I like Niki but Hamilton was faster and the line Nico took would not have even made the corner. Also, a wise person does not rely on another individual. Mercedes should have been able to deal with both drivers leaving without missing a beat. You can only control yourself.

That’s the European in him. VERY practical. Including his contract. He knew what he brought to the table. Many of the F1 drivers are egocentric. As they should be! Every time they race their life is on the line. But he understands why people do this... he dropped everything to be a driver. He understands the outcasts, the rogue drivers... one of a kind.

You've got to respect a man so passionate about racing, and so tough both physically, and mentally that he crashed, and burned the shit out of himself. Then continued racing through the worst pain imaginable less than 2 months later! If your an F1 fan, or not you have to respect that.

Thats why i even consider F1 as a sport. When I was growing Up, my dad, brazilian, he was obsessive of F1, i hated It, since i couldnt watch my cartoons. But I grewd up. Then started to see the things my dad was saying, then I remembered that Alonso's Renault cap he gave me in '07... Nowadays i love F1. This Guy passed through some shit. Senna (the Idol in Brazil for decades, and the whole world, the same) also died doing his stuff and he knew the risks, and took every one of them, until his death.

1 and I do mean 1 problem... Nico was more upset about Lewis being more interesed in destroying a friendship for (fake) titles and didn't want to be a child to compete.. He tried and messed up, trying to play mind games with JB... JB owned him on and off track. Lewis couldn't win.. Lewis jumped and lucked in... "Why has @JensonButton unfollowed me on Twitter?" .... In public!!! (low class move) JB's reply.. "Mate, I never followed you to unfollow you!" (Boom. Job done.) Hamilton deleted the tweet and he's been deleting tweets ever since... Max V and Red Bull throughout last yr... At least 4 deletions that I know off. Merc's social media cover up jobs, is a full time job.. lolol Niki never had friends.. How can you ask someone about Karting mates, through to F1? Niki on everything else.. Sit up and listen... My only down vote of the whole series of vids..

An amazing interview because the interviewee, Lauda, actually answers all the questions. That is almost unheard of in this day and age. Its a shame that he has passed away as he was such a focused guy, straight, open and honest, with no frills. And of course one heck of a driver and a total winner.

I don't think it would have mattered, Rosberg would have blocked whichever way Hamilton decided to go, in fact at the moment Hamilton turned into the inside Rosberg was slowly moving across to the left, which is why Hamilton went on the inside.

I’m a Hamilton fan, but Nico retired because the man wanted to retire. Win a championship, content with the fact he accomplished a sought after feat. Not everybody needs “more, more, more.” Nico, world class driver, Lewis, world class driver.

The problem for Nico was Hamilton partied all week, rocked up saturday and sticks it on pole. Nico had to train hard and spend hours in the simulator to be even close. Another year of seriously hard work to fight a motivated Hamilton and not devote time to family was too much. Respect to Rosberg for winning a title but he was also helped by unreliability on the other side of the garage that might not happen the next year.

The truth told by nico himself, is that it took everything he had to win his title. He literally had nothing left to give & what makes Lewis so good is that he can perform at that 110% level continuously all season, season after season without battering an eyelid

Lewis managed to do EXACTLY what Alonso can't. Lewis left one team right before the brink of annihilation, to go to one that would have the most dominate 3-4 year stretch in history.

What courage? Sorry but are u dumb? Before the v6 were introduced everybody already knew Mercedes was going for it, everybody knew they were the favourites, there was clearly information in the air about Merceces V6 engine. Stop talking crap, Hamilton got informatiom before he decided, he knew Mercedes was going to rule. He is talented driver off course, but all these 3 championships he won, were mainly because of his car, everybody know that aswell. Just as Vettel wins, were because Redbull had a clearly superior car. Stop talking bullshit.

Everyone thinks a great driver is determined by what happens on track but its more than that. You have to have a good head for the bussiness aspect as well. Lewis is the total package. He's superb on track, and can make good bussiness decisions. Sure there was talk of Mercedes engines but it was still just hear-say at the time. His retirement in singapore while leading was the nail in the coffin for his time at McLaren. I truly beleive it was at that moment he could tell the team was starting to shift.

In this interview.. You can hear how much love Niki had for Lewis... Something stands out. He mentioned Lewis likes to enjoy himself. He likes to have a good time as well as race and Niki said YOU GOTTA GIVE HIM HIS FREEDOM... Lewis sounds alot like James Hunt in that regard... Which may explain why Niki had a soft spot for him.

Niki Lauda was a great mentor to Hamilton. His advice to join Mercedes-Benz was the best advice. Not only that, Mercedes-Benz got their first championship from No.44 Lewis Hamilton and he's still winning . . . I can understand McLaren's frustration.

Nico set out to win the title, he had an all time great in Hamilton driving the same car and he did it. Nico beat the quickest driver (currently) in the world and proved himself a worthy champion. I dont know how much people know about the focus and dedication it takes firstly to get to formula 1, but to be consistently at the top of the sport consumes all parts of your life, it requires such huge motivation that theres not much time or energy left for other things in life. I truly believe that Nico wouldnt be able to raise a family and continue challenging for titles, either one or the other (more likely both) parts of his life would have to be neglected in some way. To me it looks like he wants to be there for his wife and for his kids growing up. I respect and admire that 1000% and think people should applaud him. He will always be a champion and im guessing hes probably earnt enough so that he wont really need to work again. Good luck to him.

He achieved his goal and that was the main motivation. It also broke him - physically and mentally. And he didn’t want to do it again, he didn’t need to do it again. So bowed out gracefully. Some people may say he quit and he feared Lewis, and he probably did. But he still achieved his goal and dream and can now do what he wants to do and love his life and family..l 🤷‍♂️

I am privileged to have watched this interview. Such raw truth in the discussion about the Catalunya crash with Rosberg. I have to say, as a Hamilton fan, I was very mad about Rosberg driving my driver off of the track. But after hearing Niki Lauda blame Hamilton outright has made me apply a different scenario on the accident. I placed myself in Rosberg's shoe's. I wouldn't have done anything different. Hamilton went for it, Rosberg blocked, tragedy followed.

Oliver Watson not necessarily on purpose but he went for a gap and Prost didn’t leave him the room so they crashed although senna knew that gap was gonna close

I think that assessment of Lewis being at fault for causing the crash was correct. It was the 1st round and Lewis was too aggressive there. Rosberg had the right of way but he also drove his teammate into the grass. Lewis slid hit the wall span and came back slamming onto Rosberg's car. Team Mercedes out right at the 1st circuit. Telling Lewis separately why he did not attack Rosberg on the outside while the low power light was on is a sign that Niki Lauda favors Lewis.

His separate conversation with lewis later in ibiza about the lights flashing was very professional on niki’s part when he could’ve told him that at the teams debrief.
