Today I am building a rocket example that would make a good "Level 1" certification build.
I show how to manage a sloppy fit on the centering ring, tie a good knot on the shock cord, and manage internal fillets the easy way. I made a few changes along the way to show how a kit can be customized. I topped the project off with custom decals from StickerShock23. Enjoy!

Great video as always! Thanks for the shoutout. I am always willing to share my failures so that others won't make the same mistake!

Another big mistake I made with my level 1 build that I don't want anyone to repeat: After I epoxied in the middle centering ring (I had three on my LOC IV kit), I thought it would be a great idea to put epoxy around the joint between the centering ring and the motor mount tube. Unfortunately, I did this before I put the fins in. Once the epoxy dried, it made a lip so that my fins would not fit flush against the middle centering ring. I had to do quite a bit of sanding on the fins so that they would fit flush. It was really aggravating and time consuming. DO NOT MAKE THIS SAME MISTAKE! 😠

I used your technique for RocketPoxy fillets on the 3 inch, 29mm rocket. It is over 40 inches long, so I will be launching it on H and I motors. I have a feeling this is going to be a good flier. It has 8 fins, which means 16 fillets. I left the last 8 fillets tape on too long which made them a little rough. I used the Dremel and removed enough RocketPoxy to eliminate a lot of sanding.

Sounds great! Now you have me guessing what rocket that could be with 8 fins. Ok, I give up, what is it?

Enjoyed the video as I've had this rocket sitting in the basement for the last 6 years untouched. I am interested in the upscale of the fins. How did they perform? Did you happen to publish a template on TRF or anywhere? What you described made sense. While it won't remain at scale - I can only assume the flight can be improved. Thanks for your series of videos. I'm L2 but I'm always learning and picking up from others - like your videos.

I traced the original fins to a poster board and then added about 1". I then cut out the poster board and held it up to the rocket for a go- no - go fitting. I am planning on flying the rocket in May. Thanks for your comment!

For the attachment and securing of the eye bolt can you change out the regular nut for a nylon lock nut?? Also using flat washers on each side of the bulkhead.
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer 21 день назад
Yes, a lock nut and two washers sounds like a good idea. Good luck with your project! I will publish a video soon that shows this Patriot launch.

I'm happy to follow your video, but I have a question and I hope for the answer: how to define the center of thrust of the rocket, before it slips into the fuselage of the mini rocket ??? please answer
@TheRocketeer
@TheRocketeer Год назад
Center of gravity and center of thrust (CG/CT) can be determined with Open Rocket, a free program. Go to the "Video" tab on my home page and look for several videos I did on the subject.
