@zak Jacques Villeneuve was a championship challenger in his first year too. He got pole in his very first race, got six fastest laps in the season, and won four times (the same number of wins as Hamilton - winning his first two races sooner than Hamilton too)
@@Cimmerian_Iter we never saw a more successful junior career as well. british karting champ 3 times, european karting champ, formula A champ, formula renault champ, record breaking f3 title win, f2 champ. thats just some of the highlights.
Long term Lewis fan here. I remember when he first entered F1, I just couldn't understand how he could be as quick as Alonso straight away. My conclusion was that he must be Senna/Schumacher good. 10 years later and that has shown to be true. Max Verstappen is also that good I would say. He's the only driver on the grid that has a chance of beating Schumachers 7 championships, although Max and Lewis can both beat Schumachers 91 wins record. I hope Lewis stays in F1 another 10 years. Like old man Schumacher did, still getting pole aged 43 - Awesome.
LolDePow whoops I’m wrong...wow that means Lewis can catch up...he can get 6 this year...let’s see about next year...but yah Lewis is the best I’ve seen since schumi
Christopher Morelock yeah but comparing them the only real dodgy call was Germany 2018 (this is as a merc fan) 07-08 he has done really dodgy calls i.e. Spa 2007
It's funny how Hamilton surely got some issues with 'rich kids', he never stops mentioning where he came from as opposed to the likes of Rosberg. Even his war with Nico began when all of a sudden Lewis decided to comment on a difference in their background in the days before Monaco 2014 (even before the qualifying incident made them the worst enemies).
who was handed the fastest car on the grid from their debut race and who had to work their way up to the best car? also who acts normal and who acts entitled?
bullmilk The stewards were so biased toward Ferrari both of his first two seasons. He really deserved to win the first year more than he did the year he actually won.
I fully agree with this. Hamilton was by far the driver of 2007. But he was plagued with issues. Despite some amazing drives in 2008 (Silverstone for example) I think Massa was more worthy of the 2008 championship
Telemetry shows he slowed down and gave the time back, hence the FIA didn't penalise him. Rosberg also cut the corner and nothing happened and Verstappen got away with it when he cut the corner after locking up.
@Daz 88 That was when he weaved 4 times on a straight against Petrov. Kimi had two mechanical DNFs in 2007 in a slower car, Hamilton had none (one sort of DNF in Brazil, and one which was his fault in China). Spa he gave the position back but still got an advantage by being able to slipstream Kimi and pass him in turn 1.
all the penalties were correct 1) being an idiot and hitting raikkonen in the pitlane in canada 2) cutting the chicane to pass vettel in france 3) cutting the chicane to position his car for a slipstream on kimi at spa 4) forcing 3 or 4 cars off the track at the start in japan he should have been penalised more like when he took out Alonso at Bahrain because he didn't see him slowly getting bigger for some reason, he truly was a retard driver
The 2007 season(lewis' rookie season) was total chaos Him and alonso(his teammate) just kept fighting in and outside the track, i remember almost the entire f1 media coverage was about tensions between alonso and hamilton. It came to a point in one race where alonso stayed parked in the pitstop just so lewis couldnt enter and as a result lewis couldnt set a qualifying lap because time ran out And all the while when these 2 who were leading the championship for almost the whole season were fighting, kimi came out of nowhere and overtook them both in the drivers championship in the final race by 1 point. It was a such a dramatic season! Also, one would think mclaren won constructors becuase both their drivers were top runners for the drivers championship. Well, they got disqualified mid season for stealing info off of ferrari.
2008 has been his best World Title so far and it will remain so forever! His best years were the McLaren ones, full of epic battles and legendary races. Now at Mercedes he's dominating, but F1 has become so boring and predictable.
I enjoyed even more from then as it brought Kimi and Alonso back in the fight. It sucked Ferrari were too quick in brazil because Alonso could have won the title.
I always dream of formula one with all the legends (senna Hamilton fangio clark Schumacher...) racing in their prime with cars that follow no regulations yet with the same performance and reliability Wouldn't that be a sight to behold
Man, when the interviewer asks "why were you EMBARRASSED when it was your first year and you just BARELY lost the championship" - guy obviously doesn't understand the mindset of a winner. Hamilton opened saying "well we used to show up with a crappy cart and beat a buncha rich kids" I know this point of view very well as do many people; showing up with a "crappy cart" that's a quote from other people's perspective: even if it wasn't this way - he probably felt as if he was being looked down on and mocked and that motivates you as a kid to try your utmost to shut those kids up. . . "Rich kids with flashy cars" tells you those guys had the speed and all the extras they wanted was put on, cos they had money. The only way he could do this was to win to hopefully get some money to get at least a better engine or whatever to do better next time. . . Man these spoonfed guys don't know the struggle. When you come from the bottom, you've already put in more work than anyone else; why should they get to be on top when they've done so little to get there
Are you Graham bensingers dad to judge his mentality?? What do you know about him to say such nonsense criticisms you are talking like you are Cristiano Ronaldo/Lewis Hamilton himself.
