Just a few extra details that were left out from the LN 1. It had been weeks, rudy didn't eat anything, stayed locked in his room, before roxy coming to rudy's room, elinalaise geese roxy and others were discussing about the situation, roxy got informed by others abour rudeus marrige here and she got flustered about it, elinalaise suggested a girl might help him, not random but someone close could only help him, when asked, she said she couldn't do it with rudy cuz of Cliff, so roxy went ahead and helped rudy out. 2. Rudy pushed roxy onto the bed after roxy provoking him instead of roxy doing it in the anime here. And some details about how roxy was during u know what told by rudy was left out. 3. When elinalaise confronted rudy later, she also implied that roxy could be pregnant, even so roxy was letting herself out, so she suggested rudy to take her in, it is similar kinda to the paul situation with lilia, kinda parallel, that's all.

I think you guys missed the point with what Elinalise and everyone else thinks about Rudy. They think he’s fine and that he’ll easily push through because he’s always put on a front with everyone, but in reality, he’s terrible at dealing with trauma. Roxy is the only one who has seen him in that state AND helped him pushed through his trauma. She’s pretty much the perfect person in this scenario to help Rudy (outside of maybe Sylphy).

Sylphie earlier this season said something along the kines of "i dint mind if u get a secind wife". She was chilling with Rudy's parents when he was gone a lot, so she is ready for this shit

There is a line in the Web novel from Elinalise where she said "I was Roxy's friend before Sylphy's grandma" which I feel is fucked up but it kinda makes her decision to convince Rudy make more sense

There were a lot of details left out and switched around from the LN, but from an anime-only perspective, how things went down between Roxy and Rudy make all sorts of sense. Roxy felt like she failed as a master for Rudy because he was so talented, not really knowing up until much later that he is the way he is because she helped him brave the outside world for the first time. Sleeping with him was her way of saving him before he lost himself because "it's better to be a scumbag than regret not doing more." The whole situation is obviously still horrible when considering the fact that Rudy has a pregnant wife at home (made much worse in the LN), but at least these characters own up to being shitty people who act in their own self-interest to save the ones they love.

Just want to point out when roxy walks into rudys room that's 10 days after pauls death and rudy has been barely eating or drinking in that time and refused to leave the room. This episode prob cut the most stuff from the light novel in the anime adaptation so far.

also 3 things: firstly sylphie even suggested some time ago that rudeus get a concubine because of the pregnancy, and yes there IS obviously a difference between a concubine and cheating and even getting a second wife but still it shows that sylphie is atleast open minded secondly lets not push our real world views onto a fictional fantasy world, it seems like in that world polygamy while not THE standart it certainly isnt uncommon especially for aristocracy thirdly sylphie knew rudeus was a greyrat and she also knew what greyrat men are like

Something intersting to note: from the way Elinalise talks it seems like marrying multiple people is more common/accepted in their world (I haven't read the LN or manga so idk if thisnis right or not). Of course, Rudeus still betrayed Sylphie's trust and Roxy still took advantage of his grievance, there's no arguing that (personally, I believe they're both equally at fault). Still, I really like the way Mushoku Tensei reminds you every now and then that this is a different world, with different morals and different rules. It's very thought provoking and really makes you question what differentiates a "good" and a "bad" person, if such a distinction can even be made.

Geese told Elinalise to go sex him and she said she couldn't do it because he is married to her granddaughter. Roxy hears that and is dying inside. And that's after saying they could take him to a brothel since Lilia is preoccupied with Zenith.

There are a handful of polygamist characters out there in shows and the like, but this is the only series I can think of off the top of my head that actually has such a concept as a work in progress. Feels like this show is jumping right into uncharted territory and I think they’re going about it pretty legit so far.

V extra context from LN V In the LN they have a reunion to cheer up rudy (he was not gonna suvive the travel back like that) and Elinalise was Roxy close friend for the time they adventure. Also a fun fact: he gave a lot of hints about being reicarneted to roxy and it seems like she undestood.

Apparently i hear from a lot of light novel readers that this was made significantly smaller than it was supposed to be, and I think the most shocking detail they skipped is that Rudues thought he got Roxy pregnant so thats why he was sorta forced into marrying her

