Lexus GX460 Takes on the Cliffhanger 2.0 Extreme Off-Road Review 

Mad props to the owner for taking his luxury SUV onto some real off-road terrain.

I love my GX. It’s always interesting to see the faces of folks when you take one off-road. I have 275/65/18 Ridge Grapplers on, but otherwise stock. Need to look into his set up.

Well I never thought I'd see a luxury SUV in the hands of an off-road enthusiast! Good for the owner that bought a Lexus but doesn't baby it, actually put those horses and technology to work!!! Right on!!!

This video helped me make the choice on buying my 2017 gx460.

Correction: Nissan Patrol is no longer on the European market (for several years now). Prado's competitors are Nissan Pathfinder and Mitsubishi Pajero!

You can buy the controls and ECU for the MTS and crawl control and retrofit it to any GX460 by the way, including the pre-facelift 2010-2013 models.

Proof that even a Toyota that when driven properly and using its features, properly, the way they should be, can make easy work of tough terrain.

Awesome rig. My 2012 LEXI with a 3" lift on 33's performs great. I've done Bulldog Canyon in Phoenix and all of Broken Arrow trail in Sedona. I plan on taking her to Colorado later this year to do Imogene and Black Bear Pass. 🤞

You can take LOCKERS out of a 2010 FJ (newer) and put thosse in the GX-- they're a DIRECT BOLT IN.. (I will do that with whatever I get.. )

Impressive for a late model rig. You did a video on the V-8 series 80 conversion but nothing to put it to work that I've found. I recently purchased a 97 Land Cruiser with locking differentials and leaning towards a LQ-9 with 6L80E transplant. I see lots of videos from Australia but would like to see you guys find a modified series 80 and put it to work. I'm working overseas so I won't be able to make the engine swap for sometime to come but also considering the stock 4.5L reworked with a turbo system. I do need to reseal the engine as it leaks a bit of oil. Standard stuff, go through the diffs, t case etc and rebuild those units. Tough hardware for sure, just want to rejuvenate things after 180,000 road miles.

That is why I purchased a 2012. It looks better and the angles are more off road.

This Lexus is badass. Will easily last as long as you want to own it for.

Skid plates would be a big help too.

Correction at 4:20: this is one class smaller than Patrol because patrol is even bigger than its older brother, the Land Cruiser and Lexus LX570. Still, love this car and wish i could afford one.

.... not just Europe concerning the Prado nameplate. Every other world market gets it as the Land Cruiser Prado and other bigger one is usually called the Land Cruiser V8. Then let's not forget the Land Cruiser 70 Series which is still in production and is a direct competitor for a Mercedes G Wagon and the now discontinued (but still available) Land Rover Defender.

I didn't realize that the GX460 was different from the LX570. I thought the GX was the LX with a different motor. I know the name Prado as a legendary off-roader from overseas (I live in the US)

Capable vehicle for sure but the style especially the front end has way too much going on design wise.

Wow nice ride it's the best of both worlds as a weekend off roader and DD luxury.

My LX450 with factory lockers (and other assorted aftermarket goodies including Slee) really leave many to scratch their heads. Couple of guys have thought I somehow grafted the L emblem onto the grill. '97 was the last of the true Land Cruisers that the US got. Sad times.

nice to see some battledamage. a few scratches here and there is fine as long as there is no panel damage.

This just makes a buying decision harder. Because he didn't start with the vehicle most people would start with if they were more interested in off-road prowess meaning the air suspension vehicle. For all the money he put into it he has basically matched what a Land Rover has for ground clearance stock... I don't know it's just confusing!

Damn he isn't picking his line at all. If I spent 50k on that rig I would be going about half that speed and pick a nicer line. I would also remove those side steps and put some rocksliders with a side step on that thing immediately as a form of insurance.

Not everywhere known in EU as Prado , just LC here ... & also " in EU it would compete with the Nissan Patrol " , the patrol hasn't been sold in most EU countries for how long now ? The only comparison vehicle would be the Mitsubishi Pajero ...

I wish Toyota/Lexus never get rid of the boxy design on the GX and make it look like the new Highlander etc. Not bashing on the Highlander, it's a great car. But for something that has the capability of off roading, i think it should look a bit more boxy instead of completely curvy just like any other sedan cars and city SUVs. Car manufactures designs these days are like all squashing their heads against each other in order to be ahead of others. Like the look of cars just change way too fast that even a new design released a couple of years ago may look dated, which i think is kinda unnecessary....

The tires used and airing down to 22psi, made it look way too easy.

I applaud this guy for what he's done with the GX but there's no way I'd take this over a modded 4Runner. Yeah it's got a V8 but the ground clearance and approach angles on this thing are awful.

took my bone stock 2004 discovery offroad yesterday and went over much more difficult terrain, much more muddy and a lot more steep hills just didn't have the rocks

I'm interested in this-- I was AVOIDING looking at the 460s because I had the MISTAKEN idea that the 460s had a LIFT up back and drop down tailgate-- which I HATE....but it was the LX i was thinking about- and that I have NO interest in. I am looking at newer 460s now-- due simply to the fact that a GOOD 470 is getting VERY hard to find. they are all pretty good- but it's hard to find one without rust underneath... I want to modify mine with lots of things-- so don't want rust to work with. THANKS FOR YOUR WONDERFUL VIDEOS- I always get such GOOD info from your videos.. instead of a lot of BS fluff..

I have my eyes on a low mileage gx 460. The only thing is it won't fit in the garage the way it is now. I am not going to have something like this sit outside. Way too expensive!
