Levon Helm - When I Go Away - Tarrytown Music Hall - 3/24/12 

My wife and I were there. A magical moment for all concerned when Levon suddenly jumped in on the second verse. Notice how every band member's head suddenly jerked to stage left when Levon started singing. It was like Levon suddenly found some reserve in the tank, knowing that he was close to the finish line, and decided to go out "bound for glory" that he sang of in this song. RIP, Levon. Thank you for all of the wonderful music.

It's 2023, and I'm crying.

Not sure how such a sad song can make feel so good when I listen to it. I suppose that's the genius that is/was Levon Helm.

Was at The The Ramble in January with my wife Lisa. Stayed in a brookside B&B in Woodstock. Perfect. Was still high from it when we saw he would be at Tarrytown in March. Got tickets.Dinner at "Santa Fe" next door, and another great concert. The guy exhuded humility, yet he was/is larger than life. Levon left it all on the stage and gave all he had.I'll never forget it and him.

Levon, I was not ready for you to go away. You still had so much music to make. I have been listening to you since '69 and will never understand why such a beautiful soul has been taken away.

I always cry when I watch Levon's final performances of this song. I just love this song and Levon (from way, way, way back to the 60's).

God damned, he shocked even his own band when he jumped in on the second verse. Amazing! I had tickets to see him at the Wellmont after this but he never made it.

This has to be one of the last videos of Levon in concert. He died 25 days later.

Did anybody notice the date of recording this video and the date of posting it here on yt? If I`m not completely wrong, this was recorded just 4 weeks before Levon passed away and posted 1 day before he went away... So sad...
