I learned it's better to accept new changes in New media rather than expecting old things in remakes to stay the same and just try something diffrent I feel it's better that way so that I don't take disappointment so hard..thanks for the video

How is combat improved? It look awkward and in the bad way. Combat in the original was bad amd it understood it. It was never action oriented and was treated like a punishment or an obstacle. This game tries so hard for combat to look "cool" with this camera shake and exaggerated animation and brutal takedowns. But it just looks goofy and out of place

Keiichiro Toyama - director of the 1st game, left after the 1st game, went on to make games like Siren & Gravity Rush, his new upcoming game is a horror game called Slitterhead 2. Masahiro Ito - background and creature designer, worked on SH 1-3, famously known as the creator of Pyramid Head, one of the two members of the team that Bloober brought back for the remake, very active on Twitter too these days though you should be careful not to annoy him or else he'll block you 😅 3. Takayoshi Sato - CGI creator, worked on SH 1 & 2, famously known for working on the 3D cutscenes SOLELY by himself, took him nearly 2,000 hours to complete, and during much of this time period the schedule would be so demanding that he would sleep under his office desk 4. Yeah, some people in the comments act like if Kojima was a huge character in the development of Silent Hill games. The man barely even made ONE Silent Hill game.

There's no reason to change Angela's design, there's no reason to get rid of the fog, there's no reason to put meek facial expressions on Maria, again you're messing with a cult classic, that's a cult classic for a reason and if you're fundamentally tinkering with it and changing it whilst calling your reimagining a remake we are going to have a problem. The job of graphically remaking games should be the easiest job in the world, you already have the plot, the characters and the overall design set up you just need to re-create it in higher graphical fidelity. That's all, nobody wants these folks to reimagine popular classics or bring in new writers to change the plot, we don't want the original experience replaced by something inferior, we just want it remastered, you know?

@@liquidsnake6879 i do agree with some of your points and i know Silent Hill 2 in specific is a delicate game to be making reimaginations, but that's also kinda the thing about Remakes, unlike Remasters they have the freedom to make a few changes in character design or even level design, yes they could just leave it all untouched but sometimes risks can result in something interesting, the best examples would be Ashley from Re4 Remake being totally different from the original, the Ishimura from Dead Space Remake being fully explorable instead of being linear and everything about Mr. X from Re2 Remake If i'm gonna be honest my biggest worries are how the combat is going to play (cause oh boy if a lot of RE fans are going to think this is an action horror game) and hope the puzzles stay the same, including the ones that are almost impossible to guess

@@MultiKamil97 Sadly remasters tend to be too lazy, like upscales and stuff like that, i've very rarely seen remasters that actually update the graphics fully, with new shading, new textures, new models etc one of which is Metroid Prime Remastered. But those kinds of remasters are the exception rather than the rule. In general i think that's what people really want, nobody asked for these kinds of re-imaginings of beloved games, we already like them as they are, we never asked for someone to come in and re-imagine them. You do that with games that sucked, not games that were hits and are beloved classics you know? The line between Remaster and Remake is still very blurred in that way, because of the laziness of remasters. To me that's the whole question, who actually called for a remake/re-imagining of Silent Hill 2? Or was it that people called really for a proper remaster and Konami chose to interpret it as a call for a remake?

Exactly. I feel like those are gamers who've never played the original because if they did, they would know that Angela isn't supposed to be pretty. Maria is of course but Angela isn't of those female characters that is meant to make people attracted to her or something. She's been put through hell, her dad molested and beat her. If they keep this up Bloober won't wanna remake SH 1, 3 and/or 4... Neither will any other studio. It's coming out day one on PC and its a UE5 game... Why are they hating, Bloober NAILS environments, these haters have a beautiful foundation to easily make the game they want if they are really so unhappy with Bloober and Ito's vision. There is no reason to not cheer on Bloober and hope they are successful enough to make a remake of 1, 3, 4 and maybe even Book of memories... Ive never personally played the orignal games but god damn ive been invested in this before they made the announcement to this game

I see this comment a lot. I've played every game in the series multiple times, 2 and 4, especially. I'm one of the 10 people who played that dogshit diablo clone book of memories. Even then, it was mainly for the soundtrack. I want a good silent hill game i even liked downpour, but remaking 2 and removing the camera angles (which was an artistic choice by team silent in the OG), removing the sexualisation of Maria the whole point of her character being a made up version of mary james wished she was, even in the cutscene cinematography shown in the footage we have is the bog standard pan on character talking switch to different character talking (like fallout 4 for a reference) the voice acting somehow being worse than the HD collection redub, the voice acting in the original also added to the atmosphere and dreamlike vibe the game has. Look at interviews with james OG voice actor he even says as much. What this looks like is homecoming with somehow worse graphics and models. The jury is out on gameplay and could be less clunky than homecoming or just as bad. I don't blame bloober team they clearly wanted to do the camera angles and be a updated version of the OG they did it well with the medium. It's more konami meddling with them not understanding the game and overruling anyone making the game who does.

