Director of Interpretation Jake Wynn will share stories from Private Peleg Bradford’s Civil War letters which are on display at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. Bradford was wounded at Petersburg, and wrote home about his amputation and recovery process. His letters offer an excellent window into Civil War medical care.

Miracles do happen on the battlefield. My great uncle landed on Omaha beach with the 29th infantry. He volunteered to serve as a reserve to break out the 506th PIR in Bostogne. After the breakout he was wounded crossing an open field by a German sniper. He was gut shot and had a golden ticket home. When the sniper shot him he fell backwards but several yards ahead of his position a German mortar round landed right were he would have been had he not been shot. Decades later on his deathbed his one last request was meeting the German sniper who shot him, he wanted to kiss him square on the mouth for saving his life. Thankfully the shell landed and missed everyone else too. He made a full recovery despite missing a foot of bowel.

I hope it's ok if I share my story of seeing Civil War soldier boys walk in front of our Ohio farm when I was a boy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fTWMz2xrnrQ.html
