Yeah. Well at least I have the vortex in my garage now. This was a much needed upgrade since both of the Whelens where giving the city a lot of trouble.
@@OWS_Crazy1 bro I really want one man. I grew up near that siren for over 7 years man. I wanted to be th first young siren enthusiast to own a Whelen Vortex. Trust me man, I’m NOT a siren kiddie.. I wanna but it in my garage and keep it for display
Yeah it’s just an opportunity I couldn’t let down. This was the closest siren to my house and Ive known about this siren since about 2008. I even went to the school right next to it, and got to see it in action every first Wednesday.
Lewisville will be replacing the rest of their whelens probably within the next 1 or 2 years, I’ll let you know if there is anything available by then.
Overall I’d say 2001s are just a LOT more reliable than Whelens. Obviously electronic sirens have some advantages over electro-mechanical sirens, such as voice control, but there’s always blown drivers and amps that need to be replaced which often costs a lot more to repair compared to mechanical sirens. Besides, Lewisville really only had 2 units that were capable of the voice feature.
2001s are more expensive than most whelens. But in the long run, 2001s will be the better option since not much maintenance will have to be done on them. Plus the 2001s are a LOT louder lol.
@@OWS_Crazy1 what's your opinion on Rowlett replacing T-128s with Whelens, do you think the Whelens will be more expensive than the 50,000 needed to keep the old system functional?
Whatever the city thinks is good enough for them. I’d say the 128s were certainly getting up there in age. I don’t really have an opinion on the exact numbers since I am not exactly a siren worker myself.
@@OWS_Crazy1 true, T-128s as old as Rowletts typically get replaced when maintaining them becomes expensive. Richardson replaced theirs since they became a liability to maintain.
