So I did this! and I did what you did on my first try, but the second time I used a sponge paint brush for application of the flex seal. SOO much better!
If you really take the time to prep the surface it should work better, I would dry dex and sand maybe 3 or 4 times, Until you can close your eyes and run your finger across the surface and have it feel 100 percent smooth, Then your paint or coating will finish smooth.. It's all about the prep
mine is starting to crack on the panels, I remember it happened in two hours, that day it was very hot and when I left the gym it was too late. I advise for those who do not yet have a problem, to clean well with a specific plastic skai product and then anti-UV protection or with a special ceramic coating for plastic and even leather. otherwise if it's too late like me, I advise you to fill the cracks and either dismantle the panel and cover it with rolls of adhesive skai. it's very clean. or you can dismantle the black part completely (there is a tutorial video) and cover with leather or skai fabric, after filling the holes for invisible work. It helps your aerosol, but for my taste too tarry. in this case a good job with adhesive rollers will be impeccable.
Your suggestion sound like it would probably produce a cleaner finished product! With a bit more care, my method could certainly have been improved as well. Thanks for watching and sharing!
I used 2 cans and yes dry dex is used for walls so how it’ll hold up long term is TBD really depending on how extreme the weather conditions are where you live.
Considering this video was made about a year back would you say this solution has held the test of time in your honest experience or would you suggest otherwise or perhaps do some things differently?
I used “Dry Dex” to fill in the cracks (I put a link to it from Lowes below). And I planned to cover the dash but I wasn’t sure how it would impact the operation of the Passenger Side AirBag, so I held off on it.
