Being the host that can act the fool in order to be funny enough to deliver laughs while at the same time teeing up Hamilton as the expert to deliver interesting facts likely requires *more* knowledge and intelligence than a straight forward blind interview. (I wonder is that was rehearsed? If not it's even more impressive.)
As how most good hosts do. They ask questions that even a curious child might have in mind so that the subject could be explained and simplified for viewers all ages to understand.
Not everyone has the gift of speaking well to an audience, even if they happen to be in the public eye. Have you seen other F1 racers in interviews? Some speak really fast and they are hard to understand, not to mention some of the things they say as well (Gotta have a healthy ego to compete). Lewis paces himself extremely well while explaining things, which helps those not familiar with the F1 world understand and engage with what he is saying, he is charming and patient. The man could make a career out of doing public speaking engagements when he leaves the sport.

People profoundly underestimate how physical motorsports are, they think the car is doing all the work and the driver is just turning a wheel and pressing some pedals. I enjoy taking inexperienced people in proper go karts for the first time, before the race they always say the same thing "only 8 minutes?", after the race they always say some variant of "now i understand why its only 8 minute stints."
I remember how stressful it is for me to play a fricking racing video game with the normal game pad and driving a formula whatever car on literally any track. Being this concentrated and reactive while also having to deal with extensive sweating and g-forces sounds incredibly brutal to me
I play grid Autosport on mobile and yeah it's not like a proper realistic SIM racer, but I fully understand just how tough it is to be fast like the pros, it is mentally tough! And to be fast whilst having to deal with the forces of the earth itself irl!? Jeez man, Motorsports is underappreciated just because it's not a ball sport.
I have never heard him speak. He was so professional. Never spoke down to the host or panel. Just spoke facts that IMHO, impressed them. Really looked good.

@tayhlordalton9596 Yes but the energy required to sustain those physical forces puts you at such a high caloric deficit that you begin eating your own cells. It's a common thing for endurance atheletes. You literally waste away. It's why they can't do it all year long or for more than a few hours a week. Youd die.
In 2019 F1 introduced an 80kg minimum weight limit for drivers, which includes their helmet, race suit and shoes. Yuki Tsunoda is the smallest driver at 5ft 2in and 54kg, so they have to add ballast near the seat. It prevents drivers from starving themselves and turning in to jockeys.

For the longest time when I was younger I always joked these guys weren't real athletes. Now that I'm older and I've done sim racing on the ps5 I completely walk that thought back. That shit is draining af and I'm doing it in the comfort of my home. These guys are dealing with elements and all the other hazards they face. They definitely have my respect .

I watched Grand Turismo and, at first, was wondering why all that exercise to race. Then, I realized you need a lot of core muscles and endurance to fight that g force.

You literally have to be a super athlete to compete at this level. Away from g-force when turning, they feel 5 g’s when braking, so it is literally constant g force on your body at every step. They also need powerful arms to constantly steer as well. What many don’t realize is that the brakes on an F1 car are not like your own road car with a servo that multiples the braking force from your input on the brake pedal. They don’t have this and have to have powerful legs too just to constantly brake hard every few seconds. A quote below from an expert, not my words. ‘On road cars, servo-assisted brake systems multiply the pressure you apply to the master cylinder but the regulations in Formula One demand that the braking force has to be generated by the driver alone. They need very strong legs to do this, but they do get some help from the violence of the braking manoeuvre itself.’
I race on my Xbox with my steering wheel. Even that’s hard, so I can’t imagine being in a car with all of those g’s at every turn. You gain respect when you start to take interest in racing games
@GI3BO I do know at least for xbox some of the tracks don't exist. One of the ones my group of sim racing buddies are chatting about doing is road America. It's not in AC or ACC but I heard it's in Forza. Could at least learn the track layout before racing at the sim. Otherwise, yeah AC and ACC are superior from what I have heard.
Actual g-forces upwards of 4.5 lateral g's. That means his head weighs about 45 pounds and it's literally trying to be ripped off his shoulders. Normal person neck would break at a track like Silverstone from a single corner at speed.

