I appreciate you being strait about not falling into the gear trap . So many youtubers are building rock crawlers ,and calling them overland vehicles . I am building out a Ford Maverick to be a soft road overland rig . Your last video talked me out of getting a swing out tire carrier and installing a double battery system . So much of what we do is about looking the part and not doing the part . Thanks

It's very true and I have absolutely fallen into that trap, like many others. Some items look good, but at the end of the day can cost you more than what they're worth. Thanks for the comment!

Love the real talk on keeping this a practical build, especially having the perspective of seeing the other side of it and going overboard on a build… I went overboard on my Tacoma build, and its amazing how quickly you get wrapped up in messing around with the truck itself, not to mention the $ spent, and not actually using it… this is exactly my plan for my next DD, mildly built GX460 with an emphasis on functionality, practicality, and not going over the top… really enjoying your content

Much appreciated! I would rather spend more time exploring and less time tinkering with all the little things that I think I need on the trail. Good luck on the next rig build!

With owning my Ford for over 18 years and 267K miles my eyes were set on none other then a GX470 to build .. there is one out there with a overland package or the like that really the one to get. I was looking when for some reason I went the complete total opposite build and did up the Crosstrek Sport. I realized that a rig that was light and nimble had some real merits. One thing that I remember is the GX 470 was not good on fuel mileage. Coming back from Moab a few weeks ago I was getting 30 mpg with the Trek .. that range is nice when your in remote Death Valley or the like. 🤠

Those are very good points! Definitely not going to be a gas efficient vehicle, but trading off some of that mileage for capability is something I was willing to do. Thanks for your useful comments, they always bring good information into the conversation.

That's some insightful thinking.. you're so right about people thinking they need all the crap that they see the RU-vidr crowd have which most of it come free to them through sponsors. So that whole idea of.. "look at me.. and look what I just 'bought' is totally fake. I almost always travel alone on my 80 series and taking out the back seats really adds a ton of space.

It's definitely become a status symbol to have the most expensive gear. Hopefully this reaches people before they get sucked into the trap and they realize that they don't need everything they see. I really appreciate your comment!

Simply brilliant! Thanks so much for saying exactly things that I was double guessing as am just about starting my journey with my own very GX460 overlanding build. Love your emphasis (based on your experience) staying minimalist, focusing on must haves and not burning up cash on gear which will not be used and lead to more fuel being burnt, literally! Great share, will be picking off many an ideas from your build. Thanks much, stay safe.

appreciate the comment and glad it could be helpful! Check adventurerigshop.com as you start your build and send them an email when you have an idea of what you're looking for. I'm sure they would be willing to offer a discount!

Hi there. Love your build. I’m trying to go a similar simpler route like you. Lots of other RU-vidrs are a little too wild and crazy builds for my wallet. Haha. I’m just curious about the fridge system. I just bought a dometic cfx3 dual zone 75 and it looks identical to yours with the two opening lids but your link is for a 55 liter with only one door. So I guess I’m just try to confirm that you actually have the 75 so I can make sure it will fit the dobinsons drawer system because I really like their design. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work and keep these GX 460 videos coming.

Sorry for the error in the link! Yes, I have the 75 dual zone just like you mentioned. The fridge sits perfectly on the Dobinson drawer system and if you purchase directly from adventure rig shop I can more than likely get you a decent discount. Shoot me a message on Instagram and I can send you some pics of the finished product if you would like.

I really enjoy your channel, Thanks for sharing your experience and ideas. I am a little confused about one thing in this video. In calling out the fridge spec, you refer to it as the "CFX 55DZ" but the link in description takes you to the CFX3-IM model, "IM" meaning "ice maker." It's my understanding "DZ" refers to dual-zone refrigerators which, as far as I can tell, only come in the larger 75DZ and 95DZ models. In watching the video, it appears to be a rather large fridge, so I'm assuming it's either the CFX3 95DZ or the CFX3 75DZ...?
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh Год назад
Just checked the link and I put the wrong one. I do have the 55DZ, not IM model. It looks pretty big because it is pretty big. Anything bigger than the 55 wouldn't fit on my drawer system. Thanks for pointing that out!

I see a huge flaw with your build. If your partner is short, she will need an elevator to get in to that refrigerator.

She handles it pretty well, luckily she't not short.
