I'm so glad Levy is back on his GM journey. These mf babushka rants from him on what a clusterf**k chess is at the top-level is the best content he's dished out in years. We need more babushka-rant Levy.
Levy did you hear about the 85th GM from India named Shyaam Nikhil. He received his 2nd GM norm in 2012 and 3rd GM norm in 2024 after 12 years. Very inspiring story. Hope it will motivate you to achieve your goal.
The rant at the end is when the master shows how good he actually is. I know maybe 10 opening main lines and still get them wrong. He busted out 10 lines for one opening in the time it takes me to hang a piece on move 6.
Agree!! Definitely a sneaky probably overlooked part of the rant and video as a whole!! The finishing touch proves all of what we all already know but man impressive!! Great point by you… 15 points for … I dunno HUFFLEPUFF
Levy looks very good person, i dont know why people troll him so much by saying (you will never become gm) . He is a IM and those people who troll him are not even close to him . Fools!!
@@brycepeddicord6763 He isn't being humble. A big problem Levy has is extreme self doubt. He undervalues himself all the time. I remember Hikaru chewing him out for it a few years back. Levy would be a GM if chess skill/understanding were the only thing. He plays like 250elo higher in fun games than against higher rated opponents. Pinning hate comments is one of the many ways he encourages hate and reinforces his self doubt.
This video is awesome cause it really puts into perspective how much grandmasters know and then how much more the top level gms have to learn when they play classical chess. Like when you see them still in their preparation 15 moves in you know they did the same thing for so many other lines and its just insane how much they can remember.
I'm so happy I don't have to deal with any of that 😄 I'm 14 hundred garbage and I'm having a blast. You know, hanging forks, mates in one, noticing hang forks and mates by my opponent, some silly tactics, occasionally uncorking some savage sacs, etc. Chess is awesome when it's just a hobby.
fun fact the d3 caro kann he showed was the same shit some 60 year old played against me on my first ever chess otb tournament.... needless to say i was confused af and playing a position ive never seen before
"And then he's losing and I played some very good positional moves" The "positional moves" brought eval from -2.5 to -0.6 "Very bad positional moves" is more accurate haha
Great rant!!! Appreciate the sincerity in frustration and having a little vent, I Iove when you show us (intentional/planned or not) more of the real LEVY, But a bit too much of the at “your” level, “10 year olds” etc for my liking, yes I’m sure a lot of the subscribers and commenters are a much lower level and rating than you but the dispraise gives off a bit of a superiority ego feel for me. Love your work Gotham chess keep at it mate, I LOVED to see that you’re going for the GM and with a strong attitude too, I have all the faith my man. Loving your book and please come to Australia. Really appreciate the channel as a whole and this is the one and only little bit of criticism I’ve had so far for you but even still you’re someone I look up to not just as a chess player but as a man most of all. “Get outta here”
Now wait one minute yes your right in what your saying but the answer is in the question that, that's why computer programs keep changing for they would lose every time so what I'm getting at is you have to change every time but know when you have to change is more important than remembering all the theory, remember you already have the tools just using that tool towards what you know the other one is doing and this is just one part of the thinking, remember it's not how it's when for you❤😊
@@lucasmisael7507 They won't be prepared for 20 moves. Not book moves but literally looking for all lines white can possibly play and then go with the engine suggestions. No grandmaster will go further than 15 moves in ALEKHINE
Love the rant about opening lines. And when you're 1500 you prepare an opening for hours, and then you come out of the opening at like +0.8 only to immediately blunder a piece and lose anyway.
I like how advanced our chess AI has become. We don't let them play their own choice of openings because they'll be boring and draw. So we force them into interesting positions and watch them play from there. Then we make people who are interested in fun chess stress out about learning super long opening sequences.
If there's one thing online competitive games have taught is that it's all a numbers game. You only need above 50% winrate for progress, which still means you'll lose nearly half your games. Don't obsess over it, think about the things you did wrong and learn from it but move on.
The last 5 minutes of this episode reminded me of SpongeBob when he forgot how to make a Krabby Patty and while being a smartass to Mr. Krabs he ended up making the thing again.
Levy learn a Sicilian instead of Caro-Kann is a good idea. I always wondered why you don`t give it a shot. All GM`s play Sicilian. I am not at the level to give you an advice but i enjoy playing taimanov. Taimanov is very good and solid. May be you can give it a shot and release a beautiful course on it like you always do. Looking forward to see your over the board play. No pressure. Just fuck em up. You are the beast. I have almost the same mental problems in chess (+ i am bad of course) and I hope that if you evolve I can follow
The best rants are borderline a mental breakdown. Glad to hear your training is going well Levy, and dear god that was funny. Also I'd just like to say that people who play the Petrov hate chess and people.
Having a slightly worse or even a slightly uncomfortable position is just pure agony in 90+30, especially against lower rated players. If you are just losing you can come to terms with your situation, but you do not know what will happen in a slightly worse position, there is still a chance to come back and win or draw (painful against lower rated players), but you can FEEL your optimism fading away as the clock ticks down. After a massive 90+30 tournament I'd do nothing for five days, which really isn't sustainable when you have work.
Complaining is the ultimate understanding of anything, you will get GM Levy. I do NOT doubt it. Get frustrated at all the BS moves and find the juicy classy moves to show them why you deserve a title you worked for.