Fun Fact: Taran Butler, One of the best/if not THE BEST, firearms instructors on the planet. Was asked who was the best he had ever worked with, and without hesitation he said, Lewis Hamilton was the best he had ever seen, a complete natural that was instantly firing at a world champion/competition level (makes perfect sense given the hand/eye coordination needed to drive like/what he does). When he asked Lewis if he had previously shot beforeand Lewis said he had never shot before....maybe once as a kid with his father/grandfather, he said. Taran was completely 🤯! After last year in Qatar and Singapore, actually there was something added for this year's car that funcions as an "AC", you will find new very small holes in the front of the car where air goes in and is supposed to cool down the driver a bit
Maybe in very extreme circumstances like the 2 you mention but generally the teams would close that up because it impacts the aero efficiency. The teams spend vast resources trying to eek out fractions worth of efficiency so it'd have to be a legit safety concern to take that hit.

@@braveheart4603 - No. It's a forced air design, which takes advantage of the air that is already flowing against the car. What it does is just move that air in from the front to the driver, then out to the back. The biggest issue is designing something that does not violate the rules of F1, because air passing through be seen as giving the car an aerodynamic advantage.
@@hazeleyedsoul3282 That's what I would have suspected too, some kind of cooled water system that plugs into the car and pumps through tubes on their suit. They already exist and are used in some types of racing. Weight shouldn't really be an issue because I imagine such a system would be standardized so each team would have to work around the same standard so it would be fair and equitable. The one thing I can think that would stop it is there's usually a small reservoir of water which under the G forces seen in F1 could become very difficult to manage. For example if the pump breaks those suits become insulating suits real quick and exacerbate the issue, and with the G forces involved it's likely that the pump could end up running dry.
I fly planes with no A/C in Florida, I get what it's like. Also the G-Force situation he was describing we also deal with it's all Newton's 3rd Law which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So a High-G turn right imparts a left turning tendency.
Since the first time I heard Lewis speak, I have had a lot of respect and love for him. He is so incredibly polite and nice, no drama, he deserves all good that comes his way!

Also the AC would take power from the engine (either through an alternator / CSD unit or in part through a forced air intake system, or both), reducing power even more.
Lewis is amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting him 6 years ago and being such a super champion and being so down to earth and nice was an inspiration.
It's insane to me that they are so consistent in lap times that 3/10s of a second is even a factor. This just makes me realize as a casual sim racer I'm not even CLOSE to their level of driving
Im reminded of an interview with someone (i forget who) that was granted the experience of driving an F1 car. Pretty sure it was an automotive journalist or something...so definitely someone with some performance driving experience. He was talking about trying to brake late and hit it hard to get the full experience. When he hit the brakes, he said his head went flying forward and he could barely hold himself in place and, when reaching the pits, was congratulated for reaching 30% brake application.😂

Yup. It's due to the enormous heat inside the driver capsule and the F1 cars tend to go crazy in temperature and sometimes combine with the weather as well. F1 racers are required to maintain enough wait to not lose unnecessary seconds and also don't go unconscious while racing.

Well, yes and no. Even if the body isn't moving, it doesn't mean the muscles aren't working. It's called isometric or static exercising. I encourage you to watch an F1 driver work out just their neck to get an idea
There SHOULD be ac in those. FIA could just mandate it and standardize it. Done. But it would make drivers more comfortable and we all know their track record when it comes to driver safety/comfort
Why would they need ac, way to bulky and unnecessary it’s an extreme sport no race car would have it, like saying marathon runners should have roller skates cause it’ll be easier 😂

He didn't say anything that came off sesquipedalian really? He spoke in a very clear and concise way that even a child could understand. Plus he wasn't speaking about anything technical, but rather alluding to how it can in fact get really technical.
There is more to it than that. If a driver is uncomfortable that takes away from his ability to perform at maximum. All racing teams pay great attention to their driver's comfort, it is vital. I used to do that and our driver got good results.
Lewis himself is one of the most ignorant people out there: lecturing us all about how we should live when he has an absolutely massive carbon footprint. Lewis wines about racism, yet he drives for Mercedes. I supported him when he drove for team Braun alongside Button but now I can't stand the woke clown.

Dunno if this an urban myth, but rumor has it many drivers in the past due to heavy G-Force, they were losing colors regarding the eye sight thus momentarily they were seeing things B&W.
I do some desert racing on dirt bikes. Fully hydrated, I've lost 10-15 pounds of weight in one 2 hour training session. People don't realize how grueling motorsports can be at all levels
