does a white wall can give the same solid background colour or it must use neutral grey to achieve this solid colour background?

white can work

Hi Dennis, many thanks for making this video. In your shots, are you using one or two lights for the background? Also, what kind of neutral grey backdrop are you recommending. Lastly, what are the disadvantages of using lights to "color" a backdrop vs using a colored backdrop?

Hey Jacob, thanks for the comment and the questions. In those shots I am only using one light indeed. Sometimes two lights can give a more even look but it works with one as well and I wanted to make that point so I stuck to one only. The grey backdrop is not any special brand, I just ordered from a photography store here in Germany. They are all fairly standardized in terms of size. This one I have is 2,72m wide and I just used a wall mount (also just anything that has good reviews on amazon) to fix it up. There are tons of colors for those backdrops and any neutral grey will work really well. Disadvantages: Well, it is difficult to make a really saturated color in the background without it also being really really bright, because you need to increase the light output to do that. I guess that is the only real downside. Of course there is something to having the wall really being that color that is maybe hard to pin-point or describe. But for me the fact that I can change the "wall color" with a dial in an instant is insane to me, such a great benefit! Hope that helps, God bless you my friend!

@@talkingheadfilmschool Thx for the detailed answer. I'd assume the small Aputure MC RGBWW isn't powerful enough to light a background as shown in your video though? Is there a way to determine if a light is sufficient to fill a backdrop of 2x1.5m?

A Skillshare email suggested me this video, thank you Dennis. ( now subscribed to this channel ) Question what app did u use at 0:37 to see the color wheel opposites? definitely will look into achieving this affect for some future interview setups.

Hi Dennis, what lens are you using for this video? Would you mind if I asked you the distance from the camera to you in the shot while you're sitting at 1:04?

For sure, I believe it was my 50mm lens and I guess I was about 4-5 meters away from the camera. Could also have been the 35mm though. :D

kind of crazy how the orange light just makes the wall itself look orange

Thats the thing! And you can do that with any color - really helpful!

I couldn't help but notice that your voice seems kinda flat and monotone, I feel like after a while my mind just kinda tuned it out. I think it would really make your videos pop more if you played with different volumes, tones and stuff like inflections in your voice. I am saying this as someone who knows nothing about youtube just really thought your video was great and I want ot help you in any way to grow
