Went for Nidoking, and since my Rival got a Bulbasaur a Nidoqueen. I'm low on cash, but have 2 pokéballs going to try my luck at the ivysaur too with the 2 remaining pokéballs I have before I'm forced to move forward in the game. P.S I figured since I'm playing Red I'll test the weedle. With a lvl 3 weedle encountered a voltorb, and with a lvl 4 weedle encountered nidoking.
This glitch works because the game considers you as having initiated the trainer battle, and you are in a state of entering a battle. So when you re enter the area the game forces you into a battle, and for one reason or another the data for this battle corresponds to the stats and conditions of the last pokemon you fought. The special stat corresponds directly with the hex identifier data value of the pokemon you encounter, i.e. if you found a pokemon with a special stat of 1, you would encounter a level 7 rhydon, which has the hex id of 1. The attack value also corresponds with the level of the pokemon, but not in the same way, obviously. Rather, the game reads the pokemon's attack modifier instead, with a value of 7 being the default, and by lowering it by 6 stages, it returns a value of 1 and you encounter a level 1 pokemon. So therefore, if the wild pokemon used swords dance 3 times, this value would increase by 6 to 13, and you would encounter a level 13 pokemon upon returning to viridian forest. Also, the reason some pokemon can only be growled 5 times is because after 5 growls, their attack reaches 1, and the game prevents an underflow into the maximum possible attack stat by nullifying the growl Edit to address the leveling issue The experience underflow glitch only works with pokemon from certain experience groups, with Nidoking being from the medium slow group. Because level 1 pokemon are impossible to recieve normally, the experience groups were not created with level 1 being taken into account, and so the necessary experience for a pokemon in these groups to be level 1 was never properly implemented, so when you recieve a pokemon at level 1 from this group, its experience is actually at a negative number, and when you gain an amount of experience that would not make this value become positive, the experience updates as it realizes the value is underflowed, and sets the value to the maximum amount of possible experience points, and adjusts the level accordingly.
ah nice explanation for how the stats influence which pokemon you get. i always prefer to understand a glitch, instead of just mindlessly copying it. thanks!
the reason they leveled up to the next level instead of going to 100 is because they need less than the amount required to level up, your voltorb and slowbro only needed 7 points to level so in order to go to level 100 they would need 6 or less
The Medium-fast exp group is the only group to lvl up via under flow exp. This group require less total exp to level to 100 compared to medium slow & slow (i.e. dratini). The “medium-fast” group are: - All 3-stage evolutions (except Caterpie & Weedle lines) - Mew When you glitch anyone of the medium-fast Pokémon to lvl 1 their exp points will read 777162. The Pokémon needs < 54 exp to level up to 100.
You have to have experience underflow to level to 100. Ex: your slowbro only needed 7 experience points to level up to 2. You gained 13 with the win. You need fewer than the level up amount to get the glitch to work.
@@Cardmonger it was at the beginning of the game before you even make it out of the Viridian Forest you can do the long-range trainer glitch and battle your rival before the Elite Four entrance. Battle your rival and use growl on his Squirtle 6 times and that will give you a Gengar
I like how you explain glitches here on Pokémon very simplified for me to understand Growl x6 on a pidgy to unlock a level a 100 nidoking Now I gotta rebuy all my Pokémon games and game boy color Pokémon red blue and yellow are my favorite games Generation 1 Pokémon Shalom dove 🕊️ of peace ☮️
Two quick things: One, because the Pokemon you encounter due to this glitch is based on the last Pokemon you encountered, you could skip the step of encountering a new wild Pokemon before re-entering the forest, and just go straight back to the forest from your white out, to have the glitch Pokemon be based off of the wild encounter that caused you to white out. (So, like, encounter a level 5 Metapod, let your poisoned status eventually knock you out, then rush straight back to the forest then and there, to have the glitch Pokemon be based on level 5 Metapod.) This would also have made testing out Caterpie encounters a little easier. Two, your Bulbasaur didn't dodge any of those Leech Seed attempts. It was simply unaffected, because grass Pokemon cannot be seeded. That's been a rule of Leech Seed straight from the start.
