore I'm so glad that I clicked on your video I have been following you for years just happened to see this I'm so glad that I did You have so much to offer and I thank you for that and being so transparent with us I can say it does get better but with every panic attack I felt like I was on the brink of death I literally felt I was dying and then for someone to tell me well calm down was the worst because you can't- just said a prayer for you You are so beautiful and kind and amazing to watch I've always loved your videos This gives me hope for another day and for my life I'm grateful to have you special out for those of us that are silenced by this crippling disease- anxiety panic attacks-I absolutely can totally relate to everything you said and truly understand , God bless you 🙏💜 Your friend always Wendy

I struggle with severe depression and anxiety. So I can relate to the anxiety. Just you having the courage to do RU-vid videos is ALOT. I remember first watching you and I could feel your anxiety. But I admired your courage to get through it despite you going through it. I do agree with breathing. I had started getting palpitations, so my anxiety was affecting my heart! Breathing was what actually stopped it. Do not underestimate the power of just breathing. So when people say just breath, it makes me mad initially lol but honestly, idk where I’d be if I didn’t do it. I so appreciate your honesty. I really truly enjoy transparent videos like this. It might be hard to film so for that I thank you. But I appreciate having someone to relate to despite your success! You’re an inspiration.

Wow that was awesome! Thank you for doing something scary and making yourself vulnerable. That gives the rest of us courage too. I have been watching you through the pandemic and only one other hair stylist (Hair Budha). You both have helped me atleast highlight my hair for the past few years. I could never cut it myself. Your videos show your confidence and skills, thats what i see even though at times you may not be feeling it. Much ❤️ and respect to you. And your daughter is adorable.

Your articulation on your journey is rather impressive. Thank you for sharing ❤. Book recommendation, ok so I am in my mid 40’s and have gone on the self help, reflection book dive, which of course did a lot of good, so I am glad your getting so much out of it. As for the past three years, I had been in a rather stressful situation and turned to books again but this time, I went into historical, romance. I know it may seem funny, but I didn’t really know what I liked and had to discover it through books. My suggestion is read as much as you can and find what you love, it’s a game changer. So I started watching your videos about a year ago, I have been cutting hair for 20 years on the side for family and friends. About 7 months ago the company I was working for went under, and I turned to hair. I ate up so many of your videos and you made me believe I could do it. I watched you do some crazy things that I thought might not work out and they did. Sometimes I am so afraid that I am not going to make the customer happy or do something wrong that I can’t get over it. I am glad you were able to share that even when you had your dream situation you still struggled with the feeling that you weren’t as good or that you weren’t perfect. Keep going, many blessings to you and your family and thank you.❤

I have struggled for years with anxiety and not feeling like enough...I am proud of you for being vulnerable, for having awareness, for trying to make positive movements forward. You are not alone!!!! Many of the things you have said, I have felt the same way!!! And I TOTALLY hear you about the "complaining thing" because I do the same thing...and I don't consider myself complaining but like you said, needing someone to realize I'm not ok. Hang in there!! I hope you are doing better now!!
