Hey Guys! Octane Restorations back here with another Motorcycle restoration! Today we have a 1988 Goldwing GL1500 in the shop that has been sitting for over a decade. This is actually a motorcycle I bought for myself and plan on riding after I get it running! Today's video is the thirteenth step in that process, fixing the seized starter. Thanks for watching, please consider liking and subscribing if you enjoyed the video!

Another high octane video.... I use to have an alternator shop I could get any parts but now (like most) he retired... I want to rebuild both the starter and alternator but haven't found any kits... any idea(s)? as for installing brushes.... I drill a small hole in the end of the brush holder.. make sure no birrs.. then pull the brush back past the hole and slide a pin (rivet, drill bit) in the hole. it holds the brushes.. then once its together just remove the pins and you're done.

Thank you for the kind words! I do not have any idea's on kits to rebuild them. This goldwing is an 88 and it has the different starter than the other years, I figure I could use the brushes on the starter plate and solder them on if I wear out these brushes! But as far as kits go I am not aware of any, hopefully my local shop can rebuild them. That's a great idea, I really wish I would've thought of that! I have seen videos on people winding alternators, it is definitely a lost art. I personally have not done it, but I might try if mine ever go out!

@@octanerestorations Maybe take the brushes & bearings to your local shop and see what they match with... that's what I did with my alternator guy.. once we found its twin I would write down the number(s) and share it on forums...... unfortunately I haven't found any posts with this info and since I live in Pa. alternator shops are like hens teeth so I'm out of luck!! BTW mine is an 88 also.

@@TheMamonti1www.partzilla.com/product/honda/31203-MT8-008?titan_sku=31203-MT8-008 That is the plate I stole the springs off of, and it has 2 brushes attached. I did find an alternator brush and it says it would work on an 88! www.partzilla.com/product/honda/31101-MN5-005