Oh, and a third thing: For your bonus entry? The crash was probably because you were stacking two glitches. The "last Pokemon encountered" when you watch the Old Man's tutorial is actually not level 5 Weedle. In order to have the trainer who's battling the Weedle be Old Man instead of the player, the game needs to store the player's name somewhere, so the name can become Old Man, then restore the name to the player's name after the tutorial is over. It does this by converting the player's name into hexadecimal data that is stored in the "last Pokemon encountered" slot.
On your first point you mentioned of just running straight back in; I don't think this works (or at least it didn't for me) and instead you just go straight back into the trainer fight that you initiated. I believe you do have to encounter something new in general just to get a "wild" encounter for the glitch.
Isn’t there a way to get a level 100 Gengar as well? Or is that Yellow only? I think it’s worth it just to get the low level Electrode/Voltorb. Not too many electric Pokemon in the game and it could be hella useful. Also getting a level 1 Slowbro means that you can trade it off to the one trainer in game for a level 1 Likitounge. Since the Pokémon always end up traded at the same level.
I enjoy learning about these glitches. Really cool content. If I could offer some advice from a viewer's perspective though, I would suggest editing more. As a viewer, there's no reason for us to see you use growl over and over and walk from the grass to Viridian Forest, etc. Not trying to be rude because I think the concept for your content is really appealing, but I think you could market your content a lot easier if you worked on making it more concise and digestible. Keep the glitches and your explanation, but cut the amount of excess footage that isn't really necessary to get the point. Again, I like the videos, just trying to offer a tip. Keep it up!
Thanks for the feedback! I considered trimming the extra parts out but I wanted to keep things as authentic as possible if that makes sense. I'll keep that in mind for my future videos though
Certain Pokémon are grouped as “medium-fast” meaning the amount of exp points needed to level up is shorter then slow-fast like dratini. Any 3-level evolution Pokémon (except bug and dragon types) and Mew are “medium fast” Pokémon group, hence Nidoking ‘an under flow glitch to lvl 100!
Late reply here but the trainer in viridian forest *can* become inactive and won't initiate battle anymore after doing this glitch once. Happend to me after catching lvl 100 nidoking.
There's another glitch that I know of that you should do because I don't fully remember how to do it. Last time I did it was when I was a child. But it is a way to catch Mew. No it's not that fake thing with the truck got the SS Anne. You are able to catch it just outside of Lavender Town. The most important step was that you had to avoid battling a very specific trainer directly after Pewter City but before Mountain Moon
not sure if you found this out or not but only pokemon with a medium-slow exp curve can be glitched to 100, thats why voltorb and slowbro level up to 2 instead of 100
I have trouble with starter glitch. Anyone know a way of using this glitch to get more starters? I was only able to successfully do the glitch 1x so I used those two starters to transfer to my blue so it has all 3, but I gave myself an abra so I could try to get other Pokémon in its place.
Not quite sure if I’m understanding your question completely, but you should be able to use the starter glitch twice so you have all three starters. Your way should work too. What’s the issue you’re running into?
Starter glitch won’t register in the Pokédex due to different IDs. Just progress in the game using ditto glitch with Kadabra for: Bulbasaur (153) and Squirtle (177). For Charmander (176) use underflowed Blastoise / Ivysaur lvl 100 or Alakazam
@@kevykangoegaming I think it is possible to try with pikachu if it is the random pokémon encounter when stepping in front of the trainer, and using growl on six times before allowing it to beat us. It just may be too time consuming as Pikachu is one of the rarer pokémon in Viridian forest.
I couldn't repeat it ...why?I was able to get a lvl 100 Gengar. After catching the gengar, the trainer doesn't prompt for a battle anymore. He let's me walk right past him as if we already battled... what am I doing wrong.
Happend to me as well. Best bet is to wait until you reach a specific trainer thats in the grass on the left side after crossing the nugget bridge. You can do the glitch multiple times here. You're gonna need an abra and use teleport by pressing "start" the moment you walk into view of the trainer to initiate the glitch.
Idk if I’m being dumb or what but I’ve done the glitch entirely down the finest point but when I get the lvl 1 Pokémon it doesn’t have mad exp it’s just lvl 1
I remember when i learnt this glitch i was getting lv0 nidoking.. to get it to lv100 it needed to not gain too much xp.. if it gained enough xp to get to lv1 it will go to lv1 If you dont get enough xp for the lv up then the game glitches amd gives you infinite xp giving you lv100
