Of course! Again I have to agree 101% with you. You are completely right. "Cos when u know how to fight, u know how to respond to the situation." This is exactly what I was traning at my school today. And the psychological matter is very important also. If you get nervous you can't get to apply the drills that you practiced well when you were calm.
I'm pretty sure, that if you try him, or any Sifu in his branch, you'¨ll change your mind quite fast. LT certainly knows what he is doing. Here in the west people people constantly think in terms or competition, rather than working together and develop. Leung Ting WC is different from other branches, but neither good or bad - it is you that turns it good or bad.
Sparring with a muay thai fighetr helps for sure. Or sparring with any other fighter who is fighting back. Most wc classes have guys who practice moves against a compliant partner who falls over willingly. This type of teaching is dangerous cos it deludes students into thinking they can now knock down an attacker with these newly learnt moves. But when they find out real live opponents actually are a lot tougher and fight back, the wc guys are lost cos they dont know how to respond.
Of course! I agree with you. We can't compare a situation of real fight to a situation of competition. They are different. But it is better to try to apply the drills on competition to be prepared to real fights than to just practice with a simulated oponent who stands willingly for you to do with him what you want. I don't need a better WC school at all. I'm completely sure that my school is the best WC school, at least on country that I live. It's called "Applied WC". We apply it.
I agree. I also train wing chun but at my academy we apply it. We test wing chun in real fights and I'm honest to say it's very different than just trainning the basic drills of wing chun. In a real fight everything happens very quick, you don't have time to think, you need to act. And the psychologic matter is another component. It's pretty hard. I say that because I'm doing sparring with a fighter of Muai Thai and he doesn't kid, he goes hunting my head all the time. It's hard defeat him.
womblewandering there is a very logical explanation on why someone would prefer wing chun over muay thai. Plain and simple wing chun has a directness that is so difficult to defend against. I happen to know for a fact that a lot of wing chun men have done very well against Muay Thai. The principles of Muay Thai are not exactly bad but it is bad against the principles of wing chun. The centerline principle is unbelievable when you have a true understanding and the sticking is for a reason
Leung Ting's Wing Tsun is awesome, but to put down the other lineages is just stupid. There are things to be learned from all the different lineages. Leung Ting has a lot of controversy surrounding him and his actual connection to Yip Man but his skill and style can't be argued. When Yip Man died there was no successor named and all the 1st level and "closed door" students went nuts proclaiming themselves as Grandmasters and that how all the different Wing Chun, Wing Tsun Ving Tsun, The Real Wing Chun and all the rest started. Loads of drama but still a fun style.
I don't see why anyone would need to defend it actually. Anyone who tries a good school will be hooked. Too bad 99% of all schools are incredibly bad quality.
Its amazing u have taken both MT and wc and yet, came out with the conclusion wc is more realistic. In a real fight, people dont stick to each other like wc does. No one is compliant like wc guys. Muscle memory? I think MT and boxing have better muscle memory. Hey, if u prefer wc, go ahead. I prefer mt and boxing cos im talking from experience.
ichbin. u sound like a wise person. Anyone knows that a competition fight and a real fight is not the same. But as u said, its the best way to prepare for u for a real fight cos at least the person in the ring is actually FIGHTIN BACK. If wc students dont think ring fighting is real then they might as well stop sparring. Cos sparring is even LESS intense than ring fights.
In mma, u can punch, kick, elbow, grapple and knee. But for some reason, wc guys dont think this resembles anyting like a real fight simply based on things like u cant "eye gouge, kick balls, strike neck". But before u even think about eye gouge and neck strikes, at least prove u can win a fight by punches and kicks for gods sake cos those are a fighters most basic weapons.
@Limey9003 @Limey9003 yes i know eye gouging and kicking nuts cause a lot of pain in self defence. i too would do them. I would also punch throats etc. But pls bear in mind that the only difference between ring fighting and street fighting is WHERE you hit, not HOW you hit. Also, if you think boxing and muay thai are simply brawling, then i dont think you know much about those arts. You would be shocked to know it is far from brawling.
