Thank you for talking about this. Hope you find the right pattern soon. I made the Vogue 9008 for a friend and she loves them. She bought the fabric for a trouser suit today and I will use 9008 as a template for the fit. I have the Flint shorts by Megan Neilsen but I haven't made it yet.. It has two front pleats and the front opening through the front pocket (no zip). There is a size 14 - 30 Flint curve.
I've made the chi-town chinos (the name won it for me 😉). My favorite pair are the shorts in a stretch woven with a bit more stretch. They ended up very low rise on me, so I'm looking elsewhere for the future. I've also been looking for some pants patterns and have been disappointed at the lack of size inclusivity. I've messaged the pattern designers to ask if/when some of their sizes will be extended. I'd prefer to make patterns that are available to more sewists!
Theresa, I saw that your video were you are looking for pants patterns too. I need to go look at your comments and see what your subscribers have said. Thanks for the heads up on the Chi-town chinos. I think I'm going to take a pass on that based on the rise, don't need no muffin tops here. Some of my comments have the Glissando from Love Notions so that might be an option. I too was very surprised on the lack of sizing for pants and shorts altogether. some of these pants patterns have been around for a while! Surprised they haven't released them with inclusive sizing.
I made the Dani short from true bias.....wow wow wow...love them....going ro make me some more.....there is the glissandos from Lovenotions ......it's an awesome pattern and has extended sizes....and a full belly front that can also be used
V9008 is a great pattern I made view C and D also the Pietra shorts also like pattern emporium vacation vibes palazzo shorts they are very comfortable.
I've made the Vogue shorts and like them, but need to size down as they are too big. That was earlier in my sewing journey so not sure if it was my error or the pattern runs big. I have the S9549 and plan on making them this summer, also the Pietras. My TNT shorts are the Love Notions Allegro Bottoms. They are elastic waist but have a faux fly and cuff option which elevate them. They also come with pant & skirt options.
Have you looked at Love Notions Glissando? I've got this in my queue to try, so I don't have personal experience with it yet. I thought the size range looked pretty good.
I understand I usually have to alter my patterns as my hips are 42 waist is 40 so it’s hard I’m in between or to big in waist for a lot of patterns . I have actually made my own pattern from the pair I got at the store that fit good .it’s easier.
i have never pattern tested so take my views with a grain of salt. but i think it's probably hard to get people to test pants patterns because often the designers want you to make the designs without modifications. i have never encountered a pants/shorts pattern that doesn't need any mods to fit my body and often they need a lot. so i would imagine the investment on the part of the tester is higher than with other types of garments b/c you might have to make a version without mods and then at least one if not more versions WITH mods so that the finished article actually fits. also i think the expectation of the customer can be unrealistic with pants b/c someone inexperienced might expect it to fit out of the packet without adjustments when the reality is that is a very rare thing to find.
Agreed with all of this. You can make adjustments to fit your body on pattern tester (how can you not!!!) but if you want to change the design that’s a no no! Which is hard because heck I look at a pattern and I’m always changing something. Always! Pants testing would be very hard and I must say every single pattern testing has an issue with it. A missing notch, a dart pointing in the wrong angle, a bodice that is way too long. I really can’t imagine testing pants.
I haven't tried any of these, kind of new to sewing pants. I have the Linden shorts and skirt pattern from Sew a Little Seam, but I haven't made them yet. They go to size 28, so you might want to check them out.
