"We're gettin rid of them tho... uh huh..." LMAO. Also, FYI: UV stabilized lexan (aka polycarbonate) is what you want unless it's track-only and/or won't spend much time in the sun. If you are gonna daily it spend even more for the scratch resist and uv stable version. That said, even the "cheap" polycarbonate will last for years. Velcro seriously rocks, works at over 150mph if done well. The adhesive (or paint you stuck it to) will fail before the hook and loop fastners! I have never screw-mounted it, but was told to use washers, with rubber/felt/schmoo underneath, and over-size the holes for the expansion so it does not crack. It's more of a problem the larger the window. Great job with the black border paint, thats how to make it look pro. Great how-to, keep up the great content!
Dude, awesome videos. Another thing that can be done after cleaning up the edges is with a blow torch glass up the white foggy look thats left after sending. You lighty pass the torch over the edge and it kinda melts the lexan just a bit and hardens like glass. Ive done it before with lexan.. And yep i learned it on RU-vid... Not sure if it would even matter but food for thought.
Beautiful job very well done wow that's was up you are amazing with your build God bless ya all and family and friends please stay safe out there with the crazy drivers out there
fawk bro this is one of best fawking work! thanks for doing the diy video of lexan windows.. can you do the doors and rear on the hatch too? what thickness was those rear lexan windows?
Honestly there is no better preparation than having the CORRECT TOOLS for the SPECIFIC JOB! Harbor freight is your friend! don't let some of these dipshits scare you away from harbor freight for the price you can't beat their tools! Don't get me wrong some of their shit is mediocre but most of it cannot be beat for the price and the job you're using each specific tool for! Great video dude you're a good teacher (explaining)🙏
just a suggested topic update this was good However No one or no body talks about the following Polycarbonate thickness their are several choices from .093 sheet thickness going upwards Home depot and lowes have the similar thickness stocks and sizes Has any one used a cut to size polycarbonate dealer like Curbell? or others am thinking 1/8 thickness is better? better to use on rear hatchback vehicles if you paint the polycarbonate black to match oem will industrial velcro still work??
You should look into damplifier Butyl Sealant Tape it would help with sealing the window also with dampening sound and vibration you also retain being able to remove the window if you wanted too
Best walkthrough on YT. Thanks. I am going to turn my '65 Buick Riviera door windows into Polycarbonate one piece windows instead of wing windows and square windows. They are pretty much just flat glass with no curve. What thickness would you recommend?
Lexan has a way higher UV and impact resistance. I tried (for science) and within a few months it cracked, few weeks after I could snap it with two fingers
Damn good job bro ! You can heat them to make the same shape and Contour around the oem windows with a stove 250 Degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes lay the heated lexan over the window Allowed to cool then, boom you have the same Contour in the material same as stock almost. Check out WJP004 he’s an Australian old guy who is a car fabricator amazing way to learn on fabrication. He has a video of making a eg hatch into a hill climbing beast. One piece hood ext check him out. #OGDBFAM
Hey what's up man I'm Raymond I'm from Houston Texas I like the way you make those windows I don't have a steady hand to make them would you make me some and I'll pay the shipping and I'll pay you for making them I have a EG hatch as well
Just a rough guess but if he's using 1/8" lexan compared to glass I'd probably guess a good 8-10lbs on the smaller windows and maybe 25lbs or so for the front and back windows and say 12lbs for the bigger front windows if done
I aint gunna get an answer here: how the hell do I cut the lexan to the right size if I don't have a window template to work with cuz some idiot dropped it. I don't trust myself to just free ball it and hope it fits inside all perfect
