This video makes no sense. So which one is better?

Hi, it's the last one - "reference sound setting" 1:11, because it has the closest tracking of target frequency curve presented on 0:28 (dotted line on the graphs with measurements). I will soon prepare a video with a deeper explanation of the evaluation. Also feel free to suggest improvements for my next videos.

@@CarAcoustics Thanks. Just tried this on my 2024 ES350 which should have the same sound system and this sounds terrible. Are the sound systems the same? What year ES300h was this?

If your car is equipped with Mark Levinson system then it should be the same - I've checked EU and US specs and they both declare 1800W 17 speakers system. I made quite a few measurements and I am pretty sure that the result is scientifically right. However, there are different aspects that may make the sound unbearable for you e.g. 1. The mentioned target curve is based on Harman research and an average of what the population like in sound, but other people have different hearing and also taste in sound so it may not work for everyone. It may also be that you are used to different setting and this new one is quite a shock for your brain, giving it a go for a week and then coming back to what you had before is a nice experiment. 2. Different music genres sometimes need different calibration. 3. The system in your car might haven't been "burned in" yet (new speakers components are stiff and need some time to reach proper spec). I found it in tested car that it sounded bad at first and improved in time. 4. ... Summarizing - many aspects, a lot of room for self checking :)

@@CarAcoustics I do have the Mark Levinson. I tried your settings, again, this morning. It isn't just that I might not like the intricacies of the setting. It sounds absolutely horrible. Something is different or wrong. What volume level are you using?

I am normalizing the measurements to ~85 dB (C) SPL. I am unable to tell you which VOLUME value it was as I have no access to the car currently. You can check the volume with one of smartphone app SPL meters, they should be good enough for that purpose. If you want to verify if your system is working as the one in my test car, you can try measuring on your own - home cinema AVR auto calibration systems mic and laptop with REW software would work. Also any car audio shop nearby should be able to measure for you.