Who is this person at the begining who is saying: "Kung Fu is unforced skill, otherwise is bad. You don't move-I don't move, if you move-I move faster. In cross of combat you can't feel with your eyes, You have to be your eye on your finger." I'm really interessted in knowing this, so please help out if you can.
No. It's just terminology. Leung Ting has developed his own way to teach wing chun and he has changed some things claiming he has improved it. Just that.
@ATRXXRTA i thought he sad good kung fu is forward skills, but anyway the old guy is 石堅 or kien shih, he was in bruce lee's movie enter the dragon as the main villain
shiest. One can choose whatever martial art they wish. wc , karate, muay thai, boxing etc. all cool. U prefer wc, i prefer muay thai and boxing. respect
Emin is a Student of LT. Like Victor Guiterrez... Anyone can beat up an 80 year old man, even an 80 year old Grandmaster, simply because the body doesn't stay young. People really need to begin thinking more rational in these matters. I've see a 10 y/o WT girl take down an adult college bully. It works for small people too...
But you learn wc and spar with real live opponents so its cool. I respect wc anyway as any martial art. Any art can become effective if used right. To me, many people dont realise what true self defense is. In my view, its not simply about learning "this move, that move, this move". Its more about knowing how to FIGHT. To use ur fists and feet effectively. Cos when u know how to fight, u know how to respond to the situation. When to punch, when to kick etc.
please i want to know.. is wing tsun the 'extreme' version of wing chun? i know master leung was also trained by grandmaster yip man but... i think leung's personality is too rough & loud compares with gm yip man. hmm.. i kinda like wing chun more. from my observation, wing chun is presented in a very respectful manner. (besides getting 'b**** slapped' hard on the cheek) :P
........... ...........Dont take this the wrong way. Im not getting into an argument with you. Just a friendly debate ok? I know some people get all personal over this and then start swearing and stuff. I respect all martial arts anyway as im learning more and more. I made those comments about wing chun quite a while ago but i have changed since then. I respect wing chun too. keep in touch buddy. ;)
have you actually seen Gary Lam's crap chi sao in the video against a student or the one where William Cheung get's beat by Emin Boztepe? Real Wing Chun is with Yao Lik energy in chi sao and using the body mottos - which most people dont understand, dismiss or dont know about.
If the system works - good. If it doesn't... then is doesn't. Try it it out for yourselves and make your own evaluation, instead of just sit in your chairs slandering everything you see. As students we can learn from each branch. There is never one branch better than another. There are only bad students.
Chinese masters do not really teach kung fu to their sons its against tradition. Even Bruce Lee didn't learn the whole system from Ip Man. Leung Ting knows a lot more than most of Ip Man's students. He just doen't actually teach what he knows. He's money maker yes because that's what Chinese are about the business, but he is no fake. Im not biased because I'm not even part of the WT organisation. You can see just by observing that he has good kung fu.
I see no evidence in this video to suggest that Leung Ting is a master of anything. Edited videos and student actors. He is terribly uncoordinated and inept. And as always, Kernspecht is watching his teacher's flailing very closely. What a joke.
Azért 60 év felett is simán tudja használni a Wt-t ,ami az erős fizikai erőnlétre épülő küzdő sportokról/harcművészetekről, azért nem igazán lehet elmondani.Persze ez most csak az Én véleményem!
Pathetic. Leung Ting gives every practitioner a bad name. He loves the money more than the system. The shifting is weird, the punches are far from decent and they like to break their own legs with all that body mass on one leg.
I am a 12 yr old? lol. I love it when u chunners call people 12 yr olds just cos they dont like wc. So a person who loves wc is over 12 for sure? I have plenty of reason to be sceptical about wc but im not going to discuss that with u since u have shown an immature charatcer by insulting other people.
yes i know many special forces learn wc. But thats not the only art they learn. they learn a lot of MT, kickboxing, boxing, bjj too. Anyway, since u insulted me further by using swear words, it shows how low of a character u are. I respect u but u dont respect me. Good luck in ur fighting
