Merc are done. Brain drain, little understanding of the ruleset, engine not the best anymore, leadership lacking, poor pitstops (7th best) and strategy questionable.
Mercedes spent too long winning, they forgot how to compete. I wouldn't say they are done, because they pulled it back from the farce that was the start of last year. But they have a lot of work to do. I'm more concerned about Aston Martin dropping the ball, but I guess the Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes comeback was inevitable. I just hope next year someone can take the fight to Red Bull because unless you didn't care about P1, it was a dull season with very few hope spots. They did a phenomenal job. It just was not fun to watch.
They can easily build a competitive car. Building a ground effect device isn't as complicated as say a building a powertrain. Even Mercedes engineers stated, after seeing Red Bull's underfloor, that they could come up with something better. The question is whether their drivers can actually drive such a car, and drive the car on the level equaling Max Verstappen's. Lewis demands some changes in the car so it would accomodate his preferences, how much of that would adversely affect the car's competitiveness and optimization would be a matter of compromise. Red Bull's main man is Adrian Newey. He builds a car that he believes is the fastest and it's up for their driver to make it work. Mercedes main man is Lewis Hamilton. He demands that a car should be build in a certain way, and it's up for the engineers to make it happen.
@gelmir7322 A driver can only do so much. F1 has many brilliant drivers but at the end of the day it's the battle of engineers that truly determines the victor. Neweys aero dominance will more than likely last until 2026 when the engine freeze ends. We will be back to the engine dominance of Mercedes very soon.
I wouldn't say what is happening right now in f1 is Newey's "aero dominance", At least not per se. The fact that most of their rivals missed out on predicting porpoising (a known problem with ground effect since the 70s), goes to show that they fumbled their way in to the new era. It's more like the other teams just didn't do their homework properly and that's why they are failing behind rather than the idea that Red Bull is dominating them because Newey come up with something that is so overpowered and ground breaking (like when mercedes had an engine domination during the turbo-hybrid era)
Mercedes can't buy dominance anymore. Brute forcing developments through with endless amounts of CFD and wind tunnel time is no longer an option. Only talent matters when you are budget limited.
Talent is not enough if you look at Red Bull - Max and Checo. In theory, Alpha Tauri could also be using the same engine/ car as Red Bull.. will see if that happens in 2024. Then you can see if its the car and/or driver. Personally, I believe that the engine and braking technology that Honda developed enables the race pace, better tire management and overall reliability for the car. No one really talks about what Red Bull did to LEAP FROG themselves technologically from the field. Which didn't happen overnight.
I’m a LH fan, but at the moment all that is coming out of his mouth is sour grapes. Why come out an say that about his team. Just congratulate red bull on a brilliant season and get your head down and try and build a car to challenge them next season. I think we all need a championship that goes down to the wire, not one won with multiple races left.
Lol funny to hear they have FIA backing. Let's be real. Mercedes were dominant in the hybrid Era when they had started development earlier than everyone else. That teamed with throwing money at problems makes it easy. Now Merc are in a game they have no clue on with a limit on cost giving them zero room to just bin a car and start over. I feel mercedes won so many years they have no idea how to still comprehend a loss. Lh also meets to leave as he now just takes jabs at pretty much everything. Not saying that as a RB fan rather as someone just tired of his crap.
Lewis is stating the fact which most people are not addressing the "Red Bull" in the room - if your car is 17 seconds or more ahead of the other cars - in most races - this is not sour grapes!
@@crab3696 how is it not. Bad mouths his team, saying his basically already dreading next year. Where was his moaning when Mercedes was flying. Take it on the chin, put in as much effort as you do moaning into developing a decent car and do your taking on track
Lewis and Toto still think they are the top dogs : arrogance, complacency, entitlement, and misguided priorities. They were never part of the Mercedes team when it was still in the process of building itself up and thus never experience being an underdog There is a big difference between building a competitive team vs believing you are entitled to a competitive team.
Its simply common sense. Usually when a team has won the championship earlier on other developing teams typically catch up and take some wins from them. The fact that rb has not touched their car since august and they only missed out on singapore due to a bad setup (tbh they were still pretty strong) says that unless teams come up with something revolutionary , rb will still be on top
Its ground effect, which is a known technology in F1 since 70's. this is nothing new. This ain't some cutting edge technology that requires tons of money to make and requires years and topnotch expertise to develop ala turbo-hybrid engine. Lots of motorsports series already use ground effect in their cars for decades now. Newey does not have anyhing extra-special that other teams don't have access to.