I agree. I have no issues with angela's face. Just in comparison to the body something is off. I think it has something to do with the fact that she just doesn't have much of a shape. There are no curves like she is skinny but the face doesn't match that so there seems to be a disconnect in that way. Not body shaming because I am sure it exist in the world its just not the norm so I look at it and it just feels off. Stangely outside the graveyard cutscene she loos okay. Its just in the graveyard cutscene it seems off. Also alot of people had mention it just seems like less care was put into her model then other models which could probably be felt as well.

I'm so glad I'm not crazy. I was thinking this exactly. Like maybe her head is like 10% larger than normal? And the model is a bit lower res somehow. Idk what it is, but I still love her design and can't wait for the game.

I've been a fan of both RE and Silent Hill since they first came out (the first two of each mostly) I'm actually expecting a Silent Hill 2 remake from Silent Hill 2 remake, I guess we're not all "braindead" after all. If I'm going to bring up RE, I would want the SH2 remake to be made with the same love and hard work that was put into the RE1 remake where Capcom expanded on the original and added slightly more without it coming across as a cash grab or rushed like the other RE remakes.

Angela's eyebrows do look like they were drawn on by a kid with a sharpie. Hair doesn't seem very detailed either unlike James', but that could also be due to video compression muddying things up. In the scene where her and James are in a dark room and she's telling him he shouldn't be here, her face does look more detailed.

I personally love what they did with SH the message and how the fog itself is phenomenon now that can go anywhere. Other fans hate it. They just want the game to stay the same forever and this remake is trying to do something slightly different.

Same. SH2 is my all time favorite game. I am so hyped for this. I was only a little sad at James' original face but this one they went with is perfect imo. The graphics and everything looks outstanding. There's nothing I'm seeing that looks bad and the crazy hate and, honestly, conflicting complaints I'm seeing is wild to me.

You're mistaking a remake with remaster. This is a REMAKE, the changes to the plot and to characters and locations design are absolutely expected in a remake. In remake the story is meant to be the same but there is more freedom when it comes to anything else. Just like in Karate Kid remake. Instead of a Japanese and white, American boy, you have a Chinese and black, American boy. If they just improved the graphics, it would be just a remaster. Take a look at Mafia remake. They changed many things but kept the spirit of the original and it was freaking amazing remake. I'm sure it will be the same here. They will change a lot but many things will stay the same and we will have a balanced new experience.

Indeed I agree, dear space was pretty much a 1 for 1 remake and it bored me. Resident evil 4 was a perfect remake that changed a good amount but kept the spirit of everything.

They've changed the story, made the whole game open-ended, reworked all weapons, rebalanced enemies too, added random encounters, changed bosses, gravity sections, added new stuff including lore, ending and some unlocks, free roam... Gosh you're as petty as SH fans rn. And unlike you they're right because Remeke tonally ruined many things that were important (everything dreamy, James to be tired all the time, character who embodied lust now being nice and regular, added scene w Angela to remove the contextual part of the Abstract Daddy and leave no place for the interpretation ("tell him I'm good please" moment which was into the face explanation), janky fight system, first monster meeting being less scary, and removed the Mary's spoiler censured talk from the radio, James being the normal guy instead of the broken man he was, even with the way he talks, "press X to do the thing"and tons of scripts bc "zoomers are dumb", while in the og James moved his head to the objects you had to use, and a lot of other inferior changes tbh.

There is much more casual players nowadays and you can't expect the studios to make the game as hard as it was back in the day. In Morrowind for example you had to follow the directions that NPCs gave you. In Oblivion they already gave you a compass with an icon where you're supposed to go. I don't like the games becoming easier and explaining everything to me either but I understand that it's absolutely necessary for the new players.

