I grew up in Levittown Long Island New York -- suburbia. I made this series in part to present the experiences that I, and tens of millions of others, had back then with the hope that younger generations of Americans could understand us better. As of 2023 i am a snowbird living with my family on long island in the summer and in trinity fl in winter for school and job reasons

The kid on the tricycle at 0:25......what he is wearing was the "uniform" of all kids of that age in the 50s and early 60s.......the vertical striped pull over shirt, the denim blue jeans rolled up at the bottom. I looked "exactly" like that kid

Inkey...you are exactly right...and those striped shirts were known as "polo shirts"...(about 50+years before Ralph Lipshutz-Lauren used the brand name polo for his clothing line)...and I wore many of those shirts over the years as a youngster!

The 1950's had it right. Its too bad the enemy was out to destroy them!

My Parents grew up during this time and they said it was nothing like this for them. So to a fairly large part of the population this is a myth!

Dear Future4you - Your parents are correct. As I point out in my series, actually over and over again, about one third of the 80+ million baby boomer generation lived the “60s” as described by me and others. I explored in the series of those who did and those who didn't. Thank you for your comment. David Hoffman-filmmaker

That is the parent's fault. Why the fuck is a dad buying his 16 year old a Lexus???? The way they raised those children, this is how they behave when they grow up.

Here's the thing, *every* generation complains about the next one. Some people just never handle aging well and they get bitter about young people and how things are different today. And there's always a young person who'll try to impress older folks and say they defy their own generation. In reality, they're just creating a negative stereotype of other folks their age so that they look better by comparison. I'm glad this clip highlights how people were critical about Baby Boomers at the time. Being nostalgic can be good but it's never an accurate picture of how things really were back then. I'd also say Levittown has a known history of racism. Even Long Island today is the most racially segregated place in America. That offends peoples' sense of nostalgia. But it's an important thing to acknowledge.
