I just discovered that Julia Louis-Dreyfus line was written for her after she rejected the first line they gave her. Just shows what good writers can do under pressure.
I miss Letterman so much. Watched him every night growing up. Fell asleep to his show which gave me a sense of comfort even if I had to wake up for school 5 hours later.
I am guessing she probably wasn’t up to it and hadn’t been on the show in years, but having Teri Garr do one of these would have brought the house down. She was one of his regulars on NBC and their chemistry was outstanding.
Bill Murray has always looked a little bit like my father, but as they’ve both gotten older the resemblance has increased, albeit with my Dad looking a few years younger in general, probably because he never drank or smoked. Anyway when I saw Bill Murray coming out at the end of this video it actually freaked me out enough to do a double-take, freaking out for a split-second because I was seeing my dad come out from backstage and not Bill Murray. He looks that much like my dad at this point.
Four are big NBC stars: Baldwin, Seinfeld, Louis-Dreyfuss and Tina Fey. Six if you include Rock and Murray with their big starts on SNL. Dave was sticking it to NBC to the last day.
I think Dave just genuinely liked these people. They were all comedy titans. (And he's friends with Peyton). Their NBC connection was just a coincidence (and proof that the network has a great history of grooming great comedians).
He knew about it. She had a joke that she didn't like so she requested another joke and they came up with while Jerry was standing there. He said "that's good." lol
Bill Murray would have always been #1 but I agree Robin would have been there. He probably would have replaced Payton Manning who was only there because Dave was a big fan.
@@WickedLiquid I think Peyton stays as David Letterman is a big fan and the crew knew it. Out of all 10 celebrities, Peyton was the only one that Dave was really starstruck and tongue tied here.
@@WickedLiquid Bill Murray would've still been number 1 because he was Dave's first guest but Robin definitely would've been number 2 and would've have a more raunchier joke for sure.
Its very funny, swear to god I've never seen it before but one of those people should have been Norm MacDonald, just because of the amount of times he was on, the actual personal stuff they talked about (Norm being fired from SNL) and how they were friends and even as Norm has said in the past David Letterman was like his idol. And he told that to Dave as well and they spoke about a lot on that show.
Norm got his own special last episode, which was better than this, in my opinion. He got to do a one-on-one lengthy tribute to Dave all to himself and it was very touching.
@@hutch1197 And has one of the greatest bits that Norm ever wrote and performed. Letterman laughed so hard that you could hear him even though his microphone wasn't on!

What most people do know is that the Tonight Show premiered in 1954 when Bill Murray was only four years old, and he wasn’t on it. And since it’s still in production, there hasn’t been a last episode for Bill Murray to be on…yet…. But thanks for playing Nilsson!

I missed Dave Letterman. Nowadays, the humor in talk show revolves around politics. It has stopped making fun of the most trivial things in life, or celebrities crazy life.
