@@b.r.i.e The best way to come up with a command like “settle”, then walk over to the dog to make them sit while saying it. Positively reinforce with treat when they sit and quiet down. Eventually they’ll associate the word with being quiet as a good thing. Hitting the dog will only send mixed messages and stress it out, leading to aggression/paranoia and all sorts of other problems. A scared or stressed dog doesn’t take commands well. You want to reward successfully lowering its energy with a one word command at regular volume