The main reason why he feel embarrassed was definitely because of the way he lost it , it was a huge bottle job that season. Could have won it easily if they played the number games
Was not a fan of Hamilton in his early F1 days for several reasons (still not what you would call a "fan" necessarily), but he has matured as a driver in many ways since then and I can fully admit he is one of the best Formula One drivers of all time. That being said, I would love to see just how much he has matured by putting him in a car that isn't dominant but still competitive - such as a current Ferrari or Red Bull - to see if his composure remains as it is or if we would see the return of a more emotional Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel.
I always had the impression that the two McLaren drivers were not "allowed" to win the WDC in '07 after Spygate by some silent agreement. Which is a shame because it was such an epic season.
Anyone's achievement on getting to F1 is not an easy feat. But when he was 13 Ron Dennis funded his career to F1. I'm sure it was performance based, which means he earned it, but he didn't have money problems since then. It's a shame that relationship soured by the end of his McLaren years. I'm sure his Dad worked hard to start his career, but I'm sure there was evidence already that it's a relatively safe bet. He wouldn't have spent money if Lewis wasn't winning everything.
I know he’s had the best rookie season ever for an F1 driver, but when I think about how in for the books (more than it already is) it would be if he had won the championship that year
👍🎉10/29/2017 Today Lewis Hamilton became the most successful British F1 driver in history by winning his 4th world title at the Mexican Grand Prix!! 👍🎉
Ferrari lost it for him in Hungary I believe, and Neilson Piquet Jnr. Lost it for him in Singapore, with Ferrari pouring some salt on the wound during the pit stop.
@@sloppynyuszi That Silverstone disasterclass is what lost him that championship, this shit is arguably one of the worst wet weather drives of the last 20 years, I'm glad he didn't win after such a disgraceful performance.
Didn't enjoy the first championship! Bet he is enjoying it now... :) Is Lewis now the greatest ever? See the arguments here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2sGs0Kdehas.html
There's an alternate universe where Hamilton doesn't make the overtake to get 5th in the final race and win the championship and never signs with Mercedes. He could have lost the world championship by 1 point in his first 2 years in F1 and then got sidelined by the Mercedes domination and never won a title.
1:42 I believe Graham made an involuntary "checkmate" on Lewis on there with that question. Because... yeah, why would you be embarrassed by losing a championship by 1 (one!) point in your first season? I'm sure Massa felt differently in the year after. That shows more about his mindset than anything else in this interview. And it's those fine details that make all the difference. He calls himself very emotional. But I feel Seb, Button and other racers more authentic with their emotions. Most of them Kimi, of course...
He didn't necessarily mean embarrassed by not winning the World Championship, probably just the fact that now everything he does is under the microscope, including beaching the car on pit entry in China. I would imagine THAT is what he meant, if he was being specific. He has said in other interviews since that he believes that cost him the World Championship that year. It is pretty embarrassing. However, not for him in my eyes, for McLaren as a team.
"I had a lot of penalties given to me in those 2 years through no fault of my own [which is not entirely true], just through some strange things that were going on in the business. Almost like anything to stop me from succeeding...". But, he is right about "some strange things going on in the business .... to stop me from succeeding". I keep saying this; Lewis should have won the F1 Championship in his rookie year. But at the time, the old Bernie Ecclestone was the owner of F1 and he was calling the shots back then. In the penultimate race, where Lewis wanted to come in and change his tires was ordered to go one more round by this McLaren manager Ron Dennis. A call that was puzzling for everybody. But we know; it would have been embarrassing for a poor black man to come into a historically rich white man's sport and win it at first sight. That was just not allowed in the all white man's book of F1. So, it would not surprise me if at some day the truth will come out that Bernie ordered Ron to have Lewis go one more round, where the tires were so worn out, the could handle the car anymore and lost it coming into the pits. He collected zero points that race and lost the championship by 1 point. That's the disappointment he is talking about but didn't want want to show it back then, but it will come out.
Lewis certainly does have a huge ego. And these interviews shows it too. "Embarrassed not winning his first year on F1." How come? Well, he is embarassed because he have a huge expectation of himself. So high, that he ( because of the winning streaks in all other divisions ) was expecting to get the championship in his rookie year. I like Lewis, and I am not saying that his ego is a reason for me to hate him. In fact, his ego is just a part of him that makes him so good at what he does. His ego is also a shield for the countless times of bullshit thrown at him that makes him vulnerable and will result in bad performance. People that don't like Lewis uses that exact ego, as another bullshit reason to throw at him. While it is one of his strongest sides. That's why Lewis might not be a guy to hang out with randomly, but will be a very good friend once you know him personally. People saying such bad stuff about Lewis, and actually all other drivers, are people that can't stand someone being succesfull. It's plain jalousy. They also have a ego, but they are an example how to use that ego wrong. It's a shield, not a weapon. And why would you fire a weapon at random people?!