@TacGKilgore Expecting something "revolutionary" will be created from a relatively simple, straight-forward, 50+ year old technology, that has been in-use in many racing series is a hard sell. Newey never invented anything new that is not already available to any engineers. Other teams made major design mistakes like Mercedes. Fixing those mistakes is not tantamount to creating something "revolutionary". Red Bull design concept (under Max Verstappen's skill and talent) already set the baseline of what design is considered as the most effective in this era, other teams can readily copy it and produce the same similar competitive car (at least in theory). But the problem for the other team are, Do they have a driver like Max Verstappen that could extract the full potentials of such car? If they don't have such a driver, how much of the design are they willing to compromise, so their drivers can adapt and drive the car? If they don't have a driver like Max, then copying the Red Bull car wouldn't guarantee competitiveness, as demonstrated by Sergio Perez who was practically driving the same exact car as Max Verstappen and yet can't produce the same result as Max.
Yeah, you completely ignored the context of my statement. Ground effect is "simple" because it is already a tried-and-tested and well established solution for generating down force. Lots of series are employing it on a sustainable level and appreciable effect. Newey didn't bring anything new to the technology that are not accessible to other teams. From the materials use, manufactoring tools, design tools (Newey stated the he still use pencil and paper for designing his car), the science and engineering involved (like fluid mechanics), none of these are out of reach to any other teams. Even Mercedes engineers, after evaluating the under floor of the Red Bull car, stated that they could up with something that is better than what Newey desgned. What is apparently lacking to other teams is due diligence and comparable experience. And this can be easily rectified by doing better research or bringing-in well experienced talents (and there are no impediments nor shortage of both). The fact that many teams failed to predict porpoising, a known issue with ground effect since the late 70's, goes to show that many of them didn't do their homework properly. Even Newey himself was surprised when proposing had become a major issue back in 2022 because porpoising was already a manageable problems in other series.
This is also why I pointed out that Max played a huge role in Red Bull's winning formula. If Red Bull only have Perez as their drivers, most of the community would not say that Red Bull had a runaway domination this season. Newey made the fastest car he could come up with and Max made it work so well. And I think that's what other teams should be aware off. Even if they manage to replicate Red Bull's car design down to the T, that's only half of the equation. The other half is having a driver like Max that could actually run it and make it work. Ground effect setup seems more finicky compare to the previous aero solutions employed in F1, and I think that where most of the problems from other teams are coming from as they couldn't maintain a consistent performance in various race tracks. In the case of Red Bull and Max, that wasn't much of an issue because Max is very adaptable and have a wide range of setups where he can run the car confidently. In the case of the other teams (and Red Bull and Sergio) drivers were emphasizing more on setting the car base on their personal driving preferences, and that why they operate on a narrower range of setup to pick from, which is harder and more complicated to do on a already finicky ground effect car.
How much of an hypocrite do he wants to be? He complains of the redbulls winning with a gap of more than 20 seconds when in reality he drove cars that won with gaps of over 30 seconds.
He's always been a hypocrite. Remember half way through the season he said it's not good for the sport to only have one team winning, he didn't say that when it was he's team all he said others need to do more to get closer to them
Come on! You think k he should say that he’s happy that his car isn’t fast enough or that it’s good for a whole season to be dominated by one team? It’s not hypocritical it’s honest. His team hasn’t done well enough and it is somewhat boring to watch Max win time and time again, not good for the sport. He isn’t saying the FIA should intervene he’s saying that his team needs to do better.
@@roydowling2542 Of course he didn't say that then, he was winning! That doesn't make him hypocritical. If he said it's not fair now but it was then, then he would be hypocritical, but he is not saying that. Do you think that having the same person win week after week, race after race doesn't hurt the sport? I do. But I don't want the FIA to change anything as we have the closest grid that we have had for years and we can but hope that another team catches up with Red Bull to make the races a bit more exciting.
Failure is a teacher, a concept you should be well familiar with. Your comment is unprecedented, unqualified, and inappropriate. A narrow mind is a narrow perception, and you have qualified for the bigot award of the year.
As a Max fan i want ofc RB to win as many races as possible. However the dominance that has been displayed this year is incredible. And i doubt if anyone is waiting for this. I think that Max will be an easy WC next year again. They havee not developed the car for such long time and still were dominant even the last race. It's hard to imagine they will not be better at the start of next season as that car will be for sure a lot faster then this years car. I seee them increasing 3 to 5 tents from the start. And that will be the gap to the next best contender. I don't see them getting any closer and even further away as they nailed the new regulations. So i forsee a new dominant season for Max and also the year after. 2026 the cards will be delt again and we can get a new order. Untill then i think nobody is going to get close. Also Max is so good. He counts for atleast 3 tents extra to make up by others.
Max deserves the championships and wins. But that does not mean its healthy for the sport if the other teams are not able to compete with him for multiple years. I hope there is a happy balance for the other teams and drivers otherwise all the great new fans for F1 will go.. POOF.
