Good comparison on some of the basics of the four most advertised check-thru's at this time. Personally, I have not taken a check-thru with me on a business or personal trip in over 10 years. At that point I had two massive Briggs and Riley and there are two things that I liked about them that I don't see here... 1) Scratch resistance. None of these lightweight plastic polycarbonate style bags appear to be very scratch resistant. I've seen a few scratched and dented 'Away' bags at airports and they certainly don't look like the Instagram influencer's demos! Especially as these are check-throughs and not carry-ons they are going to accumulate a ton of scratches. 2) With Briggs and Riley I could use a special tool to unscrew and replace the wheels if necessary. This came in handy one time when one wheel did develop an issue and I didn't replace it as much as I moved one of the lesser used wheels to that side as it was the side that one uses when one pulls. A lifetime warranty is great but unless I can get instantaneous on-site repairs it's simply a major snag in my travel. If L8 has this ability I would be curious. Otherwise I will stick to my carry-ons. I've actually traveled months with a single carry-on and then the few occasions I've needed to stay in one place longer than that I would pre-ship a monster bag. When I hear the word luggage I simply hear the word LUG. Thanks for the video however, I'm sure many people who still travel with check-thru's will appreciate this comparison! Personally I sometimes wish zippers could be replaced with the old-fashioned latches as they get so much more abuse. I am actually surprised that you could move the zippers around such angled corners on this demo as easily as you did!

How in hell does a person go months at a time with a 20 inch carry on? 😄

you will need to find a laundromat and wash every week. Also travel with merino wool stuff which stinks less. :)
@IntriguedLioness
@IntriguedLioness Год назад
@@minhsao In my experience 100% merino wool does not shrink if handwashed in cool water and can go days without a wash if necessary as it is naturally antibacterial and antiodor. Wearing a merino wool sweater is one thing but learning that merino wool undergarments and socks are just as practical can really save on packing for longer travels.
@IntriguedLioness
@IntriguedLioness Год назад
@@tomd4748 once you get used to the style of packing you will never know another way. One needs to utilize the newer synthetic fabrics and I am a huge proponent of merino wool, including undergarments. Merino wool dries quickly and is naturally antibacterial and anti-odor in case you need to go a day or two before hand washing. For handwashing I always travel with a small bottle of Dr. Bronner‘s all purpose and I utilize something called a “scrubba”… Before then we consummate travelers often used any airtight dry bag as a portable wash bag. One should never wash one’s clothes in a hotel or hostel sink as basically you are just cleaning the sink with your clothing. Just wash up a few pieces every night before you go to bed and you’re ready to go. I always carry a length of paracord but there are also newer travel clothes lines that do not need clothes pins and pack smaller than the size of the palm of your hand. Like I said, it can be done and once you know the freedom, especially if you start using a 40 L (at maximum) convertible bag which has back straps you will pity people lugging rolling luggage through an airport. Never mind climbing stairs to your wonderful Amalfi coast pensione, transferring between trains or even traveling by night ferry through Southeast Asia… The freedom of disposing with those silly rolling luggage cubes is basically what travel is all about to me. Happy travels!

How did it hold up over the time? There are only first impression videos on RU-vid to find. So hard to really see if the suitcase is really that durable as they say it is

LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is NOT THEIR luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q-gLsegazCs.html Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4NfX2W4DN7E.html These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon. Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees. Tie to the base of the handle, tie to the metal buckle. Thus, it will not slip along the handle. Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers. Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape. You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case. Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle. Learn Half Windsor knot tying: It is the 2nd example in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X0yh5rKB9lE.html This knot does not loosen. Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie. Example: “Owner 454-333-7878” No personal name necessary. No address necessary on the ribbon. Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color. Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece. Tie your backpack, skiies, duffel bag, carry-on, and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case bag. If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself. Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible. Pleasant color combinations: Red, white and blue Chartreuse and purple and orange Orange and light blue Orange and yellow Gray and pink Green and yellow Red and Green Red and Gold Light blue and light green and white The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan Tip #2 PICTURE RECORD Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. Take a picture of the interior. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it. You can show this picture to the searcher or attach a picture to your report for lost luggage. Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights. Tip #3 INSIDE IDENTITY Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape... To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape. Tip #4 HIDDEN IDENTITY Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show. Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS Use 4 ribbons Add 1 designer ribbon colored duct taped handle Stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2” or smaller stencil letter or number or word or your initials to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray the BOTTOM OF THE CASE as well. Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon. Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”. Put a travel sticker on the case. Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE It is less than $15. Tip #7 GPS TRACKING DEVICE Duct tape to an inside pocket a GSM GPS Tracking device. Find them on Ebay. Your iphone can tell you where your luggage is. Is it in another city? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qJkUSNIBsP0.html HomingPIN tracker ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V96ADrVzhys.html Gego Tracker ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EI0ARnEqq-w.html Worldwide Tracker ...GSM, Wifi, Bluetooth USB rechargeable Tip #8 OLD TAGS, YOUR ITINERARY Remove old trip tags before you arrive at the airport. Remove confusion. Put a copy of your trip itinerary in an outside pocket so the agent can redirect the bag. Ask the travel agent to send you copies. Photograph all travel documents using your cell phone. Tip #9 FLIGHT SAFETY Put laptops, cameras and jewelry in your CARRY-ON. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fQLIwVXa3oU.html Tip #10 LET LUGGAGE FOLLOW YOU Choose non stop flights. Choose connecting flights of at least 90 minutes so luggage has time to be transferred to the next plane. Compare white luggage destination tag city code to your itinerary for accuracy. Tip #11 TAKE SCREEN SHOTS OF THESE TIPS Store screenshots in picture album Then share them with your friends. Include the Tube Video seen here also. Tip #12 PHOTOGRAPH THIS Passport Your travel plan Vaccine Passport Hotel confirmations handwritten by you. Your luggage, inside and out. Include unusual words spray paint stenciled on luggage by you. Show a close up of ribbon colors. Your destination luggage tag, bar code tag Receipts for payment of trip. If you lose paper versions, you have a backup. Passcode lock your cell phone in case it is lost. Tip #13 LUGGAGE DESTINATION TAG Check the accuracy of the white luggage tag code against your itinerary. You may be sending your luggage to the wrong city. BAGGAGE THEFT VIDEO ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4NfX2W4DN7E.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-42PXCXBw7GU.html Tip # 14 AVOID these in CHECKED baggage ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oPPQzu84ahc.html Tip #15 IF YOU SELL LUGGAGE Include a set of 3-4 ribbons, 14” long, with the sale. Consider tying them on for the customer. Sell an extra set for the hand carry piece. Tip #16 CODED NAME LUGGAGE CALL No need to put your name on luggage. OKOBAN System by Travel Sentry ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nNxwAgSkySQ.html Tip #17 Send pictures of passport, driver’s license, itinerary, et cetera to your e-mail address. If you lose everything, you have a back-up. ……

@@jstanovic I do use a backpack and it fits under the seats. So remember this bag is not a carryon bag . So in the airport I only have to push it to the check in counter and not around the terminal. But even if I have to it is like a shopping cart and still works well. Check out this short and you will see what I mean. I think the biggest con of this luggage is the large handle. I like putting my carry on on top of my suitcase so the fact that I can’t do that with this is a big con IMO

I have put my 20 inch Roadrunner carry on on top of my 26 inch Voyageur and it is pretty secure imho. The shape of the Voyageur makes it possible.

Thanks for this review! I'm thinking of getting the 26" L8 Voyageur as well or the Monos Medium (a set). I already have a L8 carry on and have been happy with it, but I've only taken it on one trip. My question is checked baggage usually gets a beating when flying/on a cruise, etc. and having to check your bag. How has your Voyageur held up on trips . . . any dents, excessive scratches? Thanks . . . Chris

Hey, I'm actually looking for a suitcase that will fit some tennis rackets as well! I noticed in the video it looks like your racket just barely fits to where it won't really lie flat at the bottom. Is there enough room to safely put a racket(s) in where it won't get damaged when the bag inevitably gets tossed around by airport staff, or is it pushed right up against the walls asking to get damaged? If so do you have any experience with other bags that aren't enormous, but still fit a racket? The Monos medium dimensions look super close from what I can tell... Thanks!

Sorry I do not... the Level8 worked well for me. and I love how it pushes around in the airport. ru-vid.comaWpav0zg2fc?feature=share. but for short travels I just carry my racquet as a carry on. Good luck.