As someone who has played every Silent Hill many times silent hill 1 5 times Silent hill 2 11 times Silent Hill 3 25 times Silent 4 2 times silent hill homecoming 1 time and silent hill downpour 1 times Trust me I am A real fan. I have written many walkthroughs and never published them. I don’t care about any of the looks and designs, I think everything looks great except Maria. Yes Maria is a sub conscious manifestation of James, because if his sexual frustration with his wife. That’s the entire reason Maria exists. That’s my genuine critique. I am Not understanding why they are making her look so modest when her entire point, the only reason she is in the game, is to punish James for his hidden sexual frustration. However really that’s a big problem but it’s my only problem I have seen. I think everything else looks great. I like the gameplay and the graphics. I am Going to play it. However that definitely makes me worried. Why do they think “modern” people are offended by skin when literally just look Instagram and tik tok. It’s pretty obvious “young” “modern” people absolutely are not offended by over sexualized imagery. However again I will give them a chance to explain it and I hope they do. I think her clothing getting ripped during her being killed over and over could be a really smart way to expose James for his hidden desires. Also making Maria a more complex version I think is great too. However I find it crazy people don’t expect fans to be critical when this is probably the most sacred game out of all the silent hills. People still play it today as the best silent hill. Personally my favorite is Silent Hill 3 but Silent hill 2 is almost tied with it. Anyway I just hope the changes don’t change the essence of Maria because she was made that way for a huge reason, to punish James, just like everything else is the game. That’s why this is such a psychological horror masterpiece. From Maria to red pyramid thing, to each characters side stories it was a masterpiece. So when you change things too much you Absolutely rightfully could upset true fans. However one last time I will say the graphics, the atmosphere, bringing Akira back, the gameplay all looks super awesome.

Maria still looks sexy and stands out, she's just modernized instead of wearing a 90's outfit and the nurses, as Fermi said, are wearing short skirts and cleavage is displayed. I don't know why you don't find Maria's redesign sexy. Maria wasn't even 'over sexualized' in the beginning - her skirt wasn't crazy short and she had a long sleeved button-up. She didn't even have cleavage showing in the OG :/ You saw her tummy and that was literally the most revealing thing. I would argue the black dress she's wearing IS sexualized.

There is literally 3 new Silent Hill games from Konami out/coming 🤣 It's not a cash grab, it's just a remake of a classic. Silent Hill 2 has a port, the HD collection and you can also play it on PS2 or emulate it. Don't like the remake? Don't buy it. We will be.

Absolutely. It probably is amazing and should get overwhelmingly positive if it’s good but silent hill fans will review bomb it because of something little like a certain character design. The nurses are no longer sexualized and I hear some people are freaking out because of the lore. In RE4 remake they made Ada Wong less sexualized and nobody cared, So they are just being fussy. This looks good and Bloober team is independent so you can’t expect it to look as good as RE.

I told him my stance on preorders and how I thought RE4 was the last semi decent preorder with the chainsaw controller and case for it. The day after the release of 2077 he saw the reviews and told me and I ask him if he was happy he saved the like $80 for preorder and he said yes because of how unplayable it was. I am atleast glad Blooper and Konami have pushed the game back a few times. The fact we can actively see them making changes as a response to the fans is a good sign. It shows Konami is finally learning we will wait for them to let the developers polish the game and that they understand this is probably the last olive branch the fans will give them after all the post team silent games. I am still very wary about Blooper executing the subtle themes of the game. Blooper is great at making pretty games but when it comes to tackling serious subjects like mental health I just look at The Medium and I am scared. They started out strong but the ending was garbage. And they said that game was inspired by SH2. They need to understand that no matter what James killed Mary. The only thing that changes is how he addressed what he did. Whether he accepts he did it or keeps denying he did it. If he did it out of mercy for Mary and end her suffering or to end both of their suffering. This is how the post team silent games failed. They didn’t give a solid this character did this and the town is making them go through the trauma. Like Downpour concept wise was exciting, but they fumbled it. The way they set it up the guard he did or didn’t kill was more than likely going to be attacked and killed. And the way you got the different endings felt shallow. SH2 it was about how you played, not what of the two choices you were given did you choose. You could still save someone but it not be because you care but because you could use them to help yourself. SH2 it matters whether you take care of yourself, if you focus on trying to find Mary and not truly caring for Maria more than you would if she was a true stranger, whether you reflected on Mary’s letter. It made you treat it as more than a game. And I am afraid of that being forgotten and putting the weight of the actions the original focused on into black and white choices.

