LEVITATE - TWENTY ONE PILOTS | REACTION + BREAKDOWN 

This is a story that has been years in the making, even though we’ve had a lot of time to decrypt everything, no one knows the full story and the true meaning behind everything other than Tyler and Josh, and they’ve never come out and said if we’re right or wrong. Like for example we still have no idea who Clancy is, we just know him from the letters. So I don’t expect you guys to understand all of it. Also the ending is kind of a proven theory that Tyler goes through a continuous cycle of escaping dema, getting rescued, and getting captured and brought back.

You don’t need to apologize so much for not understanding - it’s some really complicated and confusing stuff, we only know it so well because we’ve been getting it bit by bit for years. It’s really fun to learn about it and figure it all out, though! If you’re really interested in understanding the Trilogy, I’d look at The Pop Song Professor. He does a lot of videos explaining twenty one pilots’ music, and he did a whole series of videos explaining all the Dema lore and whatever. And in regards to the meanings of their songs, it really is supposed to be up to personal interpretation. That’s why Tyler never explains them very deeply, and has specifically stated that he doesn’t like to, because he wants us to be able to find our own meaning and inspiration from them, as he did in creating them. (Also, don’t feel bad about not getting all the lyrics, they move pretty fast and they take some thinking to even make sense, hahaha) Love your reactions, keep it up!

I don’t know if you caught the “car radio” reference in “levitate” when Tyler said “I got back what I once bought back In that slot I won't need to replace” and in car radio he said “'Cause somebody stole my car radio And now I just sit in silence” how cool is that! Plus I still find it hilarious that somebody did steal Tyler’s car radio out of his car in college and he was able to turn into this amazing metaphor.

Clancy is meant to represent us, the audience. We are seeing the story through Clancy's perspective, but Tyler isn't Clancy, because in one of Clancy's letters he describes what happens to Tyler in the Jumpsuit music video as a bystander.

Ok guys . One more time ) So heavydirtysoul is the prequel to a big storyline. In this video blurryface aka Nico (main bad character/Tyler's alter-ego) is driving Tyler to Dema (city with prison in TOP universe) while repeatedly trying to kill Josh (drummer/ Ty closest friend) who is trying to stop him. At the last minute Tyler takes control again and saves Josh. Now some people believe the car also represents the whole blurryface album and it blows up at the end to symbolize the end of the era and beginning of Trench era. The order of storyline is: • heavydirtysoul • jumpsuit • nico and the niners (+ heathens) • levitate. So in video nico and the niners (after Jumpsuit where Ty tried to escape from Niko, but was eventually caught - Niko took him back to Dema, where bishops keep all the "banditos" in custody) Ty is planning his escape (symbol of it - yellow colour and this flower in the beginning, from the end of jumpsuit). In the end of this video - he unexpectedly meets banditos who got out but did not left him and come to rescue Ty. "We win but not everyone will get out" - you can understand this after "Heathens" music video that also goes as part of the story.

There is a channel named "the pop song professer" he is a big fan of twenty one pilots and he explained every song and music videos by them, so if you really interested you can watch his explanation. The hard thing is what no one can explain it how it meant to be right, the band said every time what you can imagine whatever you want in this story, but this professor can be right

I really like how you guys trynna get into the story and everything, that's cool. We know that lyrics and videos are confusing af 😆, but that's what makes it interesting, people getting together and trying to understand what does the lyrics mean and all that.

There’s a couple of youtubers that explained Dema pretty good-one is gingersheep. Tyler and Josh wanted to have an album for their real fans, not one for the top forty crowd.

Basically, at least to me, dema is a representation of mental illness, whether it's depression or anxiety doesn't matter, but in dema the bishops rule and represent those struggles. Whenever tyler is in dema, he is controlled by his fears until he escapes with the help of Josh. Thus maybe suggesting that friends and family can help you get better. However, just like it is with mental illness, it comes and goes, and tyler is captured again and again. The help of friends and family can only get you this far, you have to go the rest of your way yourself. Through the trenches. So Trench is this place between mental illness and healing. This back and forth fighting yourself basically. And what it implies to everyone affected by mental illness is that, yes you have to fight it yourself, but you're not alone and there are people who will always get you back out of dema until you make it all the way out of Trench.

It's a trilogy, it just loops over and over and over again. If you see in all three videos at the end he's always getting dragged back to Dema. And yeah, don't feel bad about not getting all the references. Trench was a concept album for true fans. It had the Clancy letters, the website, the cross references with the previous albums. Even the "East is up" line from Nico on the niners has something to do with the album cover from a previous album. There's a lot to take in, really.