Randy Marsh - Maybe the are more pressing issues than racing cars around a track ? Like greatness for all the right reasons? What a load of boring old rubbish ! Humans have far to go --obviously?!
being embarrassed that he didn't win the championship in 2007 doesn't prove he has a huge ego, it wasn't the fact that he didn't win it at the first attempt that was embarrassing, it's the position that he lost it from that was
I think he clarified it in the interview that he wasn't embarrassed of the results. He was embarrassed to be emotionally exposed on camera. Not sure what interview you guys watched.
So u did not enjoy a hard won champiosnhip against an equally fast ferrari car but u did enjoy the championships u took with the most dominant car of the F1 history?
Try and understand what he's trying to say first before commenting, it was a completely new environment for him. And a lot of people (both in F1 and the spectators) were not willing to accept him as a world champion at the time (look at the boos he got when he won the WC over Massa).....
When you’re rich it’s easier to make more money and to get into a sport like F1. When you are poor you don’t have much time. Lewis was not poor tho more like middle class
Because when you’re rich kid you don’t bring it up. Especially in sports. For the poor kids to bring it up is constant reminder of where they came from, the sacrifices and it’s a constant motivation. It’s like a burning fire.
hamilton was never poor, he comes from a middle class family. Also ron dennis funded his career since he was 12 and gave him a spot in the fastest team from day one. Other drivers had to start as test drivers for teams or drive for minardi and other backmarkers
-in what country is someone considered middle class when their dad has to work 4 jobs? Furthermore, he was competing against kids who lived in fucking Monaco... oh and one of them had a dad who casually had some WDC money lying around to buy his kid the good shit. -Ron Dennis funded his career because he was fucking quick, and don't give me that bullshit "BuT TheRe ArE QuIcKeR DrIvErS" the man is a 6 time champ and won a race every year, even with "meh" cars ('09 '11). -he tested for Mclaren in '05 (i think) and '06 but what does it matter? The guy nearly won a championship in his rookie year while beating the *REIGNING WORLD CHAMPION* in the same car. why is it that people regularly give hamilton shit or downplay what he's done like he's been gifted everything? The man has earned everything he's got. Mercedes dominance be dammed.
@@BMK500 the 09' ''meh'' car was the second faster at the second half of the season because brawn gp lacked evolution. Also the 11' ''meh'' car was good enough for button to be SECOND in the wdc with 270 points (hamilton scored 227). The thing is judging a driver by his economic status when he was a kid is absolutely moronic. Senna was extremely rich and he was the best ever.
nikol nikol it’s really not if anything it’s telling. If a kid can win a race in a shitbox kart it’s an early and obvious indicator that they’ve got talent. Conversely if they have a kart that’s top of the line with brand new components it’ll mask their real speed. usually they get exposed the higher you go up in ranks unless you got a dad who’s last name is Stroll (although to be fair the guy does have decent race pace) My point is money makes all the difference in the world especially in racing. If you can overcome that giant obstacle through pure skill as a fucking adolescent that’s some baller ass shit.
His dad actually was super super poor when they were karting, he then started some software company or something and got a bit more money, still nothing compared to all these rich kids.. It's incredibly difficult getting to F1 being from a family that can't throw thousands away on shit, look at Mazepin w/e that clowns name is, look @ Stroll, all these pay drivers. Max , Nico, etc all had fathers rich too with every advantage, and it's funny cause money cant buy you talent.
If u didn't enjoy the first world champions then give the world champions to Massa immediately.and ask stewards to reinvesting the inaugural Singapore gp and cancel the result for the race .
In reality he should be a 5 times champion by now, strange penalties 2007, 2008 highly unreliable one of 8 Mercedes powered cars in 2016. He's blitzing every F1 drivers record. I know many people like to think racism is long gone, just look at his career and you'll see it's unfortunately alive and kicking. It's not something to focus on but as a black man you must be aware of it.
Raymond Mason That makes no sense. For you to say that any hate or penalties he gets is a result of racism is plain ignorant. Every one gets hate, and stupid stuff happens to everybody, everywhere. Just because some is not white doesn’t mean that everything bad that happens to them is racism. That sounds like an excuse.
I'm not saying that everything negative that happens to him is racism, however, some of it is. History is full of situations in which a system or set of people are adamant that people or a person of colour are hindered from achieving true greatness.
