Levon was awesome...he had music in his soul and it came out so so smooth and effortlessly....singing and playing so many instruments ......he will be forever missed.
Sadly, Levon’s nephew terry Cagle (also playing drums here) passed on 2/12/23. He was the drummer for the Cate Brothers band (playing guitar and keyboards here). All from Fayetteville, Arkansas
In a couple of weeks, I'll be 80. This stuff still resonates with me. And they tried to tell me rock and roll was only a passing fad in the fifties. Great rendition of a great hit.
Me too 84 and still rocking. Check out “ Classic 70’s TV Show Dance Party” How about them Flares, 24 inch bottoms on your pants. I know this is disco The50’s was when it all started to change. Who’d you reckon started it Elvis, Bo Diddly or maybe Fats Domino. Levon used to be with Ronnie Hawkins on Yonge street Toronto.Used to go there then,
I only live 2 hours birth place Elaine, AR. Love to head to the Delta and soak up all the music history in and around Helena-West Helena and cruise the Levon Helm Memorial Highway. Levon was one of a kind.
@@SaraSalty Dear SaraSalty, I am now 86 and still playing the Hand Jive. In fact, I, 'm listening to it now. Thanks for the message. Hope you are living the dream.
No wonder Levon left Dylan's tour when they were getting booed. This is what Levon wanted--a bouncing, dancing, good-time crowd who appreciated the music. He looks sooooooo happy here. And this is a great lineup--that kid on the other drum kit is terrific. (This makes Clapton's version sound like he recorded it in his sleep.)
I'm 57 and Remember listening to him...all the more blessed i did...Loved and Listened to Music More than TV...and in the beginning had to watch music, mostly country...then years of my choice
me 73 , 74 - two months to go , such a pity levon couldn't make that and so many other great guys & gals ; - just found this , into favourites it goes ! really thanks for the upload , Harry !!!
@@ambersones5931 The establishment seldom recognizes true talent, it's sales that matter. Your opinion is your opinion but I have to side with Louie Belson, Buddy Rich and Eddie Shaughnessy as far as great drummers go. Kenny Aronoff stands out for me as a rock solid journeyman drummer. Keep rockin' in the free world.
Look at levon, and you can see he was as happy as a duck finding a junebug. My god. we are so much lost without him. wish he was here to at least to tell me. "do it boy".
How are they underrated? Buy a dictionary cause these guy's are considered to be some of the best musicians in their respective fields, they made great music and wrote some of the most iconic songs ever ( the weight always makes the lists of greatest songs ever etc ) People only have praise for their musicianship and the fact they had three singers, not underrated at all
@@terryelkins4338 you clearly do need a dictionary cause you don't understand the word underrated, it's not an opinion being underrated is a fact. If something is considered underrated it's because that's what the popular consensus is so it's not a matter of opinion that's why you need a dictionary
@@davidmellish3295 Dude its an opinion and you are obsessed with my comment!! Maybe you need to get a dictionary and look up the word OBSESSED!! Because you are obsessed with my comment that they were a underated band!! Go get professional help !!
I AM 75. STILL ENJOYING THIS , GREAT SONGS NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE, RAP-MUSIC, CAN'T EVEN COMPETE....I FOR ONE NEVER BOUGHT ONE SONG OF RAP.... I LOST COUNT WHAT I BOUGHT OF ROCK-ROLL, AND GOOD OLD COUNTRY SONGS.
I think this song/tune is absolutely awesome ! Imagine an old school harmonica blended , that other instrument resembles it but it would resonate additional spine thrill !!!!!!!!!
@@markwaters136 Yeah I think that he is ok now and it might had been something else wrong with him. There is fan facebook page dedicated to the band and his actual daughter had mentioned him and he appears to be recovering now from something else that wasn't cancer related. facebook.com/groups/276229503233675
"...welllll, doctor and the lawyer and the Indian Chief, now they all dig that crazy beat. Way-out Willy gave 'em all a treat, when he did that hand jive with his feet.... Hand jive, hand jive, hand jive, doin' that crazy hand jive." (My favorite verse -- they left it out. Otherwise, a great rendition. Thanks for posting. Kinda makes my day.) :-)
I was indeed lucky enough to see them once after I sobered up.l'm getting old as well but it was as close to extacy as I can recall.Every member a master.
This Bo Diddley piece always lit the kids way up. Played it many times. Two measures of a great piece to ;perform are this...does it get dancers on the floor and does it sell beer.
LEVON.....R.I.P you were a great vocalist for THE BAND and were a great drummer.Keeping time for Robbie,Rick, Richard and Garth.the world is not the same without you.thanks for the music.
I just found this song while scrolling in my UTube acct & recognized his name! He played Sissy Spacek's dad in "Coal Miner's Daughter" in 1980!! Had no idea he had a band! RIP Levon
“Hand Jive” was originally released in 1958. I was in junior high in Louisville and everybody loved it. His only competition on the radio back then, imho, was Bo Diddley. Was this concert in the late 50s or during the 60s when his son Shuggie started performing with his dad at age 11. Shuggie was a musical prodigy who jammed with Frank Zappa, playing several instruments, and he passed his splendid genes on to his 2 sons, who also became professional musicians with their own bands.
Wow - l love this mans voice. A true rocker. A little embarrassed to admit l had not heard of him before. But l have certainly done some research tonight. Thanks for the introduction.