So, this episode had a lot of content cut. The anime makes it seem like little time has passed since Paul's death, but it has been many days Rudeos was depressed, he was locked in his room and hadn't eaten for days (that's why he looks malnourished, and so on) The group had a conversation about Rudeos' condition because they were worried that he wasn't recovering, so during that conversation they came up with the idea of ​​someone sleeping with him to try to help him, they wanted elinalsie to do it because she has experience in helping people like this, but obviously because it was family she refused to Roxy then decided to do it on her own without telling the group (which is why elinalise is surprised to have understood what happened) So Roxy didn't simply take advantage of it out of selfishness The next day when Rudeos wakes up with Roxy, Rudeos practically confesses that he is indirectly reincarnated, and the reason he was so depressed was because he felt like he failed both families he had. The light novel scene was much different. Geese suggested someone sleep with Rudeus & even went as far as suggesting a brothel but they all said that’s a bad idea. Roxy took it upon herself to offer her body to Rudeus who obliged. Elinalise only encouraged Rudy to marry Roxy and that’s because there’s two things that the anime didn’t emphasize like the light novels. 1) although Elinalise is Slyphie’s grandma, and she cares deeply about her, remember that Elinalise hasn’t known Slyphie that long. She met her for the first time when they met at the magic school 2) Elinalise was previously comrades with Roxy. They once traveled together and developed an honest friendship More or less, many, many factors contributed to make sort of a “ends justify the means” type scenario. Elinalise loves Slyphie, but she was also great friends with Roxy so when Roxy was depressed about Rudy being married she sought out a solution that made everyone “happy” lmao. Combine that with polygamy being “normal” in their world, & the story makes sense. Plus Rudy was described as much worse in the LN’s. He wasn’t eating, he barely slept, he was grieving hard for Paul & Zenith so everyone was really worried about Rudy. This doesn’t make what happened good in any shape or form, but if you examine the chain of events as a whole, you can understand how everyone arrived at their conclusions

In Elinalise defense, she is Roxy's bestfriend before she a sylphie granny. She traveled together with her like for some idk, years? so even though sylphie is her family, not everyone can have that instant deep connection toward 'sudden' family. So I still respect Elinalise for being the third party to encourage polygamy just because she care more for Roxy

So this entire episode is contentious among LN readers since they cut out a lot of context especially with Roxy and Rudy. Rudy has been like that for I believe 8 weeks and Roxy found about his family prior to them hooking up. Also in LN Rudy was the one who initiated the act itself although Roxy did go in there and had anticipated that it could happen.

It’s kinda wild how much the anime changed this event/interaction from the novel. It completely changes the vibe and outlook/portrayal the audience feels and sees (when compared to the novel)

Some context left out from the LN (This ep was wild, a lot was cut off/change): First of all; Rudy had not been eating for at least 2 weeks. He himself admits that he has lost count of the days in the LN. He only drank some water when someone came in to talk to him and ask how he was. The situation had gotten to the point that they had a meeting to talk about him. (It was at this moment that Roxy was told about Rudy's marriage) At this meeting they discussed how to get Rudy's morale back, so that they can return home and secure Zenith (Let's remember that we are in a very hostile place; the continent of Begaritt. And that the journey in search of the Greyrat family lasted 6 years. They are tired) Geese told the others that he heard that sex helps depressed men. And asked Elinalise. She confirmed, but she doesn't want to do anything since she has Cliff. They suggested taking him to a brothel, but Elinalise said it has to be someone you know and trust. They even proposed that Lilia could try... Discarding the idea immediately afterwards for obvious reasons. Concluding then that he would recover on his own, perhaps waiting longer.. But Roxy thought back to the moments in the village of Buena when Rudy was scared to even leave the house. Rudy is more fragile than everyone believes, and she decided to try to help him... At the beginning, in fact, it wasn't her plan to go to bed with him, just to cheer him up. Maybe convince him to go to a brothel. (She has a very strong inferiority complex). But the provocations led Rudy to take the initiative. Then the trip itself has no cut content, except in the conversation with Elinalise where she lies to Rudy to marry Roxy... Telling him that she hasn't had her period in the last two months and that she could be pregnant. So to take responsibilty. This decision, however, does not happen random. Let's remember that Elinalise, before discovering that she was Sylphie's grandmother, was Roxy's adventure companion for 6 years. And they even considered each other best friends. This part, which afflicts Elinalise a lot and she doesn't know which side to take, is completely cut... But after reasoning about it she concluded that he could marry both. But the most important thing is that you have to remember that this is a fantasy world, where polygamy is something normal, unlike ours! I know it's hard to see without bias, but to make you understand what made Paul a scumbug was that Zenit was a Millis believer and she believed in monogamy! So they actually changed a lot. - - - - - - - Rudy was wayyyy more depressed in the novel, almost reverting back to his former shut in self. Barely ate and mostly js drank water. Seeing that, Elinalise, Geese, and the dwarf talked and encouraged Roxy to do the deed with Rudy to get him out of his deep depression. She was hesitant, but went through with it. Instead of Roxy taking the initiative, it was Rudy himself. I don’t wanna say more cause I’m not sure if it’ll be elaborated on the next episode or not.