So true James hunt, possibly the worst lifestyle you could have as an athlete and borderline alcoholic yet he his praised 10fold for being exciting... Hamilton is twice, three times even four times the driver yet they hate his outside life... suuuuuuuure it doesn’t exist
He missed out on the championship in 2007, 2016 but also 2012. If lady luck was a little bit more on his side he would already be on Schumacher's record of 7 championships.
Not sure it has anything to do with race. It’s about the fact Lewis was just a kid back then who was gonna win the championship in his FIRST year. He made a mockery of the sport in a way. They couldn’t let him win he was a rookie
He is trying to make it a rags to riches story. The thing is, pub talk heresay is to be believed, he comes from an upper middle class family. Which is poor for high stakes go karting. Not so poor for people with cheaper hobbies, such as football.
@@HeadshotDisorder He is a world champion - the top of the top of the top. If he was held down, which could have been done at every level, you wouldn't know who he is you dumb fuck. Stop being a victim! Make something of yourself instead if rambling nonsense and believing your excuses.
@@svetu9411 a lot of speculations are that mcklaren was "forbidden" to win in 2007 duo to the spy scandal and fia not wanting a team that is suspected to have stolen info win the championship...
I remember Alonso trying to sabotage Lewis multiple times. Crazy penalties. F1 was extremely racist before Lewis. When he won there was a huge racist sh*tstorm on all the Internet forums. Different world not that long ago. His battle off the track has been a hundred times more difficult than on. I’m so happy for him. 👍🏼
Lewis likes to talk about his and his family struggles every chance he gets, calling his competitors "those rich kids", even branding himself as a "first working class black champion" these days. He always brings up Rosberg but he never mentions Wesley Graves. He supposedly was on the same level as Hamilton in karting, McLaren supported them both at that stage, only he had less sponsors and most of all way less PR and marketing potential. He and his family lost almost everything when McLaren cut him loose, and you barely find any info about him. Thats why I don't like Hamilton as a person, he acts so entitled to the point of arrogance playing every card he can in media if that gives him advantage and further promotes his persona. Formula 1 has always been a sport of a rich for the most part but it also had a lot of true talented racers and champions from all around the world and with a very humble backgrounds as well, like Raikkonen and Schumacher to name a few. But I don't recall Michael bragging about his upbringing and how he's a first working class german champion, or anybody else really for that matter. Not to take away from his skill and race craft but there have never been a driver in history of F1 who's been groomed by a top F1 team from the very beginning and then given a chance to jump right into a championship contending car. Not a single F1 champion experienced this level of support and preferential treatment, it's a fact. And part of that is due to the PR potential he possessed thanks to the color of his skin, but who will ever be willing to admit that these days? Especially Lewis himself, so busy pushing the racial oppression agenda.
lol he got penalties for no fault of his own, he has the biggest victim mentality, hitting kimi at Canada was most definitely his fault so was cutting the chicane passing vettel
If he learned to work better with people it would have been a very different story. He has no respect for his team mates and considering the team talked a lot in his rookie year about starting his set up with Alonso's he really should have tried to learn from him and not get his own team mate penalized. As for the first championship win, Kimi was the number 1 at Ferrari and had a botched season and he still only beat the #2 Ferrari driver by a single point, really takes the glory out of it. He should be honest and say it like it was as a second rate win. Subsequent years should have lead to more wins but he was in his own way and the next win didn't come until his car was miles faster than anyone else. 2016 he lost even though Toto was fully backing him against Nico. Again just another example of not working well with his team mate. He is the common denominator in team dysfunction and all the team mates he has do well with others. They say he has a good relationship with his dad but clearly not good enough to work together. Again what is the common denominator? He is one egotistical person who should grow up and look in the mirror and change who he is because when you see clips of him as a kid the prick he is today is nowhere in sight.... sad really that it is what he has learned.
Both Lewis and Fernando are crybabies.. that's why they didn't win the championship with the best car (McLaren in 2007), but Kimi fought them with a less good car and got the championship.
@@dr.samlowry4808And that's why one is a 6 times world champion and why the other got trashed by every decent teammate he ever had, that 2014 trashing has to be one of the most disgraceful performances in f1 history.
Lol if it was massa's he should have won more points.lewis won fair and square. Massa also benefitted by team orders when kimi let him by in some races that year.
@@LukasZ_77 so was that lewis's fault. Massa signed with ferrari he took the risks. F1 is not about being fair. For starters it mostly has only rich kids. F1 is not about being fair. If you get an opportunity to win ,you win.it is as simple as that.
His message is important: racism in sport and especially in F1. A poor black dominating rich whites through pure talent and motivation. Racists can burn in hell.
i said it at the time , who is this black kid ?, do what you can to stop this kid . even now i think timo deliberately slowed down to give him the title . as he deserved it .