Meh. Re3's issue is that it's too small and they didn't spend enough time on it. Can't see that being a problem here as Blooper actually wants to make this and isn't rushing to the next title like Capcom was.

@@JewTube001 Remake 3 problem was that it tried to change everything that made the original good. There’s almost nothing good in there besides graphics everybody agrees the original is better. The first warning was changing Jill, the second warning was how linear it was.

Fans created their own canon to why things are they'll way they are so when things change even just a little it feels like an attack on their intelligence. But little do they know almost everything we know about the messages in sh2 are things the FANS made up. True or not they ironically created their own hell

I generally agree with your point, but here Maria's outfit is an illusion created by James mind. The fact that a developer can't show a female belly scares me more than silent hill.

And exactly this kind of attitude and downtalk, how a "real" woman has to look like, brought this backlash. That's why Stellar Blade excelled and SH 2 and others fail. Just beeing close to DEI or trying to message any of it, is the kiss off death. Most fans don't want to buy some political message and so one studio after studio fails in search off the legendary "modern" audience. By the way this uglification hits only the females, the dudes stay hot, if that isn't intentional, I don't know.

I'm a hetro guy who likes attractive women but I don't need every woman I see to be a sex object. I can go while without without needing a waifu in a game at all. I do totally get your points/arguments and I appreciate your comment :) it was a solid rebuttal to my points. I think its the two extremes of people hating any remake and others saying ''consume'', I sit more in the valid critique is good/fine and hate the toxicity.

That said, I would much rather side with "negativity" than blind, or should I say "toxic" positivity. When I say "toxic", I don't mean people being liberally positive or optimistic. I think it's great to have optimism and excitement and to hope for the best. But it becomes "toxic" when fans cannot tolerate dissenting opinions and begin to silence criticism under the veil of calling such dissenters "entitled". The former encourages studios to strive to be better, the latter breeds laziness and cutting corner (if done overzealously and is not rightly earned by the studios). But more importantly, I'm just tired of seeing this antagonistic behaviour other "gamers" have for each other. Again, not to say it is baseless, but as with all things on the internet, it is dialed to 10. I come from a law and finance background, so I love engaging in discourse, so long as their is respect and understanding between the parties. That is all seemingly lost nowadays (at least as far as online discussions go). The Silent Hill subreddit is the worse form this toxic positivity; a complete cesspool of Konami meatriders who employ some impressive strawman and ad hominem remarks to shut down criticism. It is mindblowing how much people on that sub HATE anyone criticizing the remake, chalking everything down to entitlement, bigotry or misogynism, purposefully distorting and misconstruing opposite arguments. Absolutely insane. I would like to think I share a similar stance to yours, but it's incredibly hard to discern the behaviour of people, and what constitutes as "toxicity" in this day and age. But I've waffled on enough. It is good to see you are positive about the remake though, and it's always great to have youtubers like you show excitement for a series that has otherwise been left in the dust for the past decade. I hope the remake is successful and that you can cover the game more in-depth when it releases.

Lifeblood? They just hate watch footage on youtube, it's more of an anti-industry than the lifeblood of it. "engage in a bona fide discussion" how tf am I suppose to do that when you guys ALWAYS open up with negativity, condescension and insults? I've been a SH fan for over a decade and you guys have always acted like manchildren it's pathetic. There's never been any discussion, just pre-conceived hate for the entire franchise bar one or two games made by team silent. We're not blind or naive just because we want to see the franchise come back, like if it were up to you guys you'd leave the franchise dead and buried forever because nothing will ever be good enough. We just want to get an attempt going so at least they'll be a chance of something good happening - I don't know why that's so difficult to understand?