My take on this is people should really stop applying real life society values and morals into an anime where what we consider wrong and illegal is a fcking tuesday in theirs. It was better explained in the LN tho. All of this was Elinaliese’s plot. Also first and foremost, Roxy, along with everyone else, wanted to HELP Rudy. Rudy was basically killing himself slowly, though it wasnt obviously shown in the anime. Dude face is the face of someone who has not eaten for a very long time, and all things considered, sex is a stress reliever. For what its worth, it worked(?). Lmao. Dont get me wrong tho, Rudy definitely cheated here. But eh, i personally expected Rudy to marry Roxy eventually, though not in this form of developmemt where it is rather super depressing. Just a detail that was cut: Rudy was without eating for several Days before the Roxy scene (that's why in the desert journey back Rudy fell tired and had to have Roxy help), she was getting desperate because everyone else decided to just leave Rudy alone instead of trying something, then Elinalise suggested that move could help. They made a mistake, they know that, but they love each other and will leave the final decision to Sylphy since they only will be together if she was ok with that, which its kinda obvious she will since she said so before already, but yeah, we need to wait for the final episode.

I think ya'll are missing that Rudy didn't just look like that because he was depressed. He was literally starving himself. Elinalise and Geese were wrong. He was not just going to get better. As fucked up as it is for Roxy to come in and be a homewrecker it also kinda saved Rudy's life. That's all I gotta say.

Regardless of the ethics of what happened in the moment of Roxy and Rudy sleeping together (Anime or LN version) I'm amazed that any of you were surprised at the prospect of polygamy. Not only was it insanely obvious that it was going to happen or at the VERY least be touched on it's been showed multiple times in the series that it's relatively common practice especially amongst high profile members of society. Let's also not forget that polygamy outside of western countries is not that uncommon even in the real world and it's becoming more and more common around the world as religious beliefs start to fade away in developed nations. The cheating in the moment part is bad, yes. But the reaction to Elinalise telling Rudy to marry both of them being met with "that's trash, this episode is trash" really put a sour taste in my mouth personally. I get it, personal opinion and all that, but the lack of even an attempt to understand what is going on and detaching your own personal morals from a fictional world is something I can't personally understand. Everything happens within it's own context and that seems to have been forgotten this episode. Not everyone has the same beliefs.

In the books there was a better buildup to this whole mess. Rudy has basically locked himself in for almost a week. He was really beginning to turn back into his old self again, refusing to leave or do anything, just mourning. The advice to do the.. "thing" came from Elinalise. She said she would do it herself, but she knows Rudy has no feelings for her, so it wouldn't amount to anything. That's why Roxy was basically "forced" into this situation. Not that she disliked the idea. Still a mess of a situation but it gives more understanding for Roxy's and Rudy's situation even if it's only a little bit.

This episode makes a lot more sense if you've read the novel, but the TL;DR is that: a) The party discusses the situation a lot more, proposing to have Rudeus sleep with either Elinalise or a brothel girl to clear his mind. Roxy gets mad when Elinalise refuses if it could help Rudeus, and then she ends up finding out about Sylphy and their unborn child. While the others thought he would recover, Roxy alone knew from their time in Buena Village how fragile he was despite all his talent and strength, and that he needed someone he trusted to be there for him, just like how it had to be Sylphy to cure his ED. b) It'd been around a week since they did the dungeon, and he hadn't eaten since before then. He could only answer in one-word responses and after a few more days he would likely end up dying from starvation. c) Instead of just Rudeus shouting at her, Roxy further explains how in her first party, a guy she looked up to almost like an elder brother died protecting her. She acknowledges that while it can't compare to the loss of both parents, she understands the feeling of losing people you care about due to your own mistakes. d) It's Rudeus who advanced on Roxy after she suggested that she's open to sleeping with him. Roxy's embrace was the first time he'd felt comforted since Paul's death, and that, combined with depression and frustration from making the same mistakes from his past life, made him advance on her. e) The next morning, he tells her a " made-up story" that was actually his past life, telling her about all the mistakes he made with his family in both lives. Roxy says that there's nothing he can do except keep moving forward for their sakes. There's a lot more discussion, but Roxy ends up pulling out of his depression for a second time, which is what leads him to start falling in love with her, along with her basically being his left hand for the return journey. f) Despite him falling in love with her, Rudeus was still planning on leaving Roxy, until Elinalise talks about how Roxy would be depressed for the rest of her life, would probably end up getting taken advantage of, as well as the fact that Roxy told her she hadn't had her period. It's all of that which eventually makes Rudeus ask her to be his wife.

Fr, light novel readers be acting like this is normal, I was feeling the same way throughout the whole episode.

I think people exagerate the "He needs to ask for Sylphie's permission" like, not shit? obviously he can't just say "I marry Roxy and that's it", no matter what level of a POS Rudeus is, there's no way he is avoiding that conversation unless he literally just ghosts Sylphie and lives elsewhere with Roxy. Right now he needs to think about his resolve and to talk with the person who is currently with him (Roxy) instead of thinking much about the inevitable as it is not like he could do anything about it right now.