L.H & Merc sandbagged when they where winning!, so pinch of salt!! I think a lot of teams and drivers would be pleased if they finished 2rd in the constructors and 3rd in the drivers! (but we get the moping around, with tales of woe.... Haas would be leaping!!) L.H and Merc have to get over this arrogance they should be winning, they spent too long relying on the engine power (plus... they spent to much time on B.S ironic victimhood and hypocritical signalling... instead of what I watch the sport for.....RACING!)
Let's be fair. Everyone knows merc are done. They will sell up in a few years and go back to being a power unit supplier only again. 100% they are finished at the top table in f1. They are 3rd at best if not 4th if Aston sort themselves out. Yea they finished second, but they were the 4th best team behind redbull, ferrari and mclaren.
What a crybaby. Lewis plz stop racing. You are not up to the job anymore. It is just too hard for not sitting in the best car anymore. Hope it stays this way.
Williams lagged behind because of poor and underdevelop infrastructure (primarily because of lack of fundings) That would not happen to Mercedes as they already have topnotch R&D and factory.
Mercedes are having a fall...they couldn't understand the car in 2022,their veteran driver is not motivated and loses at time to their younger driver thats still slower overall...plus their car is consistent but not going near the no.1
For merc: 2 Brits after 1 Britt and a Finn...is doomed to fail! 😅 Finns are much more than fast drivers. We also understand how the machine - which makes the body move faster - can go even faster. 😎 It's a sensational feeling! Same happened to Ferrari after Kimi, every-damn-time. 😂
RB just did the same thing merc did, I don’t think it’s the teams fault somewhere along the line the FIA need to even things out or the bottom teams really need to get it together, especially the drivers, your not back marker teams, you can compete
Nothing really will change until 2026. The team will get closer to Red Bull but Red Bull will have already moved the goal posts. So when 2024 starts the grid will still be pretty far behind Red Bull, as you know Red Bull started work on the RB20 well before everyone else started on the 2024 car and still the RB19 spanked the rest of the grid all year long. The other 9 teams may think they'll be closer but in reality Red Bull will be dominant until 2026 and the new regs.
i think much people in this community don't get what drivers really want. all they want is to be bale to fight for wins. even Max said that not having to fight is a bit boring. of course breaking records is cool but he'd rather have to fight for it than cruising at the front. that's all what drivers want. it's not RB's fault like it wasn't Merc's fault when they were dominating. nobody wants to have such situation. but it is what it is. other teams have to catch up to have a great championship. that's all. so it's nortmal when drivers don't get what is necessary to fight for wins. any drivers would react like this. people are just too harsh towards Lewis. if next year RB is not in the position to win as much, Max will complain the same. it's just the normal behavior. deal with it people.
I agree.same with how Michael Schumacher dominated with Ferrari for a long time. I guess it goes in cycles but then you get drivers like Fernando Alonso,Mika Hakkinen who disrupts the dominance. While lewis hasn't always had a dominant car, even teams like McLaren, Williams, Ferrari all have had seasons where they were the cars to beat.mercedes as good as they are, aren't exempt from having bad seasons. New thinking must be incorporated into that team in order to fill in the gaps left. This is coming from a lewis fan btw😅
I think alot of us fans, max fans included(dont know if most will agree) it doesnt sound good for us the viewers too. Max probably smashes everyone but a title challenge beyond summer break is a nice welcome.
I don't get it, so many years team LH telling that "it's not the car" and now the car is so bad that Lewis can't win... Anyway, i'm tired of Lulu and maximax, hope they both have a shitty season sooner than later.
I wouldn't mind seeing Max win every single one of the 24 races next year, provided the other teams coming second are close and challenging Max, putting he and Redbull under some pressure.
Red Bull dominance - 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025.... another 2 more years is UNBEARABLE. Fans are going to get very agro if 2024 and 2025 continues along the same vein (which looks like it will happen) as 2023. Fans will drop off unless F1 does some things differently.
It's only been a 2 team race for well over a decade at this point. How someone can say F1 is competitive with those Facts is beyond me. For Red bull to win that many races in 1 year is unacceptable by any racing standards throughout the globe. Great sport 👍
Not Red Bull's fault that the other teams didn't do their homework properly. Some morons even doubled down on their failure while whining to FIA to fix their problems for them.
@@Michael-rg7su but they haven’t done a better job unfortunately for many many years now. The competition is getting worse. The only reason Formula 1 is gaining any momentum throughout the globe is because of a reality show on Netflix. It’s not because of competition!!! F1 needs to bring in more teams or have less teams. Figure it out but what took place in 2023 is unacceptable by racing standards. Let me root for a team that has 0.0 chance of winning a race or a championship is what has been going on for far tooo long!!
@@gelmir7322 unfortunately nobody has been competitive in far too many years. This hasn't been over a couple of years this is over a decade old issue. They have to figure it out whether it be more teams or less teams but what is going on is completely unacceptable.