@@JewTube001 I get the sentiments you're expressing. Yet at the end of the day, these same "haters" are still part of the lifeblood of the industry. They still buy games. They show an interest in the hobby. These are all *potential* consumers for a business, the last thing you want to do is antagonize these people and drive them away. I already mentioned this: yes, there will ALWAYS be trolls and "haters" who exist solely to hate on games, who exist for attention and clout and love to do nothing but be contrarians. But the fact remains, these people are few and far in between. If there is a noticeable divide in the fanbase, with a large number of people showing discontent and anger towards something, then there is definitely something that is eliciting these reactions from the people, and not just people being entitled manchildren. This reminds me of a quote that Justin Truman, general manager of Destiny 2, said at GDC 2022. He says that the anger of fans is not equivalent to hating a game, rather it is "two degrees off of loving a game", because both love and anger come "from a place of passion of the people that actively engage with what you produce". And the thing that every developer should fear instead, is apathy; that is the thing that can kill you. But I digress. The point I'm trying to get at, is that the people say who "just hate watch footage on RU-vid", are FAR LESS than people fans who are interested in the game, whether they hate or love what is being made. You just see them more often because that's just due to the proliferation of the internet. These "true" haters have always existed, the advent of the internet has just brought them out of the woodwork. As for having bona fide discussions, I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. You are entitled to believing whatever you want to believe regarding the GAME. Having a bona fide discussion doesn't rely on what you think about something, all that matters, is that you are willing to listen to the other PERSON even if they say things you don't agree with and try to understand why they are saying it. You see the distinction? And look, I get you, and I agree that many of the people you've met are very verbal and often quite negative about what they say about the remake. But what I have observed time and time again, is that these people are very specifically being negative towards a game, rather than towards each other (and the fans who like it). I have already said this, yes, some people are POS that love to hate on the fans too, but most of the genuine "haters" I've encountered are vocal and emotive about the remake specifically. The difference between these haters and the "fans" is the latter see that the former is being negative, and THEY are the first ones that jump to insults and ad hominem remarks. I meant what I said when I said the Silent Hill subreddit is a cesspool of this kind of behavior. I have seen legitimate, fair concerns and criticisms be completely straw-manned and posted for karma garnering thousands of upvotes. It's one thing to be upset and negative towards something intangible like a videogame, it's another to start throwing insults at someone else because you don't like what others are saying. And this is a behaviour I have observed in the "fans" of the remake, then I have the "haters". And as for there never being any discussion, it's quite simple. If you want a productive discussion, you have to step in and start asking questions? Why does someone hate something? Why do they not like this new direction? Why do they care about x,y,z etc. Like I said, negativity towards something matters very little if both parties are willing to hear each other out despite what they believe. Saying that one person is "overly" negative, to avoid having any discussions with them, and then saying there is no proper discussion, does not do anything but cause further chaos in the fandom. It's surprising how despite being a fan for over a decade, you fail to find nuances in the situation we have at hand. Yes, there are definitely manchildren that exist as you described them, but it would be also very easy for me to point my finger at the other side and call them brainless idiots who are allergic to any criticism/negativity. This back and forth is never-ending. It's why I said discourse is dead. And lastly, I don't think wanting a franchise back is being naive. Believe me when I say I would also love to see this franchise thrive, but saying "nothing will be good enough" for the elitist fans is a bit much, no? Especially if you've been a fan for a couple of decades, it shouldn't be hard to understand exactly what some fans are peeved about? So there's nothing difficult to understand; I just don't think you're saying anything I haven't heard or mentioned already. Also the "hate" for the franchise does not exclude just "one or two" games. Every single game worked on by Team Silent from 1-4 is beloved, even 4 with all it's flaws. Every single game past that has been lacklustre that never reached the highs of the Team Silent games, and you know that this is an opinion held by even the diehard fans of the remake. Shattered Memories was probably the strongest entry since 4.

Questions and criticism is fine, I encourage it, like I said in the video. Constantly complaining on Twitter over every facet of a game is sad. Play the original if the remake isn't to your standards or tastes.

That sounds awesome. A better dive into the other world. I love the difficulty options and as far as encounter with first creature, I wished it was at the same spot like the original.

They were James dead bodies, they literally had his clothes, it was stated by the games creator.

I do agree, assuming that that's still part of the narrative, if Bloober have changed it, it won't be necessary. However the backlash would be wild. I personally think she will lose clothing and become seductive/obsessed with James as he loses his sanity.

Kinda, ultimately Team Silent was Silent Hill not Konami. I hope the game sells but personally I never understood the desire for a remake. Sorta reminds me of the Psycho 1998 remake, whats the point if we already know how it ends.

Well who do you think is gonna buy this game. The casuals or the fans and fanatics of Silent Hill 2. If you can not win those people into buying this game the game will fail. Just look at Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth the second game barley catch 50% of the first game and even that is not sure and that because they changed way too many things most importantatly story.
