I am suspected of having LBD I have Parkinson's and apathy has hung over me for a good 8 yrs I would like to know how or why would this cause early admission to a care facility and to be an earlier cause of mortality? I'm always trying to learn and understand what this disease is
Apathy has been one of the more significant obstacles in caring for my mother who has LBD(PDD). Hard to say if it'd be any worse were she not taking both donepezil and memantine. I frequently suggest interventions and activities that should help her feel better and improve quality of life, but she has no motivation to do even the simplest things that could make a difference. As her caregiver, it's incredibly frustrating and I have to keep reminding myself that it's the disease that's calling the shots, not her. I tried encouraging her the paint again (she used to be a painter/art teacher), but that didn't spark any interest whatsoever. All she does is watch tv, read magazines, and sleep. I can't think of anything more I haven't already tried, so I guess this is just the way it's going to be. Very, very frustrating and unfortunate.