EDIT: Nico is blurryface, dema is his (tylers/clancys) "dark place", and the banditos are his friends and fans constantly helping him get back. So, his demons pull him to a dark place, we help him get back. OR, we're clancy and OUR demons pull us to dema and OUR friends and TOP help US out of depression. dude everything about these guys is complicated, even the fkn band name has a deep meaning (it's from a play where a aeroplane techician fucks some parts for a bunch of planes and is faced with the decision of keeping quiet about his error and hoping for the best or admitting to his faults, he goes with the first option and as a result 21 ppl die in plane accidents). Also the O with the / in it (called NULL) that has been in their name for ages, from before even the blurryface album???? Yeah the guys who came up with that were a group of 9 mathematicians trying to prove god's existance with maths. They had a collective pseudonym, and that name was NICOlas Bourbaki. That name is mentioned in their song Morph. Morph is a lot about religion actually. MAN you guys should react to videos where someone explains ALLLLL this shit cuz there's just so fucking much and it's absolutely insane. Search for "who is nicolas bourbaki TOP. Y'all. You'll be fucking mind blown. There's also an old general called Bourbaki who did mistakes and ppl died cuz of him. He tried to commit suicide to get away from the consequences of his actions but failed. (-: Literally, Tyler just puts out a bunch of mind fuckery.

Tyler is giving you the tools to fight through your darkness. Everyone is supposed to hear a different story, one that applies to their problems or internal fight.

It’s hard to catch everything on the first watch and listen to it’s understandable, I feel like you should pull up the lyrics on the side to help you out or at least catch what they’re saying. Lol. The fans have been following Twenty One Pilots and the whole storyline for years so you will get it eventually. At first I was confused too but since I hard all their albums it was easier to catch metaphors or references to things from their previous work when the Trench album came out. But they have other songs where you get the message right away it’s juts this trilogy that needs more decoding. Plus heavydirtysoul was a prequel to all this which is sooo cool because that was the last song and music video released from their Blurryface album and jumpsuit music video from their Trench album started at the same location they left off. Both albums were years apart so Tyler and Josh are geniuses who literally thought about everything years in advance.

Also a good thing to checkout about them is how they update the story through their concerts. ex. They updated the part where Tyler says “WAIT” everyone in the crowd went silent and one of the niners appeared and looked around the crowd (the music was giving away the banditos *us* location)

What I got was that he's trying to escape his insecurities, but he knows that he needs to feed them and keep going back to them because that's where he gets his creativity for his music. And in Chlorine he does literally feed his insecurities chlorine. Even though it hurts Tyler, he knows that he needs to feed it poison, to feed his own creativity.

The theme, aside from Tyler escaping and re entering his depression, is 'a car, a torch, a death.' Which is a song title from their first album.

Clancy is a character on the Dema website only. He wrote letters to describe life in Dema, and his attempted escape from Dema. We know Clancy is not Tyler or Josh as he witnessed Tyler, Nico, and the banditos, as the Jumpsuit video unfolded. Clancy was important as a narrator; he was just there to give us the backstory. Without the Clancy letters we would be as lost as you both!

I love watching them trying to figure it out bc it reminds me of all the clique trying to do it together and I kinda miss it 😂

Tyler mentions Vultures in pet cheetah too. They’re on the roof. It’s likely the vultures represent his ability to give into his mind and music industry. They are referred to regularly in their work.

First video of the trilogy shows a burning car, second one shows a burning torch, and this final one shows a death. They have a song called "a car, a torch, a death"

Levitating is the only way out of Trench. You escape from DEMA into Trench, and from Trench you need to levitate to escape for good. You only levitate with support, "a little help." You can only over come your depression with a very good support system.

Dema is Basically Tyler’s Depression so he is trying to escape and the Bandito’s are People who have also gone through depression (Escaped from dema) The bishops are Insecurity’s but In a form things that put you back In that Dark state of mind and that’s when Tyler or Clancy gets Grabbed by the neck. It's actually a loop, I understand the videos like 'Jumpsuit' is him trying to escape his insecurities and depression but finally getting caught by this state of mind; 'Nico and the Niners' is like Tyler struggling to get out of this state and lastly being "rescued" by his loved ones; and in 'Levitate' he's "celebrating" getting out through the day but when the night comes and you have to be by yourself he falls again in that dark place. That's my interpretation of course, I could be wrong. Nice reaction dudes!! Also I had to watch guide on RU-vid to understand the whole dema thing, and I'm still lost lol

ToP stuff can be hard to figure out. ESPECIALLY without the lyrics. I suggest you guys pull up the lyrics with any songs you listen to. That's what I end up doing, sometimes it helps sometimes not. Haha! "Morph" is a good one to go to after this one, as it has to do with Dema and references Nico. It's got a great beat and a great hook. :) "Trees" live version (especially the Fox Theater one) gives you a good feel for their concerts and "Guns for Hands" is one of my favorites from them, which talks about their want to help their fans.
